Good stuff Doc. I'm 79 and recently badly scraped the side of my calf. Wound got mildly infected and had major swelling.
Went to my wound specialist and he prescribed 10 days of antibiotics. He then scraped it once per week and also prescribed
Santyl ointment which is like Vaseline only much stronger. Now healing really well. You need a script for this and it's expensive but worth it.
Legs are the slowest to heal and you need to keep wrapped with ace bandage for support, clean and change ointment daily,
Went to my dermatologist for a second opinion and he said to stay with wound docs program.
    Good luck.

This was super helpful! I have always been suspicous of that foaming hyrdogen peroxide! I currently have an area of skin that has been itcy and weepy for over a week. It started as blisters and itchiness. I don't think I have been treating it correctly. How do feel about manuka honey. I had a burn once that got infected and the doctor recommended it. It did help things heal faster and less scaring. Thank you Dr. Sugai.

Thanks doctor! 😊 I've been struggling with looking for a doctor's opinion on how to take care of wounds since I wanted to start my first aid kit and I REFUSED to buy hydrogen peroxide because I knew it was bad for wound healing but I wasn't sure what was the best option to have in my kit 😊😊😊
    Thanks again!!!! Super useful video

Thank you!You covered everything, so well. After two bites would not heal, I went to the urgent care facility, worried that they were not healing at all. The doctor told me that I was delaying healing on my shin, by damaging new skin cells every day, by using alcohol alternating with vinegar to clean the itchy bites. Now that I have learned that I have an extreme histamine reaction to all insect bites, I will stay with Aquaphor, and allow my skin to heal naturally. I do like the small band aids that cover the cuts and allow them to stay moist.

To stop the itch, run very warm almost hot water over the bite, as hot as you can stand obviously not burning youself for 10 seconds. Like a hot bath. The itch will stop for 2-3 hours.

How do you feel about Shea Butter instead of Vaseline? Apparently Petrolatum other than Vaseline might be contaminated as well because our standards aren't as high as Canada or Europe, Vaseline is triple purified however.
I also found a plastic-free option for four ounces for under ten bucks whereas there obviously isn't a refined version of that for Petrolatum packaging or processing-wise. Considering petro-plastic can interrupt the endocrine system and exasperate IBS etc I've been eliminating it more and more from my life, paint is another big culprit for it too btw.

What? Grandmas bottle of "Tincture of Iodine" was not the best as a boy growing up in dirt on a farm?
I had a number of crazy stuff, the big one was a broken board over a shallow porch and went to a wound center at our hospital. They removed tissue but no antibiotics!
Having back 1 per month, it was infected, puss up & down, they acted shocked, yet still no Rx antibiotics or topical. I kept asking and no answer. I have McKesson Dermal Wound Cleanser but can I spray, wipe gently using a Kimberly-Clarke L-40 lint free paper towel to help clean. I still use gauze under compression socks as taped & wrapped hurts!
Should I clean with a towel used to clean auto-body paint with cleaner. Should be fine, right? Thanks, very informative and grandmothers everywhere for 150 years have grab the iodine! LOL...

      1 because our parents fuck3d
2 if we don’t die new things can’t be born. It’s simply the passing of time, even stars die, the difference between us and the stars is that we’re able to understand the concept of death.
3 nothing will happen to you as an individual. You’re brain will stop working and therefore what makes you, you will stop. But you’re body will disintegrate and slowly through the passing of time, help bring other things into existence that future generations can enjoy.
