You can eat a 2x4, doesn't mean it will taste good.
Here's a real tip, put it in a paper bag with a banana. The banana releases xylene gas which ripens the avocado. Also, if you have a bunch of avocados, store a few in the fridge to slow the ripening, that way you don't have to eat them all over 2 days.

Exactly, and I'm not sure why he's saying that it's "better than a ripe avocado salad," as I've tried this in my own way as it's fairly well known citrus will force ripen certain things when the inside is exposed. It's not good. What he likes is the taste of citrus. Doing the same with a ripe avocado produces a much deeper and richer flavour as you actually get the full flavour of the avocado. So yeah, terrible food hack I can verify is bad. Same thing with bananas.

Sure! Here is a process on how avacados are ripened:
    1. Choose the right avocados: Select avocados that are firm and free from any visible bruises or blemishes. The color of the avocado's skin may vary depending on the variety, so focus on the texture instead.
    2. Gather the necessary materials: You will need a brown paper bag or a plastic bag and a ripe banana or apple. The banana or apple releases ethylene gas, which helps speed up the ripening process.
    3. Place the avocados in the bag: Put the avocados into the bag, making sure they are not overcrowded. If you have multiple avocados, it's better to ripen them separately.
    4. Add the ripening agent: Place a ripe banana or apple inside the bag with the avocados. This will increase the release of ethylene gas and help in the ripening process. Make sure the banana or apple is not touching the avocados directly.
    5. Close the bag: Seal the bag tightly, trapping the ethylene gas inside. This will create a controlled environment, allowing the avocados to ripen faster.
    6. Store in a warm location: Keep the bag of avocados at room temperature, preferably in a warm spot like the kitchen countertop. Avoid placing them in direct sunlight or near sources of heat.
    7. Check the avocados regularly: Check the avocados daily to monitor their ripening progress. Depending on the initial firmness, it can take anywhere from a few days to a week for the avocados to ripen.
    8. Test for ripeness: Gently squeeze one of the avocados to check for ripeness. If it yields slightly to gentle pressure but is not too soft, it is ready to eat. If it feels very soft or mushy, it may be overripe. Remember that avocados can quickly transition from an underripe to an overripe state, so keep a close eye on them.
    9. Store ripe avocados: Once the avocados have ripened to your desired level, you can either eat them immediately or store them in the refrigerator to slow down the ripening process. Ripe avocados can last for a few days in the fridge.
    10. Enjoy your ripe avocados: Use the ripe avocados in various dishes like guacamole, salads, sandwiches, or as a topping for toast. Enjoy the creamy and flavorful fruits!
Remember, the ripening process may vary depending on the initial condition of the avocados and the ambient temperature. This process provides a general guideline, but it's important to adjust the ripening time as needed.

Yeah but the flavor is not the same. Riping like in any other fruit literally changes the composition of the fruit thus changing the flavor. Because avocados have a high fat content they can be 'softened' but that's not ripe. Riping turns fruit sweeter as it breaks down. Maybe it's not as pronounced in avocados but I definitely can tell.

    Tip.
If your avocados are not ripe ,store them in a dry box or bag in your pantry wrap them in old cloth (does not have to be old). It creates a warm environment in which they ripen quickly. They will be ready in a few days. They taste good also.

I’m so worried for people that say you can’t cut/scoop an underripe avocado. It’s really not hard. Quarter it for easier peeling and you can easily remove the skin with a knife and slice it. No matter how underripe. If it’s so underripe you can’t peel/cut it that way, a little lemon won’t save you from how nasty it’s gonna be. If you’re really desperate just ripen it in the oven on low before you peel it.

A way that’s actually worked for me to get ripe avocados faster is to leave them in a paper bag right after getting them! Not sure why it works, but even though the tactic is still, yk, actually just waiting for it, it does speed it up :))

    • @rooksdoubleohseven9919

It's due to the bag trapping in the ethylene gas produced by the fruit. The gas is what promotes ripening.

It’s not about the toughness or how “soft”. A unripe avocado is almost flavorless so when one is ripe the actual flavor development is much more profound.

Putting your avocados in a paper bag with an apple and closing the bag makes them ripe in a day or two just left on the counter in the bag. After they start to soften put them in the fridge to keep from over-ripening.

Unripe avocado will either give the shits or constipate you.
There’s a reason why we eat fruit and vegetables at a certain point.
Just because you can make it soft enough to eat doesn’t mean it’s ready to eat.

Unripe avocado are this bitter because of a little toxin called persin. Humans are mostly fine with it, but might experience stomach aches and cramps if ingested in high quantities. This can be somewhat alleviated through heat, cooking or baking, since it makes the toxin break down, but waiting until it's actually ripe is always the better option.

you can also put a avo thats not fully ripe yet (say its 60-70% there) you can put it in microwave on medium level for 1min and then turn it around and another 1min. It becomes warmer and softer.
