I’m a cake decorator. Awhile ago I went to an interview for a pretty popular bakery here in LA, the head honcho told me, wedding cakes are just big cakes with borders. I understand he wanted to make it sound less intimidating but to me, he really just downplayed their magnificence and what an art piece they are.
I just started learning how to do fake bakes or dummy cakes, aka, cakes that look like the real thing but made from things like spackle, foam, and modeling clay, and man, I have a new found respect for cake decorators because it is a lot of work. Some of the things I mess up on, I can go back and correct, but if it were a real cake, I would probably have to start over.
to me about cakes. so birthdays cakes are very common cause it happens every year. as for a wedding cake, it's a rare sight cause the wedding events occurs rarely. compare to the birthday cake to a wedding cake, you know it's something sight to behold and grasp that moment as much as you can. pretty much a once in a lifetime event.

I've never liked those designs that make the cake look like stone or even marble....even when the cake looks beautiful I wouldn't want a cake that looks like stone for my wedding...each to their own.😂
Fondant. I think that using it requires a lot of skill and that cakes can look very good with it, but I also disapprove of its use. For one, people tend to really dislike it. Although, I personally think it makes a cake look very sterile and inauthentic, like a vocal performance that's been completely pitch and tone corrected in post. The perfect, smooth edges look so unnatural. It also takes away from the flavor of the outside, as she said, she wants it to taste as good on the outside as on the inside. Why then remove any complexity to the outside's flavors? Fondant has one flavor: sugar and nothing else. Why gimp the possibility of adding and decorating with a delectable frosting? There are limitless options there. Instead you opt to essentially place my cake in a bland case that at worst people will hate the flavor of and at best will be peeled off to reach the inside, at which point, I ask: what's the point? Use fondant if the cake is never meant to be eaten, otherwise don't use shortcuts to make it look good.
I like baking, and know for a fact that presentation is the most difficult and time consuming element of it. At the same time, I don't like fondant. Reminds me too much of play dough which I've had my own traumas with lol
We’ve always had a love for cooking and eating healthy foods. In fact, each week we would be responsible for cooking a full meal on our own, including dessert! We know that junk food takes a huge toll on our bodies and we believe that we have a duty to take care of ourselves by eating healthy foods. Growing up, our mom made certain that we ate healthy foods. She always packed us nutritious school lunches to fuel our brains and bodies. We would see our classmates eating junk food and could also see how bad they would feel after. We decided that we want to spread healthy recipes for people like our classmates! We want kids and parents to know that eating healthy foods can still be easy and delicious. At first, we didn’t know how to share our love of healthy food. Then we decided to make our cooking videos to share on UA-cam. Our videos show how easy it is to eat healthier versions of foods that we love. We do this by simply switching out a few ingredients. It makes us so happy to know we are changing lives and inspiring families to cook healthy foods. We love what we do, and we will never stop making healthy recipes for you all to enjoy. As soon as I saw her use fondant I knew I had to head to the comments. The fondant hate crowd is one of the most passionate groups out there 😂
which is why I use buttercream fondant. It's pretty tasty.
@@carathebaker it’s still fondant; it’s sugary play dough.
Legit nothing can save that texture.
cause it’s disgusting.
I had fondant once but I didn’t like it that much. Maybe the cake would’ve tasted better if the fondant layer was thinner?

Why would you make an concrete-like design when the cake can be smooth and clean?
She also made such a big deal about the buttercream being smooth and the fondant being smooth and then she texturises it with foil 😅 what.
@@b.6826 I didn’t like that foil thing either but the cake wouldn’t have looked as even if the buttercream and fondant weren’t smooth under.
