Rob's beginning of the story of him talking to himself is pretty much how I tell a story. Long winded and never gets to the point. I love this show! 😂😂
The long scenes of him alone, talking on phone etc was perhaps the longest in the series except maybe when he goes to write alone in a cabin. Both show how he could get joke after joke from props and simple situations. Carl Reiner loved that about him.
We were talking about the Dick Van Dyke show about we used to get 5 mins of commercials and 25 mins show. And I said ..” true, now we’re lucky to get 15 mins show time..guess that’s progress?” When you said hands down..what new phone? …I was confused. 😄
Rob learned that, sometimes, it's best just to stay home, late at night. ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA Someone asks Robert Deniro's character, "So, what have ya been doin' for the last 30 years? And, he quietly says, "Going to bed early."
Barbara Stuart, Marine here, played Bunny in Gomer Pyle. Garry Marshall wrote the script, he created many tv programs including Laverne and Shirley, starring his sister Penny.
The used car salesman in the t.v. commercial when Rob is watching t.v., is none other than Carl Reiner. He did many of those announcer bits where he wasn't seen, on the show. Just listen.
Reiner announces Everett Sloane as one of the stars of Citizen Kane. Sloane was a guest star on the DVD Show episode "I'm No Henry Walden" and played Henrey Walden. I have no idea why Rob and the audience laugh when Dorothy Cominger's name is announced as a Citizen Kane co-star.
@@MrMenefrego1 Not like it was any better in the 80s and 90s with network tv. We got 8 channels total and almost all of it was boring adult programming and infomercials.
The way Laura acts after she says the girls reminds me of Diane Keaton’s scene on “Father of the Bride” when she’s visiting her husband George. Keaton made the same facial expressions & voice!! 🤓
Love a chance to see Jackie Joseph as the stripper 'Alberta Schweitzer'. You may remember her as the giggling secretary while Sally was away. The 'stripper's costumes' were so chaste my grandmother wore more revealing two piece swimsuits at the beach.
Remember her on the Andy Griffith Show when Ernest T. Bass was learning himself some manners and became friendly with Jackie Joseph. He could hoist her!
@Poetcomic1 I was about to make a comment about that. Also, she played Ernest T Bass girlfriend (Ramona Wiley) on the Andy Griffith Show and Howard Morris who played Ernest T directed a few episodes of the Dick Van Dyke show. It's funny how people are connected on these shows. I know the actors have contracts with the studio and all but it's fun to see the same actor playing different parts on the same show. I would totally love to be a character actor. 😄😄
6:00...The movies mentioned, CITY DESK and MAROONED seem to be made up titles; no listing for Evelyn Keyes in the first, and Myrna (Loy) never appeared in a film with Richard Arlen or Conrad Veidt.
Carl Reiner didn't promote movies, for the most part, so would make up names (or his writers would), and then mention various actors of the time. Television in the 1950s, 60s and 70s was a lot stricter than now....and I wish they'd bring back the ban on foul and vulgar language!
@@systemsproceed248 thanks for the reply. With the exception of an episode or two, the complete series was available here on UA-cam for a long time. I could go to the store, but I have access to the internet.
A lot of sitcoms took their storyline from this show. I have seen the husband missing his wife and getting in trouble in many shows.Other plots I have seen since I have been watching this show as well. It was a show ahead of its time.
THIS is one of the best scripted episodes, primarily due to its opening: Laura visits Rob in jail. Rob tries to explain the timeline of the seemingly absurd events, as in starting @2:29 min. "... an attempted assault on an officer with a deadly weapon." ... "Rob, you had a gun?" ... "No, not exactly a gun." "Rob, what else can you should at anybody with?" "A cannon."

This is classic! Not a weak spot in the whole show!
Even when Rob is looking forward to Citizen Kane and the fast talking car commercial is done by Carl Reiner.
@@poetcomic1 Yes it was, he has a very distinctive voice.
