- Wort Cunning using herbs and plants is more than simple herbalism; it's European folk magic. Many of us love to work with these herbs, or simply have them in our gardens, but we know very little about them compared to previous generations. Herbs have always been used as medicine, but many folk cures didn't just use a plant, they enlisted the plant's magical aid. Here I talk about using plants magically in spells or cures and what we can understand from old folk magic practitioners of the past.

Thank you I love plants, so unhappy unless I'm surrounded by them. I lived in Newcastle City for 10 years and it was a terrible place. All concrete. I don't think I could ever live in a city again... I much prefer the wisdom of trees, don't you?
@@TheWitchInTheWoods I do. I was the same as you in your 10 years in the city during my 20 years at sea. Didn't know it then, but I was lost and rootless. 30 years now on this wooded valley I made my home, and it's exactly where I'm meant to be..

Here in the U.S. there are still herbal practitioners that gather and use the wild herbs ..As you said use caution if you are attempting this and if possible follow an experienced herbalist . This is the same as collecting the edible mushrooms be CAREFUL !..As always you have given us a wonderful video , many thanks !
Absolutely, good advice. Mushrooms are something I don't really pick, because I find them too dangerous. Even experienced mushroom foragers have made mistakes, sadly and fatally. It is probably a good idea to ask someone who can identify plants in your area, like a proper teacher of wild foraging ,if you are an absolute beginner.

Absolutely fascinating! I was very suprised to hear they gathered herbs at night as from a herbal medicine perspective a plant is best gathered in the sun when the volatile oils are strong
Yes, that is a bit at odds with herbal medicine today, but I think they also took into account things like the energies of the Earth, and the Energies of the Moon. At least I know they have certain conditions for picking plants with favourable moon and star sign phases.

What are your thoughts on Utiseta and Årsgång when a person moves a lot and may need to visit different grave yarda and sacred sites each year rather than building a relationship with one place and the spirits there?
Yeah it's not really specified whether it has to be the same graveyard.. it's just a graveyard. So out of necessity I think different graveyards would be fine.
