    Studying the scene at 20:50 we can see that Buddy was clearly aiming his fist at Rob, despite his crack later "I was tryin' to hit Pickles." That kind of humor from Buddy is inappropriate but it somehow fits his character and the era. He and Pickles had a volatile relationship but I cannot believe he would raise a hand against her.

      I was born in the late 1950s. My teachers all had to wear jackets and many had ties. My dad worked in an office and he had to wear a suit and tie. As recent as the mid 80s I worked in a department store and dress code for men was jacket and most wore ties. You must have lived in the sticks.

    It's strange, watching all of these wonderful episodes and the writers going SO far out of the way to make a point of how NO ONE in these episodes or era of shows ever drinks, when all of them drank regularly in real life, like most of us, and some to excess. I drink, and I know I drink too much, but this whole era of pretending that NO one drinks like Buddy here having juice in the bar while breaking up with his wife is comical on a different level. Just like no one smoked even though MTM AND everyone else on the show and she smoked three packs a day (and even on her MUCH successful MTM show it was reiterated Mary Richards did NOT smoke) and both her and DVD had alcohol issues. I'm NOT putting it down, but looking back now and noting how NO ONE drank ..... kind of ridiculous in hindsight and wondering why the producers deemed it such a bad thing.

    • @evalehde3869
      @evalehde3869 Рік тому +2

      They smoked on the show. It was the socially acceptable thing to do then. They would have a cigarette box on the coffee table and offer guest a cigarette. Rob smoked in several shows.

    • @l.5832
      @l.5832 Рік тому +2

      Many shows of this era had everyone with a drink. The man was constantly given a cocktail as soon as he gets home from work. This show was geared more to families similar to Leave it to Beaver and they tried for a 'clean image' but there are many shows of that era that had lots of smoking and drinking if that would make you feel better about your habits.
