    Sumi ink is supposed to be slightly watersoluble as thats the effect Sumi artists want to achieve when using only Sumi ink in different dilutions and no other colours. It's not a fail, rather it did its job.

    Thabk you, Teoh! I always resort to your reviews whenever I want to decide what to buy! However, I feel that this time the Sumi ink didn't have a fair waterproof evaluation, because maybe it needed more time to dry.

    One more test you could have added is to see how well the ink spreads and create beautiful effects on a wet saturated watercolor paper.

    I used to think those inks were the same, but with different packaging/marketing. I experimented by putting a syringe of water in the manga 60 ink, and it's not as dark but is more controllable from a pentel pocket brush than the standard ink.
    Shame on Pentel for making pens that don't take universal cartridges.

    That problem with the paper seems to be oil. Sometimes we don't notice our fingers are oily (not really dirty, just oily because the skin produces oils) and touch the paper, leaving an unnoticeable oil print on the paper. We only notice said oil prints when painting or writing something.

  • @mariakutsu5946

    thanks you for reviewing the inks. I have been meaning to use these inks but was pretty much doubting to buy since they have a high price tag when I get it from retailers here.
    also do be careful when you use your copics with inks or ink drawings . Sometimes the ink can stain the marker's tips and it can lead to further damage on the tips.

  • @SorryIcantIhavebookclub

    Your review was really helpful. Thanks! Any recommendations for lettering ink? I have nibs that belonged to my dad (the nibs are over 50 years old) and I don’t know what ink to use ( I am a beginner but used real brush pen and tombow before).

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  6 років тому +3

      The inks in this bottle will clog up the nibs eventually since it is really difficult to completely clean a nib. So for starters, maybe get those inks that are meant for fountain pen use. But get one with large bottle opening for use with dip pens. E.g. Sailor KiwaGuro, Daler Rowney Calli ink.

      @@teohyc Yes, Sumi Ink 60 IS WATERPROOF, but you must give it a chance to actually DRY. Instead of going at it with a wet brush after a mere 5 minutes, let it dry for a couple of hours and try again. It actually says so on the bottle and you actually read it out loud during the video: WATERPROOF AFTER DRY. The Black Ink 60 was specifically designed for people who think ink should be completely dry after 5 minutes, i.e. impatient people and morons.
