I found this today featured on Steady, Dan Rather's newsletter with his comment: “Auld Lang Syne” has been a tradition and a favorite for decades. I’ve heard dozens of versions over the years, but I don’t think I’ve ever found one this beautiful. It’s certainly a reason to smile. The Choral Scholars of University College Dublin chamber choir performance is pure enchantment.
My grandmother passed away last December. She was not Scotish herself, but her granddaughter (me) was born in Scotland and she had held an affinity with it ever since. She wanted Scotish music for her service, but due to the service-providers we couldn't. Her ashes will be scattered tomorrow, at the place where she was most happy. I won't be able to be there, but I suggested to my family to play a nice version of Auld Lang Syne. My dad asked me if I could find a nice and appropriate version. This rendition made me cry. It is gorgeous. Thank you for making me feel I could be part of her send off.
Much love to you and your family... may all of you find peace. Please cherish her memories and pass them on for the rest of your life, so she will never be forgotten. My dad died two years ago and I am trying the same. I love you all :-*
They aren’t Scottish, but The Elders have a song called “Men of Erin”. Bagpipes are the main instrument and it brings a tear to my eye so much I can hardly bare to sing to it. Beautiful song.
Remember your friends, and loved ones. Time passes so very quickly and we are here for just a short time. God bless you and help you find your way to Him.
Thank you young folks for this lovely rendition! I lost my wife of forty years. I listen to this to help me understand that it’s not just my best girl that leaves this world but all of us. However with out her I must admit I’m lost. We met in high school so 90% of my time on earth was spent with my best girl. 😊
My brother lost his battle with depression on May 18th, 2021. This song is incredibly hard to listen to, but it reminds me to not forget the memories. He won’t be with us on Earth for 2022 but he will in spirit, and I will never forget how awesome he was. He only lived to be 32 but I treasure every year I had with him.
I am so so sorry for your loss. I hope he's in a better place now free of pain, and may he continue to live forever in your heart and the hearts of all the people who knew and loved him ❤️❤️🙏🙏
Sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences to you and your family. He lives on in your heart, and you will treasure all the memories you had with him.
I’m so sorry for your loss may your brother rest in peace this is such a sad song I don’t know why I feel sad when it’s played on NYE. My cousin is in a hospice right now and we are waiting for God to take her, what a tough year for a lot of us. May 2022 be better.
After this song I decided to live this life, to be true to myself, to my ideals and values, to my goals and my mission. I am truly grateful to this world for fact that I can enjoy life in it, I am grateful for every day

The end of 2023 marked the end of the first full calendar year without my son's presence in this earthly world. When the clock struck midnight, I stood on the walkway in front of my house under the giant old maple trees, and listened to this play quietly as revelers throughout the valley set off fireworks in the distance, and a soft, light snow began to fall.

A close, long time friend just died, suddenly. I had the urge to listen to this beautiful song, and for the first time, I really cried. I’m far from being Scottish, but I want this music played at my memorial, whenever it is.
This is my favourite song-even since I was a kid, I have said I would like this sung at my funeral. This is the most beautiful version I have ever heard, it moved me to tears. Aside from Covid, this year has been the worst year of my life, after my partner of 15 years left me, and I’m stranded overseas in the US (I am from the UK) and can’t travel home because of Covid. It’s been so hard and lonely. But this, this right here, moved me to tears and gave me some peace during an awful period in my life. Thank you.
I have not Scottish family that I know of, but 2yr ago I lost my sister at 26yr old and always listen to this and for what ever reason gets me everytime . this songs digs deep in your mind and brings things back to life ..... thank you
I remember watching this few years before. Things for me has changed for the better definitely. I hope 2024 will be better for me and for everyone else
Happy New Years 😁 I keep crying from sheer pride when I hear y'all sing, but... I'm not Irish. I don't know what kind of witchery y'all got going on but honestly, the world needs more of this right now 🙏
I'd call that perfection. And as so often experienced, Desmond Earley's arrangement for the UCD Choral Scholars is of another world, and this performance by each and all of the singers beakons our hearts to join them in that very place. Trip to the Emerald Isle anyone? Wonderful indeed. Thank you.
I've been listening to this a lot too... My adoptive father, Darrell and my ma's brother, Richard both passed away recently and this has been kinda my go to when I hit the low - lows.
When I hear their voices and look at their faces, the quote from Hamlet came to mind: What piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how infinite in faculties, in form and moving, how express and admirable in action, how like an angel in apprehension, how like a god!
Can’t stop crying. This song has always touched my heart. It’s happy and melancholy. Reflective and pensive. So much hope lies within it all. It also has the feeling of resolution & closure. 🥹🫂
@deblosey811 Thankyou. You are right, albeit, I soon discovered it was because of heritage. My Homeland, and how it had been destroyed. 2024 will be a revival year.
This song is synonymous with New Year's celebrations but this particular rendition, to me at least, sounds heavenly & ethereal. It's what I would imagine a choir of angels would sound like.
The finnish national broadcasting company YLE chose this version of this song to honour the memory of Her Majesty. I am glad for this, as I discovered this beautiful choir.
I've listened to this song almost every years for over 6 decades, and this is one, of not THE most beautiful version that I've heard. The beauty of the music supports the feelings of hope and happiness for a new and better year! Thank you for sharing!
This has to be the most incredibly moving & most spectacular song I have ever heard in my entire 63 years of life! I have tears pouring down my cheeks . . . I feel like I’ve entered a magnificent cathedral & this stunningly beautiful chorus of angels was waiting to greet me. Thank you for such a timeless piece of musical perfection. 🙏🙏😇❤️
I will never get tired of listening to this song, once, twice or ten times in a row. The interpretation of this choir is unique, divine and deeply moving. Un immense merci depuis la France.

Now, as the tradition is with all the previous songs, its time ti re-listen this for about a thousand times.
indeed!
Same! :)
😆😆🤣😄 same.
Amen.
I'm joining!
Where on earth did he find the strength to sing this on his brothers funeral??? That baffles me every time.
Beautiful! The ending was stunning!
My father passed away on New Year's Eve 2016 so this song brings us so many emotions for me. This was perfect. This sounds like Heaven.
May he rest in peace

A heartfelt New Year in harmony as one. "Take a cup of kindness..."
A small drop of brightness in a world that’s very dark at the moment. My heart thanks you and so do my ears.
A close, long time friend just died, suddenly. I had the urge to listen to this beautiful song, and for the first time, I really cried. I’m far from being Scottish, but I want this music played at my memorial, whenever it is.
Absolutely love the version. Am sharing with my family. Happy New Year and God Bless all of you today and always.
Like a choir of angels. Beautiful
I might be a 19 year hard rock fan but this is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard
I’m a 21 year old hardcore raver but this is still epically world class

in 30 years you people will still be in the comments saying "omg guys I'm only 50 but I like classical music, I was born in the wrong generation"
@imperialofficer6185 not saying I was born in the wrong generation, I just think this song is beautiful
Thank you.
@@laurasenz I'm 14 and I thought the exact same thing about the funeral. 😅
Hi Josh D, will keep you and your partner in my prayers when praying the Rosary.
find your strength back, Bro. Praying with you right now. email me if you can kcym2012@gmail.com. Much love, Bro.
@Josh D. Just remember, the lowest ebb is the turn of the tide. Best wishes sending across the waves from Ireland.
Superb! I never knew that there were so many verses. Very well and tastefully performed.
This poem always spoke to me. God Bless and happy New Year!
Marvellous!
감사합니다.
It's December 31st 2022 here in New Zealand with only 2 hours left until the New Year, thank you for making it to 2023 and may God bless you all
0:53 what a beautiful and pure voice. I still have goose bumps
Yes
We call this song "hotaru-no-hikari" in Japanese.
This song remind me of a graduation ceremony or commencement.
They move me extraordinarily.
What does "hotaru" mean?
@@martaleszkiewicz5115 Hotaru is a firefly and hikari is a glow in Japanese. Namely, hotaru no hikari means fireflies' glow.
Oooooh that is fantastic. The playful flickering of firelight to hold memories but no current heat. Thank you for the metaphor.
The Japanese supermarket uses this song to close their store 😂
Naruto opening..?
Happy New Years 😁 I keep crying from sheer pride when I hear y'all sing, but... I'm not Irish. I don't know what kind of witchery y'all got going on but honestly, the world needs more of this right now 🙏
lovely... charming performance that strikes a chord in my heart...
No wonder there's not a single dislike. Flawless arrangement, flawless performace. Flawless music. And sympathetic people there.
I'd call that perfection. And as so often experienced, Desmond Earley's arrangement for the UCD Choral Scholars is of another world, and this performance by each and all of the singers beakons our hearts to join them in that very place. Trip to the Emerald Isle anyone? Wonderful indeed. Thank you.
This version is in fact perfection Mr. Cliburn. Happy Holidays…
So good I'm listening to this twice, back to back, in June.
how does June feel about that?
I see a pattern forming 👀
Same here.
Half New Years day is on July 1st and half Christmas is on June 25th so no problem at all.
I've been listening to this a lot too...
My adoptive father, Darrell and my ma's brother, Richard both passed away recently and this has been kinda my go to when I hit the low - lows.
When I hear their voices and look at their faces, the quote from Hamlet came to mind:
What piece of work is a man, how noble in reason,
how infinite in faculties, in form and moving,
how express and admirable in action, how like an angel in apprehension,
how like a god!
Oh my god. Just absolutely gorgeous performance.
Can’t stop crying. This song has always touched my heart. It’s happy and melancholy. Reflective and pensive. So much hope lies within it all. It also has the feeling of resolution & closure. 🥹🫂
I don't think I have ever heard a more beautiful rendition of this song. VERY well done young ladies and gentlemen.
Many new faces, same wonderful sound.
My Grandparents used to play this. I still have no idea why almost 30 years later, I still break listening to this.. Beautifully beautiful..
Because you loved them. And love never forgets. It never fades. It never dies.
@deblosey811 Thankyou. You are right, albeit, I soon discovered it was because of heritage. My Homeland, and how it had been destroyed. 2024 will be a revival year.
Beautiful.
Hilarious.
Please do not ever delete this video, I'd like to watch and listen it in my whole life and after!
The opening is....ethereal in its beauty. I felt like I was in a cathedral and hearing the voices of angels.
What a beautiful set of young people. May they find God's Blessing and wonderful spouses and live wonderful lives.
I've listened to this song almost every years for over 6 decades, and this is one, of not THE most beautiful version that I've heard. The beauty of the music supports the feelings of hope and happiness for a new and better year! Thank you for sharing!
This IS the most beautiful version I've ever heard. I love choral music. Happy New Year.
Love it - simple, traditional, beautiful. Their voices move. No flash or over the top.
merry christmas to all in these difficult times
You too!!!!
😊 happy new year!
Happy New Year✨🎆
Yep my merry way Christmas it was a tough year so glad it’s 2021
And to You!
Brings me back to where I was a kid sitting in front of a warm fire place in the living room with Mom, Dad, and family during X-mas.
Angelic singing--lovely to see this group work to preserve their beautiful cultural heritage!
Moved my heart as a child, though I didn’t why. Know much older it means so much more and now I’m most oft moved to tears.❤️
very true
This has to be the most incredibly moving & most spectacular song I have ever heard in my entire 63 years of life! I have tears pouring down my cheeks . . . I feel like I’ve entered a magnificent cathedral & this stunningly beautiful chorus of angels was waiting to greet me. Thank you for such a timeless piece of musical perfection. 🙏🙏😇❤️
Thank you. You might like our upcoming project on James Joyce that will release on 20th September lnk.to/JamesJoyceChamberMusic
May everyone find pace this Holiday. God bless
UCD's choir is really awesome. Wonderful voices which make this version of Auld Lang Syne awesome.
Emocianonante, asi de simple.
Musical softness in these beautiful voices.
Incredible layering of harmonies, accents, and love the natural reverb of the room. keep up the great performances!
I will never get tired of listening to this song, once, twice or ten times in a row. The interpretation of this choir is unique, divine and deeply moving. Un immense merci depuis la France.
Wonderful! Such a hauntingly beautiful rendition, redolent of Celtic sweet melancholy, truly moves the heart.
Happy New year's!!!!!!!! 2024
This is a great tribute to my mother-in-law, who passed away on 12-22-23. She was Greek, but her son-in-law is mostly Irish, English and Scottish! I can Identify with this song!
Beautiful young people, beautiful voices. If I were one of their parents, this recording would be a lifelong treasure.
