Do you think cis with an emphasis in information security is fine to go into even though I might want to switch marketing or product management in future or MIS is a better route.
In many schools, there’s not much difference between an MIS and a CIS program. Both will qualify you for a role at the intersection of business and technology. If a CIS program is offered by a business school, it’s usually not that different from an MIS program. However, if a CIS program is offered by an engineering college or college of technology, it is likely to be very technical and have very few business courses. If you are leaning towards a business role (e.g. marketing or product management), then you should probably go for an MIS degree: it’s a business degree with emphasis on technology. If you want to do technical work (e.g. security), then you might be better off with a more technical CIS degree. Another consideration is that with a technical degree you can always step up into a managerial role. But it’s harder to transition into a technical role from a managerial background. Most entry level jobs are technical. With some experience, people move into managerial roles (with or without additional qualifications in business like an MBA). Nobody will hire a fresh graduate to be a product manager or project manager.
Nowadays, many people start with Python and this is OK. But if you are serious about programming, I would suggest you start with Java, C#, or C++. Starting out with these languages can be tough, but this will give you a good foundation in OOP and instill good programming habits.
I graduated in May of 2024 ass an associates with this degree and it's kind of hard for me to get a job in this career area. Does anybody know where I could get more info in jobs?
I do think that CIS is a great major for a front-end Web Developer. A CIS major is typically exposed to web design technologies, programming, and the business context. Quite often, developing effective front-end solutions requires understanding the business context within which end-users utilize these Web solutions.
I think both are approximately the same. If you want to be more on the business side of things (e.g. Consulting, System Analysis and Design, etc.), then go for MIS. If you see yourself doing technical work (e.g. Programming, Databases, etc.), then I suggest you go for CIS.
@@in5minutes289 the coursework is provided same? I mean the degree called cis... After completion we can do both kinda jobs like project manager or software devolper as we have learned both skills in the degree...??

@@in5minutes289 ok thanks for response.
I wanted to clarify my doubt which is best course to do for a cse student nowadays.
Can Computer Information Systems majors get into the same jobs that Information Technology majors can? The college I am looking at only offers CIS.
They can. IT majors may have more technology classes and less of business subjects.
very helpful, thank you
Is there any specialization in Bsc CIS
All three is imperative?? Or according to their subjects?
Which language should I learn for to understand the other language or help me.

@@wildmoonchild8210 Personally, I think CIS is more aligned with front-end Web Development. For serious back-end I would recommend CS.
@@in5minutes289 Thank you so much, it's hard to find information on majors other than comp sci. I'm really considering majoring in CIS now though
Which laptop is good for CIS students?
Great question, I'm looking at the 2020 HP Pavilion 11th gen 16GB RAM with a SSD.
An normal working laptop would not be good u just need an external graphic card with atleast 4 gb graphics and min 16 gb ram... That is sufficient
Asus zephyrs g14
