  • My 1981 Yamaha XV920R Virago comes standard with an enclosed chain and sprocket. Here I explain how I remove the chain/sprocket cover to run an exposed chain.

I have the same bike. Building a bobber. I liked and did the chain cover remove like you did. Where is your previous videos? Thanks

Awesome Bike! I need some help man, I have the rear tire off but I can't separate the chain cover parts (the 4 Allen bolts holding the two halves together). Did you have to cut the chain to get the whole hub off, then separate??

I can’t remember the exact steps but I did have to cut the chain to get everything out. If you ditch all of the chain lube and covers you’ll have to get an o ring chain anyway. Cut away!

I'd get some sort of rubber cover that wheel bearing I kept mine on still on the original chain around 80000miles and looks brand new

So, you prefer higher maintenance costs, shorter maintenance intervals, and all the mess that comes with an exposed chain. Got it. How do you feel about outhouses, vs. that boring, old indoor plumbing thing?

I guess all the manufacturers should consult you about why they all went to an exposed chain. If you saw how nasty the oil was in there you’d realize that it’s more of mess than getting an o-ring exposed chain.

How did you modified the engine to put the chain?

This model comes with a chain. It’s pretty rare.
