- The Z Fold 5 has been in the lab for testing for just over 2 weeks. So you know what it's time for, the initial 2 week later review. The main sentiment is that Samsung left the device way to close to it's predecessor, and in some ways, that's true. But, the Z Fold 5 surprised me in more ways than one, get some snacks ready, this one's a movie!!!

There's plenty of room for texting on the Z Fold 5 cover screen and handy, too,
when in uncomfortable situations where unfolding the phone draws unwanted attention from unsavory characters.
I have the Z Fold 5 and can palm a basketball 🏀 without any difficulty and yet text my thoughts out using the front screen with ease.

Especially the take on preferencing one's opinions about technology and how it may not work or suit oneself vs just stating the entire product is crap. World has gotten toxic but having our preferences to technology shouldn't have to go down such negative stark routes.

The cover screen is perfect.. I have ZERO ISSUES and it makes perfect sense.if i wanted a big screen id rock my S23 Ultra all.the time.

The front screen is perfect for me BUT going from the cameras on the S22 Ultra to the Z Fold 5 cameras, that's my only disappointment. But I love the Fold 5 (besides the cameras).
While I agree and wish the cover screen was wider, it will make the inner screen ratio far worse. The Pixel Fold and Z Fold have similar size and aspect ratio inside, but these are probably the only 2 options for the cover screen. A wider front screen on the Z Fold or taller Pixel Fold would make a more square interior screen, which means even bigger black bars when watch videos and movies. I'm staying hopeful that Samsung comes up with the perfect cover screen and tweaks for the Fold 6! Good video
Yea that's a very good point. We're so focused on the cover screen that we're not even paying attention to what's going to happen on the inside screen. Good point!!!!!
It's a fold for a reason folks, the cover screen is not intended to be the main screen you do everything in. It's for quick tasks and basic tasks. UNFOLD YOUR FOLDABLE PHONE ... why buy it if you plan on using the cover screen more. I LOVE my Fold, it's my phone, tablet and PC. Literally replaced all my devices for me. Let's also not forget that practically NO ONE complained about the iPhones ridiculously small screens and keyboards.
To each their own, but I personally like using whichever screen I want in any scenario. Both screens should be just as comfortable to use. In the end it's subjective man, different strokes for different folks. If it means anything, love my z fold 5 and even replying to this comment on it 😂
I find having a more minimal case on my fold 4, that I can use either screen but use the inside screen way more.

Totally love the narrow cover screen! Swiping with my thumb is super comfortable and one handed operation feels great because there's more to hold onto when folded. I do have big hands.
Yeah, the S23 Ultra has been great for the times I was at Denver Zoo and Oakland Zoo. Absolute lifesaver. As good as the Pixel Fold is, it doesn't match up to a dedicated 10x zoom lens.
I just got my Zfold 5 last week and I love it. And I'm saying that as someone who's main phone is the OnePlus Open. I absolutely love that narrow cover display because it makes it way more comfortable to type one handed. As for the s-pen I kinda like it the way it is. It fits in the back of the case without making the case too bulky
I do wish they would put in a periscope lens and bigger sensors on all 3 lenses. But it's not a deal breaker for me if only because my OnePlus has such a good zoom lens.🤷
Periscopes are commonly used in submarines to see above the water surface while remaining submerged. A telescope is an optical instrument designed for magnifying and observing distant objects, especially celestial bodies like stars, planets, and galaxies.

I've had 3 Notes and I agree this will be the true replacement of the Note. Samsung just to find a way to put the s pen inside like the Note! and make the spen work in the cover screen for quick notes.

Definitely good battery life for your unit. I usually get aboit 4-5 hours pf SoT with my Fold 5. I usually got 6-9 with the S23 Ultra.

Thank you for this very honnest and accurate review! I agree! One point that I would add to the pro's: the hinge. It is very stable and stronger than the Fold 4. And the Fold 5 is also thinner and a little lighter than the Fold 4.
Yea I wish I could've squeezed that in. I had the infamous crunch sound with my fold 4 hinge every time I opened it and I hated it. It's so much better on the 5

Unless users are ok with having their devices thinker, I think the Fold pen will become a half and half telecoping pen to fid inside the bottom/top of the shell, OR maybe the back end of the hinge would allow for larger batteries in the shell to maintain capacity size, and internal componenets needed.
SPen I agree with, we have prototypes showing the SPen fitting in the thickness they currently have. I'm cool with how thick the phone is. Periscopes are a different story though. If thinner foldables are fitting them, Samsung should be fitting them as well
Im buying fold 4 instead fold 5 after z 5 come out.. due to no motion sensor.. samsung, remove it.. so i need that function able to swipe power button bring notifications windows down.. and yes, the price❤
Bought one 2 weeks ago , still don’t like the cover screen , when open I love it , lot lighter and thinner than the 3 model . Hope next series 6 will be the one , needs a wider cover screen also be good to be lighter and slightly thinner , then it would rock
Agree 100% cover screen is by no means a deal breaker, but I definitely want it to be slightly wider

Yea it almost ends up feeling like a cover screen rather than a whole other phone to me. Still can do what I need to on it though
Any wider the inside screen would be a square rather than rectangle that almost resembles a tablet.

Telecoping cameras on Folds are indeed showign up and I've seen more criticism of teh fold 5 not having it start to grow on comments of youtube review videos.
Yet nobody is talking of the zoom quality of these competitors nor what software options are tehre for Telecoping camers on foldables. Y? Is that not just as important to the debate?
I can't speak for everyone, but for me, digital is rarely, if ever better than optical. If I take a 5x pic on the Pixel Fold and the same 5x pic on the z fold 5, the Pixel is going to come out better. That doesn't necessarily mean the Fold 5's photo is bad though either. The way I see it if others at the same price point are doing, there's no reason, at least not that I can that Samsung can't do it. It's not like they've never worked with a 5x optical before, the Note 20 Ultra was 5x optical. I'd be cool with them just using that at this point
pixel fold owners are forced to use the outter screen more because of the big size.Which causes the inner screen 2 get use less.
great review, would you recommend someone owning a Fold4 to upgrade to the Fold5? I dont see much difference apart from the hinge design and the new processor to be fair.
Honestly no, I'd say wait as the 6 is slated to be a big upgrade. That's not too say there aren't things that I notice a different between the 4 and 5, I do. But for how much that upgrade will cost, sitting this one out makes sense
Fold 5 is a nice 2 yr upgrade. Samsung has gotten a bit content with the fold line.
Facts we definitely going to see competition next year with google and OnePlus entering the arena

Just making it wider takes care of every complaint I've heard. If it's wider, they can give a bigger cover, put in the SPen, add a periscope, maybe increase the battery capacity a bit.

Since the pixel fold doesn't have stylus, Samsung will still stay ahead of the competition even if it can't be used on the cover screen. But they need to make the screen wider, the extra space would also allow them to have room for bigger batteries inside. But the extra competition in the foldable will help in improvement. We already saw that with flip, that Samsung had to make the cover display for flip bigger once Motorola did it.
I switched from s22u to zfold5,I stayed on it for 30days,then I switched to s23u.why? First:durability,second: s-pen,third:cameras,4th:battery life.
Besides I'm regret now! Cuz I suppose I can accept all these lacks,instead:I would have form factor,multi tasking,stunning main screen.poor zfold!I miss you!

You can always make the keyboard bigger
Bigger doesn't always mean wider though. And the bigger you make it vertically it takes up more screen space

No simply put the cover screen could and should of been wider stop giving them reason.
In the end, it's preference. While I would prefer a wider cover screen, not everyone does and that perspective has to be look at the same as those who want a wider one.

It depends on your needs. Camera isn't the entire story. Some people need productivity or care about product consolidation far more than cameras. I'd also say cameras are about 90% the same as S23U from a quality perspective. Just missing the zoom. It's more than enough camera for most people, even tech enthusiasts
The target audience for this is not someone who wants the best cameras. I would recommend getting a different phone for that person. The foldable is about having the 2 in 1, phone plus tablet experience. Buying S23U & S9 tablet separately would be more expensive.
@fahimhoq3166 this is true, and just to add to the discussion the only people saying I want the best for my 1800 are people who aren't using these devices 😂 I did a blind camera comparison of the S22U and Fold 4 last year. Most people picked the Fold 4.
@@IkesTechTalk exactly there's more to camera than just having more mexa pixels. Besides professionals who needs the best images tend to take pictures with their digital camera rather than smartphone anyway.

Don’t have this phone but I may get it. I have the 13 mini, so I think I would prefer the one handed use of the cover screen. iOS is falling too far behind in features, imo.
