The thing is you've gotta explain a lot of things in this movie now because you didn't explain anything in the last two films. Karen was killed almost off screen and we don't see how Michael got away in the last film. So this movie is starting 4 years later and that doesn't sit well with viewers.

There’s a big difference between giving people something that’s brand new and fresh for the fans, while at the same respecting what John Carpenter had done with the original Halloween. DGG didn’t do that. Rob Zombie’s Halloween movies and his take on Michael Myers is a whole lot better than what Green gave us in Halloween Ends. I will take H2 (2009) over Halloween Ends anytime. To me DGG attempted to destroy the Halloween franchise with this film that is hands down the worst Halloween movie ever made, this makes Halloween 3 worth watching, at least Season of the witch has a story that makes sense and you can follow it easy. We don’t need a love story in the horror genre. I watch horror movies to be thrilled, amazed and feel the suspense, not to get all emotional and mushy. DGG better redeem himself with the first Exorcist movie or he should get fired from the filmmaking industry.
Want to redeem yourself and this series and really do something different? Make 2 more completely different plots and endings for a trilogy of ends alone within the trilogy itself to give fans the option to which one concludes it better for them. Though ends was a flop there's no denying that 2018 is the last best sequel we will probably get along with kills. So to finish off such an epic idea like this was just so heartbreaking
I mean I read and saw reviews without spoilers trashing this film so I went in with 0 to low expectations..and ended up loving this film! So different and unique. I'm glad I saw it in theaters.

The executive producers at Universal/Miramax, director David Gordon Green, and all the writers who were responsible for producing this disastrous Halloween Ends film, should all be collectively fired from their jobs and fined millions of dollars in penalties. Assuming they would even be interested, the only way for them to save the Halloween franchise now is to basically retcon/write out/ignore both Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends as if those two films never even happened, and instead come up with a much smarter new sequel for Halloween 2018, which wasn't perfect, but was at least decent enough to salvage something and build from. But as things stand right now, even 41 years later, Halloween II (1981) still remains the best sequel to the original 1978 Halloween. DR LOOMIS: "It's time, Michael." KABOOOOOM ! ! !

Because the franchise was in just such a great place. Im sure the next movie will “ruin Halloween too”, right? He and his team literally revived a franchise that was dead for a decade. They brought it back and got people talking again. They managed to pull John carpenter to give a great soundtrack and Jamie Lee Curtis back. Made the best sequel mask and portrayals of Michael, making him pure evil. And actually showed their passion for the series, giving us some of the most well made movies in the franchise. Many people give them shit, but excuse the same things in the other sequels because of nostalgia. While looking for things to get mad and be negative about. Somehow trying to claim they’re objectively worse than resurrection. It boggles my mind. He was tasked with stretching out the story into a trilogy and still maintaining the Laurie story and mystique of Michael, and he finally gave us a satisfying ending to Laurie story. If it wasn’t for him the franchise would have left off on Laurie getting unceremoniously killed and Michael opening his eyes in resurrection. I feel like a lot of fans are unappreciative that we’re getting new Halloween movies with this effort, continuity, and conclusiveness. He didn’t want to just make the same movie either. People have been really immature with the name-calling and disrespect to this man who just wanted to make people happy and realize his vision. I’ve seen people saying that he’s going to ruin the exorcist when he literally was the one who made 2018 which most loved when it came out. He’s a competent filmmaker, but people like to focus on the negative. 2018 was a solid textbook Halloween horror movie that gave us the reunion of Laurie and Michael. Kills was a fun callback filled classic slasher gore fest that serves as Michaels movie. Then Ends gave us a sort of character study full circle epilogue, that wanted to leave its mark and give us something different. Each movie relies on each other and brings their own elements. We still get to see Laurie and Michael fight but why focus an entire movie on them when we already got that with 2018. People complained that Michael was too powerful in kills, then when it took its toll in ends, people complained about that too. I could go on and on with my defenses. But the point is that all things considered DGG did a pretty damn good job of giving us new Halloween movies that can appeal to modern audiences and fans, while adding his flavor to it, because we’re never going to get that original movie again.

I got the impression they were in such a rush to get it made and knew the hype behind it that they just had an "eff it this'll do" moment.
