Yeah, covered in rain is like a part 2 to city love, contrasting lyrical ideas, the first about his love for the city (New York I think maybe Atlanta) and covered in rain was right after 9/11, so it’s obviously got a much different tone
Listening to it more closely with the isolated guitar, at 3:11 the chord progression sounds like the start of yellow by Coldplay. Certainly John’s song writing was influenced by artists of that time and that song/album had just come out too
@@xxxj_nasty3212 Not in terms of his guitar playing and soloing, but he definitely was influenced by mainstream artists during his songwriting. For example, I think his voice sounds a lot like Eddie vedder and Dave Mathews early on, but of course thats just one aspect of his sound/song composition. I'm just making an assumption about him being directly influenced by Coldplay but you have to think that if he was aiming to make mainstream pop songs then surely he would have taken different techniques/ ideas from the artists who had already made it big. I would even go out on a limb and say I hear a little Sting in him in the way that his melody sounds in his singing and I know that he also drew from 80's pop artist's a lot of time since he did (and still does) a lot of covers during his concerts.
@@xxxj_nasty3212 Also I meant to say the scientist not Yellow, which was actually released after room for squares but regardless my point still is the same that I am trying to make
I have loved his music and he is one of the best guitarist. Much better thank you so much! Joe Bonamossa, can't remember how you spell it lol but the first time I saw one of his live videos the solo riffs were amazing I think he was 24-25. Loved him ever since (not like in love) just his music. I DID NOT LIKE THAT HE SAID THE ONE SONG HE DOESN'T LIKE IS "WAITING ON THE WORLD TO CHANGE" THAT PISSED ME OFF. CAN'T SAY I HAVE FORGIVEN HIM FOR THAT BC IT WAS POWERFUL. HE LOST SOME RESPECT AFTER THAT. ESPECIALLY "WHEN YOU TRUST YOUR TELEVISION, WHAT YOU GET IS WHAT YOU GOT, BECAUSE WHEN THEY OWN THE INFORMATION, THEY CAN BEND IT ALL THEY WANT" FAVORITE QUOTE. ESPECIALLY THESE DAYS
Niuqaoj Sotnas I think they were from way back in the day at the start of his career just things he posted online that certain fans kept, otherwise gone forever.
Jonathan Watkins I agree theirs thoughts type of fans who’s had rare versions of certain songs that’s he’s recorded for his website and has played live and fans recorded them
I’m convinced John Mayer runs this account
It makes so much sense when you think about it😂😂like how does this person have such rare recording

The life saver I’ve been looking for the. Demos
this is so incredible... I can never thank you enough!
also interesting the part when he says covered in rain actually has the same chords as 'covered in rain'
