At the end porsche didnt start in formula, but used the engine of the formula 1 in they greatest project at that moment (in my opinion to this day) which is carrera gt. My friends dad had one of these when I visited them in Sarasota. It was under a cover in their garage and I had no idea how rare it was until the last few years.
I've only seen one of these beauties in person. State college area (bellefonte PA) a handful of years back. I was driving a modestly modded Audi 200 20v turbo and this guy pulls up next to me. Didn't contemplate even trying to challenge him. I just enjoyed the sights and sounds. Awesome Porsche.
I used to build Rolex Cup cars, one of my customers provided me with the opportunity to go full tilt in his Carrera GT with R compound tires around Watkins Glen. I stuck my arm out to wave at my coworkers, and about ripped it off. I didn't realize how fast we were going and it was terrifying.
