The thing is: doesn't matter how much you work out, how strong you are, the discs are softer and lubricate your vertebrae so they don't make contact one another and they have a tendency to crush or squash. Once that happens, they are never the same. In some cases they'll replace it with a teflon one but still. One and done.

With eight bays full of techs. going 50 hours a week, he also has a lot of stories over the last two decades of gas and diesel superduties that literally broke customers financially. Particularly small contractors who struggled to cover the four figure bills for front end, transmission and engine issues. I had a new '03 with 75K on it in two years, when I had to have the rear torn down to flush it out and replace every bearing, after a Chineseum bearing failed and trashed everything. It was shipped from the factory with a front end that looked like it was assembled by drunks with a bucket of scrap hardware they found in a barn. When it was new, the dealer body shop had to pull everything but the hood and fenders, and carefully reinstall the front end so it didn't look like it was in a wreck. It was never damaged, just assembled by monkeys who couldn't give a shit. My shop eventually started advising all fleet customers to dump their 6.0s as soon as they hit 100K, and no longer had the factory motor warranty, since they were too expensive to operate after that. Eventually the Sprinter took the crown away from Ford, when it comes to building the biggest piece of shit of a commercial vehicle available in the states, but the 6.0 sure did some damage.

Hey Tyler! Regarding your complaint about trying to drive it straight... consider replacing the steering stabilizer (horizontally-mounted shock absorber) by the front, passenger tire. Same kinda' thing happens on Jeep Wranglers, and is a common cause of the Death Wobble.
I have a rule of thumb when looking for a good used car. Clean wheels and Michelin tires are always a good indicator the previous owner took care of the vehicle. The Excursion proves this once again!

@@brando12343 Because the glow plugs are only used for cold starts. Once a diesel is running, it uses the heat from the compression to ignite the fuel, but in cold weather it might need the extra boost from a glow plug. So no wonder it was hard to start. :)

We had a 2000 Ford Excursion V10 2WD that we bought new. When we finally sold it last year (all the kids had moved out) it had 198,000 miles on the original engine and transmission. Sure, it drank gas like a piglet on OPEC's teat, but it was a tank. Greatest vehicle we've ever owned.
@@ckmckeon Yes and no. The DT466E (an inline 6, for those who don't know) was the standard engine that was available from the late 80's up. Great engine. Could NOT kill it... and we tried. When International purchased Trans Air and started making buses in house, the V-8 (T444E) was used, or at least available. I can't speak for every school system, but I know the buses order by the NC system had the V-8. I can only assume the same engine was offered in the straight truck as well.
IIRC Lifts if certified are rated to hold at least 1.5x their advertised weight for a certain amount of time with no or minimal issue - if they have a catastrophic issue in that scenario they would not be certified and the manufacturer would have to make a change and have them recertified. There's a reason the Wizard wasn't worried.
For your steering issue. I have a 2000 superduty and had the same steering issue. There is a company thai makes a new steering gear box that uses needle bearings add an upgrade. This helps to take away that slop in the steering. Game changer for my truck.
American lifts use higher grade materials, with higher tolerances, that lift may say 7500lbs but realistically it’s 10,000. If that were a benpack Chinese lift, y’all would be crushed.

we bought ours new in 2003 - absolutely ADORE it!
"Very broken, very exotic." It's how Hoovie likes his cars and how I like my women.

Ew
The woman is cheaper. The Excursion is less expensive.
I’ve had mine since 2009. About to buy another. Mine has been off a cliff, flown off a highway jumped over a ditch, and towed over max capacity over Colorado i70 and i80 countless times in all weather. It will never die.
0:21 best hoovies garage intro EVER.
I have a 2001 Excursion that I have owned for 15 years. It has a 6.8L V10 with 199,465 miles on it. Still running strong.
I have a 2000 6.8. Love it. Had PCM (computer) problems 5 years ago.... The "Anti-Theft" program was suddenly unpredictable (long story).Took the better part of a year to find out the "Diodes" in the Alternator were bad....causes all kinds of problems with the PCM. Went to Ford and bought a re-manufactured alternator for about $200.00 and problem solved. Later.....some douche bag stole my Cat-converter and jacked up the wires to one of my 02 sensors causing the number 17 fuse (under the hood) to intermittently blow....another 6 mos. to track that down....but for the last 2 years it again runs perfect...if people would just leave it alone! Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/hmxfLeDnkZA/v-deo.html

When I bought my excursion years old I asked the sales guy what I could tow with it? His reply "Anything you want"!
@@Coltyyyyyyyy More like anything under 11,000 pounds, a far cry from the current crop of HD's and their 35,000 max tow ratings.
@@Sir.VicsMasher I agree with you Dan. Respectfully,
going back in time to 2004 that was alot of towing for what was a family cruiser. I had a black excursion and I was gobsmacked at how many people got mad just by seeing the SUV drive around. That whole hatred of gas guzzlers went overboard.
@@Sir.VicsMasher I would think those ratings are for gooseneck/fifth wheel towing, which obviously the excursion can't do

That’s why I used to park my K2500 suburban with the 454 in parking spots reserved for “fuel friendly” at Walmart and other stores back then. Prius drivers were angry.
I love - LOVE - the 7.3 Excursions. Wish I had one but know that if I did, I'd be unable to park in most places here in Los Angeles. Only thing is that the valve cover has to come off for a glow plug. On my VW TDI, I changed a glow plug in about 20 minutes.
My wife drive a 2002 version with the same motor, we have had it for 10 years and can’t afford to loose it. We have 6 kids , an 11,000lb travel trailer and live in an area of canada that sees a lot of snow. Since these trucks were discontinued, there is NOTHING any amount of money can but that will accomplish what this truck does ; pull 11,000 , haul 9 people and have 4WD for the snow!
The one consistent lesson I've learned from watching you is to stay away from British automobiles.
And Italian and German..
And French too
An German
@@Natd0gsef don't forget about German
The Ford Excursion has always been my ALL-TIME favorite SUV ever made for many different reasons.
I love your 1980's MacGyver music. After I watch a video, the theme stays in my head for days...lol
If you're not thrilled with the handling, max out the caster. 5 degrees I think. KYB monomax works well on these. Stock they have a very short travel suspension. If your front springs sag you'll be hitting the bump stops frequently. I'm putting new springs in mine. It will be lifted about 4 inches and have more travel. Enjoy the King of Suv's
This guy got the deal of the century. Nothing better than a 7.3 Excursion.
Please never get rid of that intro, “he need some milk” that killed me.
A vin wiki, tavarish, hoovies garage cross over... Sign me IN!!!!!!
Yeah, it be fun content especially if they're doing a TopGear kind of thing.
Has it been released yet or it's still in the works ??
Gotta love how it’s “everything that’s broken” not “everything that’s wrong with it”
There's not that big of a difference you know.
@@p_mishev Right, like these guys are going to come in with hitherto unknown 7.3 or Excursion issues.
Filip Mishev one means “whatever needs fixing”, and the other means “whatever makes the Excursion look, feel, or perform like shit now or in the future”.
@@newfoundrooski Yeah but if something is broken on it that means that there is something wrong with it and if there's something wrong with it that most likely means that there's something broken on it.
I can't stop watching Hoovies garage and Vise grip garage ! 2 greatest youtube channels!!
I had a 2005 Eddie Bower 7.3L diesel and it was one of the greatest vehicles I've ever owned. Bought it with 170k and put 60k on it before I sold it. That 60k was driven in waste veg oil. I installed a kit and drove that thing everywhere. So much fun, and a ton of work. But worth it. Great purchase!
How on earth did you get a 2005 model year excursion with a 7.3? Was the motor in it swapped? The 7.3 was discontinued half way through the 2003 model year for failure to meet more stringent emissions regulations.
Hoovie when you want to sell it because I’ve been watching you for a long time.. this suv is to great to be a hoop tie I will definitely buy it
He will probably sell this one because there is nothing wrong with it !! Remember the old Eldorado ?
Yep 👍 It’s a great truck I know it’s not new but I’m definitely interested in buying it
Five hundred and fifty dollars is great value for that job honestly. Incredible.
I love Tyler he is funny AF
I have an 05 F250 Super Duty that is essentially the same truck underneath. I tow my race car trailer in the summer and plow my snow with it in the winter. It still only has 145k on it. It's the best truck I've ever owned. I plan to keep it until either it dies or I do. Do to the height and seating position, I can make a 6 hour trip and jump out refreshed instead of crippled, unlike most "luxury" cars.
Brotha.... you can NEVER... EVER have too many cars, especially if you do a lot of driving. I don’t care what anyone says. Always be proud of everything you’re driving.
You scored on that one. I love the excursion 7.3
"It's gonna hurt, BUT IT WILL BE FUN!!"
Off camera, Mrs. Hoovie brings out the chains and ball gag...
"Where's the beef?"
Under that Excursion, of course!
It is crazy that they are appreciating. I have seen more on the road in the last few years than all other years combined
The Excursion is possibly your best purchase yet. Well done my man
I loves me a Diesel Excursion...very jealous 😍😍😍
my company used one as a tow vehicle for many years, until wind caught our trailer and blew it off the road

Hoovie did good with this buy. That excursion is clean and well-maintained. Props to the previous owner.
Honestly I just appreciate your honest unbiased opinion on the vehicles you buy dirt cheap vs comparable models
The beginning took me OUT!!!! 🤣 - He need some MILK
Brandon Leslie 😂😂😂😂
Was not expecting that! LOL
other mechanics: yes i’ll have to replace the tentonotic competition complituter, and blinker fluid... it’ll cost $4000 or else you car will get totaled
Please keep the "he need sum milk" as the new intro song 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
would love one of these, driving 99 F250 with the 7.3, 240,000 miles, drags our camper to about 10 Nascar races every year. excursion would be a nice upgrade interior wise.
the thing I like about Hoovies videos, is that I feel like he is just talking to me, and is a friend of mine. He is very humble!
1:25 this channel summed up in one sentence 😂
Hoovie in 2017: "Here's my one year report on this surprisingly cheap luxury car."
Hoovie in 2020: "I bought a cheap car, here's how much it cost to fix, I'll sell it in two week."
Agree with you. This channel has turned into a turd.
Correction, one of the best engines installed into a Ford. Motor is from International. They did replace it with a Ford engine though.
Rear drive shaft has been installed backwards with the slide to the transfer won't really hurt anything except if the rubber dust boot gets a crack or home in it then it will more easily hold dirt and grit
Diesel bros gave one away and now you have one. I’ve been drooling over them forever! I can’t wait for the opportunity to own one. Good job on your purchase.
I've had one of these since 2004 I love these things
I miss my 2001 Excursion Limited 7.3L TD

Respect to the previous owners of this Excursion and respect to you hoovie for making sure this Excursion lives on
A friend of mine has a F250 with the 7.3 and has 700,000 miles on it and it's still going strong with the original not rebuilt engine. You made a great purchase!!!!! Also I think that is the same shop Crazy D the tractor man uses!.
Just for the record, the 7.3L Powerstroke engine was designed and manufactured by International (now Navistar).
Keith Gilbert I figured most people understood that like Isuzu makes the duramax
Wizard must've gotten a real lucky strength-roll during character creation.
I loved the intro!!! "Oh,.... he need sum meee'illkh!"
Wizard: Good news, you just have one start pulg broken!
Also wizard: you have to change all 8 start plugs and the valve gaskets soo it will be 500 dollars.
Mike Anderson yep, i have a 7.3 work truck and it would always have a super hard time starting in the cold but ran fine once it warmed up, well turns out 7 out of the 8 glow plugs weren’t working properly, have no idea how it kept running normally like that
@Mike Anderson I agree, If all mechanics Were like wizard the world would be a better place ahah. V engines are expensive AF to maintain.
@@brando12343 Because the glow plugs are only used for cold starts. Once a diesel is running, it uses the heat from the compression to ignite the fuel, but in cold weather it might need the extra boost from a glow plug. So no wonder it was hard to start. :)
AAA estimates the average american does like $3000 per year in maintenance on the average vehicle. considering more than half of this repair is for preventative maintenance, its not bad at all.
@@brando12343 they usually get hard to start between 3-5 glow plug out... depending on temps.

Had a 2000 excursion with the 5.7 triton engine, let me tell you that truck was a freakin’ money pit!!! From the steering box, to the oxygen sensor, the MAP sensor, the thermostat conked out, the fuel injection computer went out. Finally sold it after it kept not starting for no apparent reason. God bless you if ever buy one of these turds!!!!
0:55 *best International engine ever made

Right along with the IDI. Can't knock those for reliability. Now, speed on the other hand...
Same engine you'd find in the medium duty straight trucks and school buses.
@@Chris_Troxler Most school buses and medium duty of that era were the DT466E. This is not the same. This engine is comparable to a T444E.
@@ckmckeon
Yes and no.
Nearly died at the “he need some milk”
I will be really scared to put that thing on a lift! 😂
I absolutely love my 7.3! Best diesel I've ever owned!
When you get tired of it can I try and buy it from you? 7.3L excursion is one of my dream trucks
That was the LAST thing I expected to hear on a hoovie intro😂
American lifts use higher grade materials, with higher tolerances, that lift may say 7500lbs but realistically it’s 10,000. If that were a benpack Chinese lift, y’all would be crushed.
Like in every developed country, there's always safety tolerance.
Best thing you have bought yet! Keep that thing, it will come in handy if you plan on having a big family and you want to take road trips also.
