    The wire lasting is really cool. I've been looking into it, and so far it seems distinctly Mexican, though American cowboy boot makers will often do a similar move they call "wiping" with a leather thong rather than wire, but only after lasting with tacks, to bring in any last wrinkles. Apart from that, the closest I've found outside the Americas was some old footage of an English factory with a machine for toe lasting men's dress shoes that inserted and tensioned lengths of nylon cord. Kind of like string lasting, but with friction rather than holes.
