Regina King has been in this industry for over 30 years and consistently stays working. In the last 5 years, she's won 3 Emmys, a Golden Globe and an Oscar among other awards. I'm SOOO glad to see her get the credit that she's long deserved!!
It's crazy how everything finally "clicked" for Regina King. Between 1985-2015 she put in 30 years of solid and downright great work just to be ignored by the major awards and critics. But since 2015 she has won an Oscar, a golden globe and three Primetime Emmys, (maybe 4 if she wins in her category this year)along with a slew of other awards. It's so great seeing a deserved artist finally get her dues.

She was favored to win the Oscar, because there were no black winners last year (despite black nominees) and Twitter complained. This year, the Oscars made sure there was a black winner or two. After 2016 and the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, there has been a radical shift in tone and now the nominated movies/performances are done so more for political reasons than meritorious ones. As you pointed out, Regina missed out on nominations at BAFTA and SAG, two very important precursors! (The other one being the Golden Globe.) It is very telling that she missed out on BAFTA/SAG and still won Oscar. When that happened to Sylvester Stallone a few years ago for "Creed" (like Regina, he also won GG but didn't get BAFTA/SAG nods) he went home Oscar-less.

I've been watching her since she played Brenda Jenkins in 227. Since the 80's. Watching her win an Oscar is so incredible. I had tears in my eyes when she did that. Congratulations girl. Well deserved.
I just love how this woman is so talented. I have seen her on movies throughout the years, and even before, I always admire her as an actress and as a human being.
5) Adams, 4) Tavira, 3) King, 2) Stone, 1) Weisz Here's the problem with this category: The actual "best supporting actress" was King by a clear margin, yet in my view, the two most memorable performances of these five shouldn't have been placed in this line up to begin with. In "The Favourite", Anne, Abigail and Sarah all influence the story in equal measure. The film absolutely depends on all three characters to realize its tone and resonance, and all three of its *leading* women rise to the challenge. Honestly, saying Weisz would've been by choice isn't meant to criticize Stone's work in any way, as they both give what might be their most vivid and engaging performances to date.
Lot of lead actresses somehow end up in the supporting actress category. Like the year when Viola Davis won for her role in Fences. Her role in that movie was one of the leads. Or when Jennifer Hudson won for Dreamgirls. Effie White was not a supporting character. Effie was the main character. Dreamgirls was centered around Effie.
So sad seeing Regina’s son smiling, knowing he was in immense pain. Really thinking about this incredible woman…🥺 Can’t wait for Regina to win her EGOT (along with Viola Davis who needs that Grammy)… a Tony for a future Broadway performance and a Grammy for the audiobook of her future memoir. LOVE THIS WOMAN!

Here's the problem with this category: The actual "best supporting actress" was King by a clear margin, yet in my view, the two most memorable performances of these five shouldn't have been placed in this line up to begin with. In "The Favourite", Anne, Abigail and Sarah all influence the story in equal measure. The film absolutely depends on all three characters to realize its tone and resonance, and all three of its *leading* women rise to the challenge. Honestly, saying Weisz would've been by choice isn't meant to criticize Stone's work in any way, as they both give what might be their most vivid and engaging performances to date.

Lot of lead actresses somehow end up in the supporting actress category. Like the year when Viola Davis won for her role in Fences. Her role in that movie was one of the leads. Or when Jennifer Hudson won for Dreamgirls. Effie White was not a supporting character. Effie was the main character. Dreamgirls was centered around Effie.
Weisz really should’ve won this but honestly this was a stacked catergory. All 5 were fantastic
