I remember watching Braves baseball on TBS hearing skip Carey along Pete Van Wiern with my late grandparents in Columbus Ga during the summer also the Chicago cubs on WGN with hall of fame Harry Carey Holy cow on the broadcast chip Carey was broadcasting Orlando magic basketball
TBS was the best superstation showing Braves Baseball but reruns of family matters, saved by the Bell and world Championship Wrestling on Saturdays at 6:05pm the main event on Sundays at 6:05pm if the Braves were home or playing the mets, phillies, expos and pirates if the Braves played out in Los Angeles, san Francisco or San Diego it wasn't coming on after captain Planet at 5:30pm
Does anyone know where I can find the actual tribute that TBS did that they were about to show in this video before it got cutoff? I never got to see it. Never even got to see this game because it was on a Sunday.
nintendonerdsvideos he's announced for both teams. He took over for Harry in the Cubs' booth when he died, but then he later went to the Braves and got to do games alongside his dad. I always loved hearing them on the air and how he would still address him as "dad" even in the booth.
From Ohio and I grew up a Braves fan because of (W)TBS. I grew up watching NWA wrestling, cartoons, and old sitcoms on TBS and that led into watching the Braves games as a teenager and young adult. Baseball hasn't been the same for me, or for the Braves as a team, since they left TBS.
WTBS kept Andy Griffith in rotation. Great times. I remember being a kid and everyone was so stoked to get a 4th tv channel with TBS. Channel 17. And yes wrestling was a huge part of their programming
Growing up in Pennsylvania I remembered "Superstation WTBS" for two things: Braves baseball, and that "150 Music Masterpieces" mail-order advertisement they used to air during practically every commercial break. Lol.
The Braves Being on TBS and being really good for an NL team is what created a massive fan base in the 90s I used to be a massive David Justice fan and then Chipper took over
If it wasn't for TBS the Braves might not have had as many fans what they do. I am from Arkansas and I still get TBS but no longer get Braves games as often. But to be fair the Braves have done well by the fans. But 3 generations of broadcasting took place with in one family Harry Carey Skip Carey and Chip Carey and we had the pleasure of witnessing most of it. I don't think that you can talk about the Baves and not mention Skip Carey when it comes to broadcasting. Not to leave out others either.
I remember growing up in northwestern Pennsylvania in the 1980s and 1990s, when our cable company carried both WGN and TBS. I got to watch father and son whenever their respective games were on. Not only that, we also had both WWOR and WPIX out of New York carrying both of THEIR teams, plus the regional affiliates of the Indians and Pirates. Lastly, whenever the weather was good I was able to get Tigers games from the Detroit stations via a rooftop TV antenna. All that variety, and I end up becoming a Cincinnati Reds fan. Lol.
Did you ever confirm this date? That was what I wanted to know... When the beast took them off TBS ? If accurate... Skip dies less than 1 year later..Aug '08
The twins of Chip Caray have just been hired as a duo for the Double A team of the Diamondbacks, the Amarillo Sod Poodles. They haven't fully graduated college yet and have already gotten full time jobs, 138 games I think starting soon. Sounds like the general manager of that team was at the world series near the twins, mom and sister when one of the ushers pointed out to him that was Chip Caray's wife. He always wanted to meet Chip as he had met the 2 elder Caray's. They talked about the double A team and that they wanted to call games together one day. Sounds like in 2 weeks the job opened up and he hired them. So sweet to hear!
I've been a diehard baseball fan since 1995. I've watched countless games on WGN (and made me a die hard Cubs fan), and many games of TBS. I'm not even a Braves fan and I watched a ton of games on their Superstation. Brilliant move making these games nationwide. I grew up in California and New Mexico and watched more games from the teams located in Chicago and Atlanta than my local teams. Made a lot of new fans that way. Including myself.
A personal thrill for me was after the 13-1 loss in Game 5 last season in the NLDS (go figure). I came to the game in my UGA shirt. Chip, after the game and post-game, was gracious enough to pose for a photo with me with the Bulldog connections. A good dude.
I hate the fact they arent on tbs anymore, oh the good ole days..
Those were good times!
Same with the Cubs not being on WGN anymore
ironic that they clinched a trip to the World Series on a TBS broadcast
Man I sure do miss those TBS days. Still love Chip in Fox Sports Soith.
💗💗💗💗💗
Touching, I was born in MN but the TBS crew is a big part of why I love baseball so much.
That's the most beautiful goodbye I've ever seen
I always loved when Chip and Skip called the Braves games.
Maybe one day skip can work for the cardinals someday
You mean Chip....
And he was hired by the Cardinals in Feb "24..
Not too long after you put your comment up here.
As a Cubs fan this is why the Braves are the team in the national league I respect most
because of what we've shared
Maddux
and the Caray family
Absolutely, man I just got chills reading this comment. Much respect and love.

"And a fan from (Insert random Georgia town here) makes the catch."
Nothing like getting off the school bus back in the 90's and tuning in to TBS to catch a Braves game or WGN for a Cubs game.
Dude yes. Always Cubs or Braves and an occasional ESPN game. Miss TBS so badly these days.
TBS + WGN = My entire baseball childhood.
🥹 Well said!

This will be even more sweeter if the Braves win the World Series this year in 2012.
Skip, Pete and Ernie Sr are still not in Cooperstown. Just don’t get it. All deserving
Braves play the astros for the last game on TBS. Braves beat the astros for the World Series tonight!

I can't believe Chip Caray is leaving the Braves!
Let’s grow this channel ! SKIP CAREY MUST BE IN THE HOF!! If I can help let me

Miss you Skip!

Harry Casay, his son and grandson belongs in Cooperstown.

They really should have included Pete and Skip together for this final moment of Braves baseball on TBS.

Wow! Same here! Even the part about being from Ohio :-) Except I didn't watch wrestling

When the Braves played the Cubs Skip would do an inning on WGN with his dad wish Harry had come on TBS

why was Skip not asked to do the MLB games on TBS
Because if he was to be assigned a Braves game, he would be openingly rooting for Atlanta, which they did not want.
Brett Chafin Interesting since Pete Van Wieren did the 1995 NLDS between the Braves and Rockies series.

How did a lot of fans after the Braves/Astros game in 2007 didn't leave the ballpark?
Not only was it the end of the season, but it was also Craig Biggio's final MLB game. Neither team qualified for the postseason.
