      Been in the Apple eco-system for years, I tried the Z fold 4, but it never became my daily mobile. Upgraded to Z fold 5 and loved it, its just lovely to hold.. Then...I tried the Google Pixel Fold, I sold the Z fold 5 and have stuck with the Pixel Fold, Is the Pixel fold perfect ? No, but it is really close. I now use it as my main mobile. With the 14 Pro Max now in a drawer.

    The Google Fold has the largest bezels I've ever seen on a device and doesn't even open flat. Also has the most visible crease by a long shot. Just watched it get obliterated by the Galaxy Fold in the speed tests too. The Galazy Fold is undeniably superior

    Went with the Samsung Fold. BUT, I couldn't disagree with you more about the cover display. I LOVE that it is narrow and I can do everything with one hand. I'm the sort of person, which no matter what phone I have, I always end up scrunching the keyboard into the bottom corner as much as I can anyway. So this phone is perfect for me. It's perfect for doing things quickly and because of the smaller size, I don't end up wasting more time than I need to because it's too small to suck me in to something. If I want to waste time on the phone, it's because I made a conscious choice to open the big screen and spend time doing whatever. Not because my phone buzzed so I pulled it out to look at it, and then lost half an hour on social media. Samsung, if you're reading this never change it. My only complaint about the Fold is that I think it is still just a tad too thick when folded. Yes it's narrow so that helps, but it's still a huge bulge poking out of my pants!

      I'm swapping today and I'm stoked. Going from a iPhone 12 Pro Max to Fold 5. I'm honestly kind of happy the Fold 5's outer screen is narrow as I have kinda small hands and struggled using the Pro Max with one hand.
      iPhone releases have become so stale and unexciting and so is the first phone purchase in a while that I've been ecstatic for.

    • @atmosphericentry0
      @atmosphericentry0 7 місяців тому +1

      @@JonCom3dy I love it! The transition from iOS to Android was a bit confusing at the beginning but now I'm completely used to the phone. I do a lot of reading so the fact it's pretty much a foldable ebook I always have on me is a huge plus. Also when I'm traveling I dont feel the need to bring a laptop or anything. Plus it just feels very premium in my hands. I was worried about the bulk but I don't even notice it. In fact, sometimes I forget it's in my pocket as it's so narrow. My only cons are I slightly prefer the iPhone cameras, and good cases are kinda hard to find (plus most of them have a one time adhesive for the front screen so you can't take them on and off). But those cons are minor to me and Samsung Care Plus was half off when I bought it so I pretty much use that as my case and have nothing on my phone.

    The Samsung is my pick over the Pixel. When watching a video in landscape mode, the speakers fire from left-right as it should be, not top-bottom as the Pixel does it.
    How to make the narrow front screen useabke is learn to swipe type. I can do it faster than 2-thumb typing now.

    I've had the fold 5 for a month now. Complete game changer. Spreadsheets on the go on Microsoft 365, multitasking, consuming media, etc. It's a monster of productivity. There's just no going back to a slab phone, imo. I'd definitely suggest samsung's insurance, though. I've had no issues, but it eases my mind that should something break down or be damaged, I'm covered.

    I've had iphones for over 10 years and grew tired of Apple and the minimal upgrades whenever a new device is released. I had the iPhone 12 Pro Max for almost 3 years and just decided enough is enough. I took the plunge and purchased the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and its hands down for me the most amazing device that I've ever owned. The skinny front display took some getting used to at first but once I got the hang of it I found this was no longer an issue. Best decision I ever made and have zero regrets

    I wanted a tablet like screen for taking notes mostly and sadly samsung is the only foldable with a good stylus. They also have been doing foldables for longer so i get a better feeling of security that mine will last but thats totally just wishful thinking of course. And thats why i ended up woth the fold5 and put up with that slimmer screen. I will say the slimmer screen means you can multitask on the front screen pretty good actually, so another W there.

    Admittedly, I have tiny hands, but I'm fine with typing on the cover screen. Plus like Apple the ecosystem that Samsung has makes switching from my Z Fold 5 to my giant Samsung Ultra Tab S8 seamless. But I can see why many people can't stand the narrow outside screen, that's a legit gripe for a lot, if not most people. Great and very fair and balanced review.

One element to consider in your evaluation of the size of the cover screen: the experience would probably be much better for someone like me, a (self confessed older) female who has quite small hands. Just love the Fold, I have bought everyone, my only gripe was Fold 3 to 4, 4 felt very weak in the the day to day use, it was the 1st version that I sold on before I broke it, I am also an Apple fan & always buy the best top tier in them too, although interestingly though since Fold 5, I no longer have an uneven split of daily driver, I use both fairly equally, the only function that will always win is Apple music, it has always been my go to, with over 50,000 tracks downloaded with both phones being 1tb storage, the optimisation for iphone means I have more available memory left over than Galaxy Fold 5 has.

    I would be curious if the Z Fold 5 typing is better using Swype instead of trying to type on it cause it is more narrow? I use Swype for about 90% of my typing on phone, and I think that a narrower phone would make it easier for me to get around the keyboard. Might have to check it out more. I would also be curious about how you find using it within the Apple ecosystem, as in you cant really and if it has really impacted you or do you carry 2 phones like some of the other content creators

    Bought a Flip3 last year to use with a business line. I liked it but did not love it, so I moved the business line to my iPhone 14 Pro Max as a second line and have kept the flip to use with wi-fi. Would love it if Apple would come out with a fold, but I can wait. The high cost of the Samsung makes the iPhone Pro models look cheap in price. I also have an iPad mini, so really little use for a fold at this stage. As for cameras, the Samsung pictures are impressive, but why not buy a separate camera for important picture taking. I have always thought of the phone cameras as nothing more than point and shoots and selfie and scanning devices.

    Nice review. I prefer the smaller form factor when the phone is folded, so went for the Fold 5. Had an iPhone 12 Max, but really wanted a fold phone as being a software developer, I'm used to split/two screens.
    With the online 30% discount from Samsung I could get the Fold 5 for $2k Canadian all in. And... there was also a 24 month interest free credit with Affirm. $83/month Canadian for two years. Sold.

    Even though I like the P7P, I decided on the Z fold 5, based mainly on software, the folding format/hinge design, better heat management and the experience they have developing foldables.
    I agree the front cover display could be 2-3mm wider. But I have very small hands and it isn't usually an issue.

It will cost half the Fold 5 and have much better cameras, a new chip reported as the first in the world with integral thermal improvements. Yes, it take practice, but it is faster than normal typing with two fingers. It is a new skill to use your drawing finger to do typing.

    I'm just waiting for a foldable iphone, which I know comes off very apple sheep-like, but it's not for no reason. Part of it is like you said: they won't get into it until 'it just works'. Most of it, though, is that I currently get more productivity benefits from the ecosystem than the size of my phone's screen. Hence why I use a 13 mini. Going foldable would be the way to shift tablet-like tasks to my phone without it being so much of a brick, or at least getting more out of that added size and weight.

    @Darkman03 8 місяців тому

    Left Apple bc they couldn't be bothered putting a 120hz display on anything non-pro, and the size of the iPhone Mini was the only acceptable size. The 6+ inch screen is ridiculous and not necessary on a single task-based product. The cover screen on the fold is equivalent to the 12 and 13 mini screen width, meaning 1 device replaced my iPhone Mini and iPad.
    Samsung and Google have made some good progress, but the smartwatch, health services, and update method being hosted by carriers - meaning ATT can block updates if your device isn't on an active ATT line - all still need some work.

    I think Samsung doesn't increase the width of the phone because they would have to make it shorter and it would be hard to incorporate the s pen. The pen would be too small and that's Samsung's staple on their flagship phones

    Whole heartedly disagree with you on the cover screen. I have large hands and only have had a few occasions where it's been a pain to use. But then I'm used it having had a few Folds before. If Samsung widens it I think it will ruin the usability (I don't like wide phones).

    Any time someone prefers the Pixel over the Fold, all they're saying is they don’t like foldables, they like regular phones and tablets when they care to have them. Even with countless downsides to the Pixel he still picks it because its front screen is more familiar.

      The Pixel Fold is a foldable 🤨

    • @TheInstigator32
      @TheInstigator32 9 місяців тому +1

      @MarkEllisReviews It's like you're not hearing what I'm saying. The Pixel is a foldable that focuses more on its front facing screen than its inner display. The user experience is encouraged to use the front display more, and the inside is an afterthought. The Pixel doesn't fold open all the way, it's inside aspect ratio is awkward with barely any apps are optimized for it, it's performance is slower than the fold, it's battery life is next to nothing (if you're someone who uses it as a foldable and not a average phone), no stylus support for a "tablet" like phone, the durability test are embarrassing compared to the Fold, and it smells like expired catfood out the box. The only foldable the Pixel is beating is the iPhone 15 since it can't bend more than 1 nanometer without the entire back panel shattering.

    I was an Android user are the fiasco I have with the Galaxy note 4? I switched to IOS. I tried a Google Pixel 4 and found it was a good phone but the memory was too small. I was still within my 24 trail period and my phone company totally F-me into going back to IOS. But I’m limited on access to websites the use older technology. I work for a dealership and some of manufacturers websites won’t load or open with and IOS operating system. It doesn’t matter whose web browser I use. I tested a Z fold at my local phone store I was able to get onto every one of the websites I use. Yes I’m thinking about making the switch.

    I wasn't interested in folds pre-Google released the Pixel Fold and took the front display seriously. Sadly, the Fold4 I have has proven frustrating to the point of hate because of that front display. I want to avoid opening it repeatedly or using a swipe keyboard. This fundamental flaw is proven by every other fold having a wider front display. Over 80% in a poll on Twitter wanted a wider Fold 6 display. Poorly done, Samsung, poorly done.
    Not only would a wider display be a big boost for use, but it would also allow a larger battery as per other folds and maybe even room for an S-pen silo. We can only hope that Samsung admits its mistake and gives us what the majority want. So they missed a sale for me, and I am now on the Pixel Fold and love the choice of having a usable front and inner display... the choice is great, not forced.
    Other than that deal-breaker, the Fold 5 looks very good, just needs a bigger battery, 10X zoom, S-pen silo, better inner display (PPI of S23U is 50% greater) and more modern UW and 3X zoom lenses.

    I have both. I got the pixel fold maybe 2 days ago and here's what I've discovered...where Samsung trips up? Google excels in spades and vice versa. If the pixel fold had the fold 5s battery life, fast charging and processing speed/power? Nothing would touch it. Same way if the fold 5 had better cameras, a wider screen and googles software. The pixel fold so far to me is the better foldable but the fold 5 is no slouch as well...can't lose with either.

    The Pixel by no means matches the Fold 5. If you think the cover screen is an issue, we'll just tick to a normal slab phone. You don't need to buy a pixel to get a wider display and not even use the inner larger display. It's frustrating that every reviewer is losing the point as to what a foldable is supposed to be. It's supposed to force you to use the massive display more than the outer display.

      No, it is not meant to force you to use the inner display. That is a joke, and if that was what Apple created, a dodgy front display and said you are supposed to use the internal screen, they would be the laughing stock. You pay $1800 and deserve both screens to be great, and using free will, choose inner or outer with zero compromises. Wrong, wrong, wrong!

    I disagree - the pixel fold looks too wide open and looks uncomfortable to hold. Those thick bezels are ugly, resembling something from the last decade. Trust in quality is another issue. I would rather have something I can rely on and not doubt.
