Fabulous demo! Thank youConnie and Cynthia for sharing!
Great review of all the inks. Thank you Connie :D
the moon palace bottle scared me 😂
Wow there's a lot to learn , I purchased the green bottle you reviewed. Great video !
I've got so much to learn! Thanks for posting this video.
Your writing is just awesome
I don't do pointed pen but that large bottle of Moon Palace looks amazing to have. Beautiful work.
This is such a useful video! I agree that that the kuretake zig sumi ink takes a very long time to dry. I recently used this for a commission work and even after a day’s drying time, the ink was not completely dry and accidentally smudged a little. Wish I had watched this video before. Definitely going to use the moon palace ink for future commission works. Thank you!
thank you for actually giving me a thoughtful, human-created list, i have been wading through pages and pages of search results and they were all articles that were written by bots with amazon affiliate links
Hi Connie! Your reviews are incredibly useful. Can you do a review of the Pilot Iroshizuku ink, Noodlers and JHerbin inks. I know these are primarily fountain pen inks, but there are so many gorgeous colors, I'd like to be able to use them 😀
A how to demo working with coloured gouache would be interesting. Particularly in my case pairing with an art image created also in gouache
I adore the smell of sumi ink! Its like burnt earth, ash, wood, or soil.
Same here. Really enjoy the smell of sumi ink. You're named the fragrances that compose Sumi ink exactly right. These fragrances is what makes the smell of this ink so wonderful. People who don't like smell of Sumi ink should once try to take a sniff of pure iron gall ink. That stuff really has that strong odor. I can tolerate it but I doubt people who find sumi ink smell unpleasant also will.
awesome
I do both Chinese and western calligraphy!
The white bottle yasutomo was the ky and the green bottle is the kf (waterproof) hence the shine.
Thank you for this video and channel.---lsj
Could you tell me please the advantage/disadvantage or if personal preference for using an oblique pen as opposed to a straight pen. Your pen , to me, would qualify for ergonomic status. Enjoying your videos, thank you!
Thank you for such a thorough review! I've been using the green bottle yasutomo and felt that it wasn't doing well with hairlines. I recently ordered a bottle of moon palace & am excited to use it! Can you do a video of your favorite inks to use on metallic and shiny papers? Also, do you dilute your bleed proof white to allow it to flow better? I've used it a couple times and seem to struggle to find the right consistency. Thank you, Connie!
Hey Natasha, yes, the BPW should be diluted with distilled water. 😀
你好 有没有试过任何国产墨水?下周回国,有推荐的话想要试试看。
How interesting! I would like to order Best Bottle Sumi Ink, is waterproof?
Which nib do you recommend with copperplate usinghis ink. It looks fabulous. Does i🎉🎉t take lon🇬🇦❤️g
Hi Connie ! your review is my favorite( best ink calligraphy) thank you and my love your pen holder please help me name and model this item (oblique pen holder and nib)
Just one question to ddress in future clips is how much water you can away with adding ? Thanks for this review. Excellent as always.
+1
Another question to address in future clips is how much "background" "music" you can get away with adding.
I really appreciate you sharing your expertise as I grow more familiar with sumi. One request, the music laid overtop is a bit overwhelming and distracting so I have to turn off the volume and only read subtitles. Not sure if its the same with other videos (this is my first visit here) but maybe something to keep in mind? Otherwise, super helpful and interesting.🙏
same here. I was just going to ask the viewers, if anyone knew of a trick for blocking out the music: "overwhelming & distracting" describes the impression I got exactly. (And believe me, I have a high tolerance, so I know it was simply too much, even for me.)
Thank you so much for this awesome review!!! I've only ever used regular Yasutomo sumi ink (since I'm a beginner) , but after watching this video, I can choose my next bottle of sumi ink more wisely. Also, is there any way for you to review various walnut and/or watercolor inks? I'm thinking on using some for pointed pen, but I'm not sure which ones to buy. Thanks again!
Thank you for your kind words, I'm currently reviewing Walnut inks and that review should be up shortly.
+Connie Chen Calligraphy Oh awesome, thank you! :) I'll be sure to see it.
Can I use it with Alcohol based markers ?
I bought days ago Pelikan 4001 ink for my dip pen. I started writing and the ink seems to be extremely liquid for a dip pen, O don't know if that ink is for fountain pen instead.
Do you think pelikan is a good one for dip pen? More over my nib can "store" just a little of ink (it's a leonardt set for beginners), I don't know if this is due to the ink. (I've also set the nibs with a lighter and I've cleaned them). HELP ME PLEASE!!!
You should've bought Pelikan Scribtol (for calligraphy) or Pelikan Drawing Ink. Both were designed for use with dip pens. Scribtol flows better than the Drawing Ink, but it's also less opaque.
What type of pen is this? I’ve never see an offset nib styled pen like this! Very cool! Where can I find one?
It is called an oblique holder. You can order one here www.connie-chen.com/penholders
Hi, as I gather, the Kuretake Black Ink 60 doesn’t contain animal glue. Is that correct ?
Also if you could recommend some Sumi inks without animal glue.
Lastly, does Sumi damage the nib ?
Thanks .. 😊
Sumi ink has a 6.3 pH. It's very very close to a neutral pure water pH of 7. Which means it causes zero damage to your pen in terms of corrosion. What you should really worry about is a Iron Gall ink. It causes instant corrosion to a bare carbon (not plated or non-stainless) steel pen and it greatly diminish life of your pen. Better alternative to a Iron Gall ink is a walnut ink. This ink has the same super thin hairlines but without destructive properties of iron Gall ink. Real black walnut ink pH is a 5.9 and Tom Norton's Walnut ink made from Peat Moss has pH of 6.3. The only downside of walnut ink that it's not very dark as it has a sepia color.
@@TheYoggSaron Thanks .. 🙂
Hi, i use daiso calligraphy ink with a nib and a 100gsm paper. But somehow the ink bleeds, , how can i prevent this?
Been using daiso ink lately, seems that daiso inks are quite thin that's why it tends to bleed but it works perfectly with bristol board smooth surface and once it's dry you have a nice shiny finished black
@@antonellgengania1202 thanks!
