After the initial release of Okami on PS2, Capcom decided to remove Clover's credits from the game on each release after it. @Brupcat Bullet Witch is awful and I love it so much. I'd say WinBack 2 was a worse Cavia game by virtue of it being completely bland and uninteresting, Bullet Witch at least had gusto and a million interesting bad decisions during development.
Cavia's games were known to have mediocre gameplay, including Bulletwitch, Drakengard and Nier. Nier's gameplay only improved with Automata; back then people praised Nier's story, characters, music, and voice work, but shat on the gameplay, graphics, and visuals. It was Automata that nailed it in every aspect, thanks to Platinum's involvement. It would also be the last game Cavia would ever make
Drakengard’s gameplay was pretty clunky but I’ve honestly never understood the complaints about how the original Nier plays. I see why’d it be disappointing if you played Automata first, but as it’s own thing I never found the gameplay frustrating even thought it was slower and less refined. It didn’t feel like I was actively struggling with the controls or anything, and dodging and hitting stuff was satisfying enough. I thought it really succeeded at what it was trying to be, an action-adventure with a bit more focus on the adventure rather frenetic action. Except for having to play the same few hours 4 times to get all 4 endings. That was terrible the third and fourth times around.
