    Lyrics:
    Young and full of running
Tell me where is that taking me
    Just a great figure eight
    Or a tiny infinity
    Love is really nothing
But a dream that keeps waking me
    For all of my trying
    We still end up dying
    How can it be
Dont say a word just come over and lie here with me
Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see
I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe
There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me
So young and full of running
All the way to the edge of desire
    Steady my breathing
    Silently screaming
I have to have you now
    Wired and I'm tired
Think I'll sleep in my clothes on the floor
And maybe this mattress will spin on its axis
    and find me on yours
Don't say a word just come one and lie here with me
Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see
I want you bad I'll go back on things I believe
There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me
Dont say a word just come over and lie here with me
Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see

This is a great song to learn because it also acts as a great exercise. On the one hand its a difficult riff to get down since its pretty involved with a few different techniques that go into it. On the other hand it is very good practice to learn this song and sing over because there is so much going on whilst singing. I am still currently working on it, give it a shot though. Very rewarding when you slowly start to get it down. John Mayer, you are one hell of an inspiration for me and I thank you for it!

    • @MrBrianMandl
      @MrBrianMandl 8 років тому +3

How are you singing this? I mean what's your process to sing complicated pieces along with complicated guitar

    • @manyabhanti9197
      @manyabhanti9197 2 роки тому +1

@@Ash-fm6ym I'm doing this too, and a key aspect is to listen to the song over and over, then slow it down and listen. Get the picking perfect first. Then, you can take one part of the song--in this one, that would be the starting riff on the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th frets. Figure what he's singing there and try to replicate it on only that part while playing along with him. Do this for all the parts, and then try singing and playing without the video. For this particular song tho, the singing actually helps me get better timing on the guitar, even if I can just manage to hum it at the start

There's a certain beauty to this version that I just can't explain. It sounds raw and filled with emotions. As a guitarist, I always pay attention to what John is doing on the guitar, and in this version, he changes the arrangements for several parts AND manages to change the singing rhythm/pacing as well. You can see it simply comes naturally to him, in the sense that he's able to do it with ease after so much practice in his life. Guy is a genius.

if you really think about it the song is a parallel of love and mortality and how they have the same arc. in the same sense falling in love is being reborn and being in love is living and falling out of love is death. the song just so happens to be on the edge of death and the fight to stay alive or rather the fight to stay with the one you love.

    Young and full of running
Tell me where's that taking me?
Just a great figure eight or a tiny infinity
    Love is really nothing
But a dream that keeps waking me
    For all of my trying
    We still end up dying
    How can it be?
Don't say a word, just come over and lie here with me
'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see
I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe
There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me
So young and full of running, all the way to the edge of desire
    Steady my breathing, silently screaming,
"I have to have you now"
    Wired and I'm tired
Think I'll sleep in my clothes on the floor
Maybe this mattress will spin on its axis and find me on yours
Don't say a word, just come over and lie here with me
'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see
I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe
There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me
Don't say a word, just come over and lie here with me
'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see
I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe
There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me

Here I am at 7:09 am on a Monday morning listening to this song with my eyes closed. Screaming internally about a boy who has no idea how much I want him.
“I want you so bad I’ll go back on the things I believe”

God when the last chorus hits and he goes into falsetto and the end of the melody just makes me wish it made it into the studio version with multiple voices. And I also love that this is done a half step down in Ab it seems to really suit his voice as he doesn't have to go as high and Ab. This version is truly incredible.
