  • Since we travel full time in a RV, we have the chance to camp at amazing sites- like Fort Clinch in Fernandina, Florida. This may be my favorite beach campground yet,
In this video, we show you all the FUN STUFF (fort. beach, hiking, mountain biking; lighthouse; metal detecting; Old Town)- & a site by site campground tour, including primitive tent area, plus amenities. See chapters below to skip to the part you are interested in.

Address: 2601 Atlantic Ave., Fernandina Beach, FL 32034

$26 A NIGHT at the time we camped- includes water & electric (some 30, some 50)
    Park map: www.floridastateparks.org/sit...
PROS: Beachside Specific=nice boardwalk to beach; beautiful sunrise/sunset; shorebirds were mating; tent only area; deer on beach; newly painted roads and parking spots; new bathhouse (nicest one Larry has ever seen); dump station close; washing machines. The Park=hiking and mountain biking trails; Civil War Fort (Riverside campground closer); old ruins; friendly staff; close to historic downtown; dog friendly (accept boardwalk & beach)
CONS: Our beachside spot was only 30 amp & no sewer hookup; bugs/no-see-ems; no dogs allowed on boardwalk or beach; lots of jellies on beach; beachside has few spots & only 1 gave privacy; poor internet; if shorebirds are nesting, parts of beach may be closed

    INTERNET
The cell service in the beach camping area was weak on ATT, we had to use our 25 foot antenna to get a decent signal.
Other campers told us that the signal in the River Camping area was much worse

I love Florida parks. They sure do them right. This one is really nice and right on the beach. Can't beat that at all. I am a history nerd so love the fort. That is cool how they did it up. Like the lighthouse as well. Well I saw the jelly fish. Want no part of that. lol Looks like a couple already paired up there. lol I do like the the birds though. Very cool. This looks like a killer campground. I for sure want to check this place out at some point. Sites look to be a very nice size and spread out a little. I really like the tree covered sites. The shade during the hot months would be a great way to stay cooler. Plus it gives more privacy. Bathhouse looks nice as well. Good video y'all. Off to the zoo talk to y'all later.

    • @DownsizingMakesCents
      @DownsizingMakesCents  3 роки тому

William, this is another tough one to get reservations, but it’s worth it. We had the only private site on the beach side.
The fort was amazing. But I’m so annoyed we missed the up close lighthouse tour. Next time.
That’s the first time I’ve seen a jelly like that 😬
The tree area supposedly has a bigger bug problem and worse internet. But it would give shade.
The bathhouses are pretty new. They listed repainted lines on the roads.
Super clean and well maintained park.
      You would love it,

Ah, the memories of both the park and the towns. Loved it. As you noted will be returning - and I don't blame you - I'm sure you will be paying attention to the times on the lighthouse. While you focus on Florida, perhaps consider a day trip for the Georgia side of the river. As you look across the river, that is the southern tip of Cumberland Island National Seashore. Technically, there is primitive camping carrying everything in with reserve able sites, but access to the island is by passenger ferry from St Marks at the National Park headquarters or private boat - no cars. In addition to Dungeness Mansion Ruins (Carnegie winter home), the island is noted for the wild horses. A lot of hiking, but definitely a good daytrip diversion with great photo ops.

    • @DownsizingMakesCents

Larry, we stayed at Crooked River State Park. We were very close to doing the ferry. I definitely want to go to Cumberland Island.

How do you.feel about getting in to NS now? They've changed their rules 10 times since your May video. I am dual, (and own a house there) and recently could register my travel because I'm considered a seasonal resident. Also registered my 'drive-through' with NB. I'm hoping for the best that they don't close down again. It's been almost 2 years since I've seen my house.

Mary, I’m so sorry to hear that. We have been thinking about being 6 months in Canada and 6 months in the states.
The rules do keep changing, but we are updating our plans and adjusting.
Larry really wants to see his nephew in Nova Scotia.
We will have to wait and see.
      Good luck and stay safe,

No. Near the end of the video, we show the water and power. No sewer hookup. But dump station close enough to walk a blue boy

Dean, cold is relative 🤣 I grew up in south Florida and the weather lately is so hard to predict. We were there in April, but only a couple of days were “cold.”

Roxanne, mountain bikers have to go one direction.
Larry rides share trails often. He can see hikers in the distance. He’s never seen an accident between a hiker and a mountain bike.
      Enjoy your time in Florida,
