What I said at the end of the video might not be the case for many of you, but those who live in Japan can resonate with it. Am I the only one to feel this way?😅

There's an analogy with an oxygen mask in an airplane. When they drop down you have to put the mask on yourself before you help others or you'll just pass out which helps no one. Same thing in life...if you're burnt out or sick you can't help anyone else...so helping yourself first isn't selfish, it's done so you actually have the energy to help others ❤

To echo the oxygen mask analogy, Tumblr has a term called spoon theory. In essence, those of us with any mental or physical health issue/difference from "the norm" have a limited number of spoons we can spend on tasks every day. We spend a spoon on every single task we do - from taking a shower to putting dishes away to checking our emails - and as such, need to prioritize our spoon usage, since not every task can be done. So, we, and the world, needs to accept that some days our priorities are in taking care of our needs, so our condition doesn't worsen, and we can't do the rest of what is "expected."
I also wanted to mention in the ADHD community that there is an expression of "stop trying to make your ADHD fit into the non-ADHD expectations of society." This means doing things many find odd - having extra trash cans or having a fridge organized so the produce is front and center to your vision instead of condiments; we may also spend extra on things that are seen as luxuries or pointless - pre-chopped vegetables instead of whole or kid friendly chore trackers or fancy to the elbow gloves. We do these things because we recognize we need them to accommodate our differences from the rest of society. Spending the extra money on pre-chopped vegetables may mean the difference between being able to eat a healthy home cooked meal instead of getting takeout; that pair of gloves may be the difference in getting dishes done at all, since you no longer need to touch them directly. It's OK to be different and have needs that make it so you don't struggle in achieving what society expects of us.
Finally, from how to keep house while drowning (book) and unf*** your habitat (blog), it's important to note when things are good enough instead of perfectly done because chores are morally neutral. Good enough means that when you simply can't vacuum the whole house, you vacuum up the small areas that are the worst. The full vacuum can happen when you're feeling better. How clean your house is isn't a reflection of who you are as a person. Laziness does not exist - we do what we can, when we can, adding the tools or changes we need, without shame.

Dear Miwa, I just moved to Japan 1.5 months ago because of work, everything is new and overwhelming and I am alone. I just got a cold this week. Your videos helped me a lot, I am learning to cook here. Food is so speacial, it lets you into a country’s heart. Thank you for your support. 💚

Love your cooking, and love the fact you protect your kids from getting exosed on the internet. More UA-cam moms should be like you ❤ And I really should try the pumpkin miso soup. I love miso. Would it be ok to use different mushooms? Like shitake, maybe? I can’t get shimeji where I live

    • @MiwasJapaneseCooking
      @MiwasJapaneseCooking  7 місяців тому +3

Yes! of course ! You can use almost any type of mushrooms! I hope you will enjoy it!
My kids actually want to be on UA-cam, but until they are old enough to have a sensible opinion, I decided not to. It would be so much more fun to edit if they are in the video though! haha

I really like how you brought up about kobocha squash helping to keep our mucus membranes from drying out, in the context of preventing getting sick in the first place. We all know that we should eat more vegetables, but I think nearly everyone doesn't know the details about what they can do for our bodies.

Here the same. Everyone is getting sick. I myself have a cold as well. I'm thinking what I got as a child when I got sick. Mostly it was a simple chicken soup. And in the morning some beschuit . That's a dutch very dry and airy breakfast item. I used to crumble it up and mix it with sugar. When I got sick in Tokyo I remember my host mother asking if I wanted miso soup. I got it with rice in it like a porridge. I would rather have the rice separately.

I just discovered your channel and I absolutely love it! I’ve been LOOKING for something like this! Healthy, yummy, mostly plant based! I love it! It well help me become healthier as I just had my first child, a beautiful baby boy, in May! Your boys are so sweet and I appreciate that you block out their identities and give them the privacy they are entitled to as young children! I wish more people did that! Sending you love and light from Michigan USA!

I've been following you for a long time now but it's the first time I leave a comment.
I just wanted to let you know that I'm always happy when I see a new video from you! I look up to you when it comes to Japanese cooking, and I'm grateful for all the vegan recipes you share. I used to veganize everything that looked tasty, but it was a bit of a hassle. At least now I know I can cook basically anything you share, without changing anything, and I'll like the taste of it. So thank you!
I'll keep on supporting you as you supported me with your videos ♡

Yum. Looks very healthy and I'll try to make this at home. We have a similar thing in the Philippines, we usually make lugaw or 😊Chicken Arroz Caldo when someone is feeling under the weather. It is rice porridge too but no veggies, just some chicken or a boiled egg and the yellow-colored porridge due to turmeric. It has lots of garlic and ginger. Very savory, delicious, and comforting.

Everything I do, and everything that’s happened to me has made me who I am today as a person. Good AND bad. In my older age I am a lot more forgiving and very peaceful. Thank you for sharing your stories.
Now I want pumpkin soup! ❤

@@MiwasJapaneseCooking Today I was clearing out my little garden and I have had poor luck with growing as I have been focused on my cancer recovery, I was very excited to find 3 medium-sized daikon radishes I thought the squirrels ate everything. but these are going in soup tomorrow. to aid in my recovery and immune health. I know it's a lifestyle change and forming better habits. Still, I was so excited to be digging in the dirt and discovering these beautiful gems.

First of all I want to thank you for sharing recepies, but as a student in not an asian country I can't really repeat them because of some products. Also I enjoyed just listening to your like stories about japan society. It's actually very different in europian countries because here everybody says that everybody is special in a different way, etc.
