I've watched a lot of reviews of this movie on UA-cam and yours is one of the best; if the two of you were to knock on my door, I'd figure you for Mormon missionaries. One UA-cam reviewer, for instance, described Sister Barnes as a "Goth Mormon". I've got lots more to say about this fascinating yet problematically Christian/unchristian movie, but will limit it to acknowledging that you recognized the women that Mr. Reed keeps imprisoned in his basement-below-the-basement as his wives; I say that Mr. Reed is a devilishly handsome polygamist and misogynist. Finally, I really endorse your alternate ending suggestion, and would have liked to see Sister Paxton found by the three young women who played the childish prank on her at the beginning of this movie. --
