    Great cast and wholesome fun.
    It's called the Golden Age of Television for a good reason.

      That's the great thing about opinions, everyone has one, but only mine is right! 😇(just funnin' ya) Anyhoo, I just can't agree that "He (Carl Reiner) was a great comedy actor!" He is a great writer and creator, but IMHO Carl is merely a fair to middling comedy actor, but certainly not a "great" one. - (But then again, what do I know? 😏)

    Carl Reiner was brilliant as the egomanical artist, Sergei Karpetna. Nice to see him as someone other than the egomaniacal, tyrannical Alan Brady. In real life, Carl Reiner was a sweet, lovely man. Nothing like Karpetna, or Brady. Anyway, this was a great episode of the DVD Show.

    At ~4:06: Check out the painting in the upper right-hand corner of the screen; Doesn't that look a whole lot like 'Milly Helper'? - Also, That $50.00 that Rob and Laura paid for that painting of Laura in 1964 is worth approximately $485.00 today! 😲No small sum for a young married couple. More insane than that is the asking price of $5,000 in 1964 is now approximately $50,000.00 in today's nearly-worthless dollars! 🙄

    • @greatPretender79

      They refer to the painting having been done when they first came to NY. The show's strong suit was not consistency, but Richie was definitely born in NY, and he was born in 1956-ish. So the painting would have been done in 1954-ish, as Laura was not yet pregnant.

    • @esmeraldagems9487
      @esmeraldagems9487 11 місяців тому +1

      @@MrMenefrego1No Lol. Rob and Laura weren't newly wed in 1964. They married sometime in 1958 or 56. If Richie was around ten years old (in this season)
      Also, in one episode, the one where Rob tells the story of Richie's birth, He said that he and Laura were married one year before Richie was born. So $50 in 1958 would have been like paying $522. Or if they married in 1956, it would have been like paying $553.

    • @esmeraldagems9487
      @esmeraldagems9487 11 місяців тому

      Or, I think Richie was 8 years old. Not ten. But anyway, I think that's what Great pretender meant about the painting would have cost more than $485 buying power.

    I love this episode (especially that great two line exchange: LAURA: "Sally, if it's the one I think it is, I can explain." SALLY: "If you have to explain, it's the one you think it is."). However, it's incredible how hung up Americans were on things like this back then. (Rob and Laura wouldn't bat an eye if they saw nude studies of the female figure by Goya or Renoir or Rubens in a museum.) It all puts me in mind of that old joke: "God hates nudity. If He didn't, we would all have been born naked."

      I don’t think it’s so much that they were squeamish about nudity. It’s rather that Rob doesn’t want to share his wife with the entire world, and Laura knows he doesn’t.
