A Look at 8 private RV Parks, North Central Florida (RV Living) 4k

  • We are stuck in Florida! We planned to go northwest to escape the Florida heat this summer, but Larry's recent diagnosis with a rare Neuro disease (MOGAD) has meant a change in plans. We must stay near UF Health at a private RV park/campground/resort so Larry can get IV/IG infusion treatments
So, we checked out 6 private RV parks all around Gainesville, Florida, north of Gainesville and south of Gainesville.
In this video, we will show you the campground where we stayed for two months, the 6 we toured, and the one that we picked in the end. We used to travel full time, moving every week to two weeks, so being stationary in our RV for months at a time is something new (except when Florida state parks were shut down at the start of the Pandemic).
Its an adjustment, but necessary for Larry's health. Let us know how you like staying in one spot for months. Also, let us know if we missed a RV park that would fit our criteria.

New subscriber here, thank you for this video. So sorry about your health problems, Larry, it can't be easy. Hope you are on the mend. We are Florida residents (Crystal River area) and part time RV'ers. Of all the parks you reviewed, Williston Crossings is our favorite. We have stayed there many times, always in the same campsite, which is a pull through in the north park area. It's large, roomy, well kept, peaceful, quiet and the staff are great. As usual within the RV community, we've met some very nice fellow RV'ers each time we have been there.

As a MS patient, I lost 50% of my vision in my left eye when I was 29. I was a Rehab nurse at that time. My vision loss was diagnosed as optic neuritis and nothing was mentioned about MS but I had the hospital library look up the diagnosis. While sitting at the desk in charge of an 18 bed Rehab unit, I found out that I very likely had MS. It was a very big shock and as I was seeing my eye doctor daily, he got a rather blistering chewing out that day. That was over 30 yrs ago. I never stopped working during that first episode. Took high doses of steroids because this was before IV/IG infusions. I have multiple auto-immune diseases now. I was very lucky to get my vision back and the other MS symptoms have been tolerable.
Having headaches from inflammation of the brain is not tolerable. Bless you, I will pray that you continue to improve. I, too, have much difficulty with activity intolerance. I used to drive all day at my hospice job but had an exacerbation of the MS which required me to stop working at the age of 49. God blessed me with 20 additional yrs of work after my first episode. You can do it!!!! Thank the Lord for each day and don't push yourself. I live an hour north of Jacksonville, FL.

What an inspiration you are. Thank you for sharing your story. Though I’m sorry you had to go through so much.
People with now diagnosed MOG were originally grouped under MS. That really scared me.
But this IV/IG treatment has helped, along with steroids. But he’s only gotten one treatment- while in the hospital.
Unfortunately, Blue Cross denied outpatient treatment. We are in the appeal process now.
      Wish us luck.

@@DownsizingMakesCents - apply with the drug company too. I also didn't get any specific treatment for the MS because my insurance wouldn't have paid for it. I didn't get a diagnosis for the MS until I was 49 because at that time (back in the 90's), I wouldn't have been able to get any insurance if I changed jobs. UF Health may have something to help too. Check with your social services department. If nothing else, he can go on disability and Medicare will pay for it.

@@DownsizingMakesCents you're welcome! I live in the area, lucky enough to live in my 5ver on a friend's farm. 😉

To each their own. But when it comes to health I would want to be as close to the hospital as I could get, even if I had to clean up around the spot I am camping at. Less pressure on me to drive to the hospital if I had to get there in a hurry. I know what it like to drive to the hospital every day. So closer I could get was better for me.

Yes. Closer to the hospital would be better. But I’m not sure what you mean about “cleaning” up a bit.
We didn’t choose places because they were too costly, no shade, or the campground in general was in disrepair.
Luckily, Larry is doing much better so treatments will only need to be once a month 🤗

Hi! I have friends at Keystone Heights RV Resort. They LOVE it there. I have not visited so I'm unable to tell you if it checks all the boxes. I just know they love it there.1177 SE Keystone Ave.

It looks like about the same distance as where we are now. Thanks. But the price is very high and last time I checked, they had no shade spots.
      But thank you. 🤗

@@DownsizingMakesCents Oh my apologies. I may have the wrong park name. But it is in Keystone Heights. They only charge $600 per month + elec. They charge just over $6,000 for a year if you needed to stay for a year. But the park may not have trees. I've not had the opportunity to visit. Take care.

For 1100 p/m you can get a good apt. And save the cost of rv!

An apartment would be more permanent. We hope to be moving again soon.
And our RV is paid for.
We may get a piece of land once real estate gets better, but still travel for months at a time

Ok I know I'm way far behind but your video came up so I clicked, you never said the name of the last park you ended up staying at but I'm gonna guess at it... was it the floridian rv park?? (Or did i miss something)
