We’re seeing a unicorn of a band here. Never again we will see something this unique and tight musically. So glad I had the privilege of seeing them live as many times I did. This band literally changed my life, I’m across the world indirectly/directly because of them. A once in a lifetime group. Incredible.
I'd imagine two main reasons: 1: lyrics - there's nothing wrong with them but they have somewhat limited radio appeal, its not about gangsters, cheating country girls or whiskey 2: mixing - being a 7 piece, with lots of horns, complicated rhythms, the track mixing sounds kind of muddy at times and could be difficult for a mainstream audience to feel the ebb and flow of tracks definitely not trying to be negative, but when answering questions like this I feel its necessary to be objective
1) Too unique and different from the familiar mainstream sound. 2) inconsistent releases. 3) problems with previous record label and no desire to work with a label in the future. 4) not going to sell out/ won't be marketed with sex appeal/ no fashion stuff just music/ little usage of social media. 5) the music industry is falling apart and pushes easily marketable crap and pays off radio stations to play said crap, while less popular good bands are so common that nobody could possibly find and listen to them all.
Zack Van Sant Hey Zack-what a typo...he's not my father, he's my son! Senility is not for the timid😎. My dad who was with Patton's Third Army when they met the Russians at the Elbe River died years ago; and he didn't play bass!.
Peter McCullough You must be incredibly proud of your progeny. He's one of the best in genre filled with amazing bassplayers. He get's over looked, but should be considered up there with the likes of Roger Manganelli, Matt Freeman, Brian Robinson, and Flea.
back in high school, streetlight manifesto got me through some tough times. your son is part of am amazing group that never fails to impress and motivate me to continue my music career.
This could very well be the best live recording of a sky performance ever. Seriously, you listen to the studio version of this and you think "this is so fucking awesome, there's no way anyone could replicate this in real life". And yet here I am, witnessing an even more incredible version performed live.
Let’s not forget the drummer, either. That dude has an uncanny sense of rhythm and an insanely unique, ever-changing style. He’s not quite Danny Carey, but he’s fuckin UP THERE
He’s insanely talented. Few people can navigate a kit with that much precision and adaptation. Everyone in this band is extremely talented, but Chris is a fucking prodigy. (So is Tomas, of course.)
Just saying, I've never heard a better bass player than this guy, its not even that it's on rhythm, its because it's on rhythm and crazy complex. HES NOT EVEN LOOKING AT THE STRINGS!!!! that's how much time he has had a bass guitar in it hands. Über respect man
As a multi-instrumentist myself, I could be watching this perfomance for hours and would still being mindblowing. Bro, they're rushing, they don't miss a single note and brass players got some serious lungs to be able to play all of this. Props to the bass player too, simply exceptional!
Streetlight takes ska punk music to another level. Still got the same energy, but the musicianship is incredible. These guys shred. They also got some kinda Eastern European flavor to them, anyone else hear that? I'm reminded of Gogol Bordello
+ Will Портер, Hi, try to listen Dirty Heads, maybe Sublime, Pepper (NOT Red Hot). Im russian, but i love that music, so we have 1 nice ska-punk group - Distemper. Their most songs are on russian, but some are on english. Try to listen) It's nice to find a kindred spirit)
+Fan Tast Я сам слушаю ска-панк уже длительное время, одна из самых любимых российских групп - spitfire. А из западных streelitght manifeesto, reel big fish, talco, ska-p. :)
yeah, they a very eclectic mix of inspirations... but they actually say that ska itself is a very-very small part of their overall style... there isn't even really a genre that sums up their music... but if i had to make one up i'd classify them as something like "progressive-jazz, post-skacore, grunge-punk, oi-oi, swingcore fusion" xD ... it's good stuff
Most of their influence comes from Eastern-European Gypsy and Ska-Punk, but I'd call them Mariachi-Punk fusion. Which, if that's not a musical trend yet, it should definitely be by now.
thats the face of someone who really enjoys what they are doing, and are putting their soul into it. and his dancing makes this so awesome to watch. streetlight is my fave band ever.
just when you think "This guy is my favourite" one of the others does something brilliant. the last 3 notes of the tenor solo are fucking brilliant, then the bass player was all like "I'm good, give me some airtime!" and totally justified it.
Remember the 2 gals walking past you r beach house balcony in so ocnj ? You were elated becuz YOUR SONG made Spotify - Congrats. Ocnj south side is the best
Just saw these guys in St. Augustine, FL on Sunday. Holy cow…. The energy and sound is crazy. As many have said… I still have no clue how they never were more famous. What a showing
Wow, that was without a doubt pure as the driven snow, pure as the puro, pure as the shit needed to keep up. My respect for these musicians could not be higher.
Saw them and BOTAR at Chicago Theatre a couple weeks ago and damn this song was incredible. He said the name of it and the crowd went nuts, and everyone was singing along, not a single person in the crowd was sitting (although that was true for the whole concert). God I need to see them again
I've seen these guys live 5 times and they're the best live band I've ever seen and I've seen alot of bands live. A couple of the shows the bass player played a standup bass for half the show. It was sick. Easily the most talented band I've ever heard as a group of musicians and it's not even close. Each one of them is a master at their craft. Cant wait till they pump out a new album.
I fucking love this band with all my heart man, Pete the bassist is a damn saint of a bassist, Toh is one of the most consistent vocalists I've ever seen, they play with so much energy, their shows are all perfect. Damn man if there was one band I could listen to forever and nothing else it'd be these
to be honest, 2 years ago i thought this band was mediocre, i started listening more, understanding music with the help of classes. now i believe they are the 7 angels from music heaven
I love this band! and of the many times I have seen then live, i always prefer them on a small stage like this. You can really see the chemistry between them. They are always having so much fun, yet never getting in each others way. They just send out that lets rock out together vibe. Every show I've gone to i have made a new friend. Just some awesome shit these guys create!
this goes out to one of the band members my daughter and i saw at the shore ocnj yelling out his deck i made it on pandora radio - we checked m out they are great
Watched this guys live in a punk and ska festival with bands like Rise Against, Alkaline Trio, Anti Flag, etc. Anyway, they were so amazing, so intense, that i felt in love. Im counting the days to see they live again on Warped Tour.
Fan for years, finally saw them live at warped tour Dallas a whiiiile back. Gexa pavilion (awful acoustic venue) So much energy, it felt like they inhaled all of the air in the park and blew it right in our faces! Gave a stellar performance. Watching them play together is like watching a locomotive at full steam... perfectly in balance, but full of fury.
We’re seeing a unicorn of a band here. Never again we will see something this unique and tight musically. So glad I had the privilege of seeing them live as many times I did. This band literally changed my life, I’m across the world indirectly/directly because of them. A once in a lifetime group. Incredible.
A better place, a better time.
They're going on tour again!
I've always been impressed by how flawless they are live.
2 whole years later and still nobody cares, and they're still touring. lol
@@RapidVidsProductions Hence your comment?
How are these guys not more popular. These guys are so kickass.
Because ska has been dead for forever.
Zak lol, I don’t listen to a lot of ska, but holy shit this band is great
Because 90's skate punk/ska burnt out the genre.
I'd imagine two main reasons:
1: lyrics - there's nothing wrong with them but they have somewhat limited radio appeal, its not about gangsters, cheating country girls or whiskey

R. I. P. Matt Stewart. You were such a force to be reckoned with. ❤
wow I was already having a bad day and I read this, how sad. RIP
R.i.P brother
jesus christ they're going to explode in any moment
***** no they wont because they are actually interesting
ua-cam.com/video/WXGInUeE_Zw/v-deo.html
The bass player, a classically trained jazz musician is my father. Jazz musicians know their instruments...
You dad is one of my favorite bassists and is part of the reason why I always try to improve my playing. Props to him.
Zack Van Sant
Hey Zack-what a typo...he's not my father, he's my son! Senility is not for the timid😎. My dad who was with Patton's Third Army when they met the Russians at the Elbe River died years ago; and he didn't play bass!.

Peter McCullough Well your son is the reason I strive to be a better jazzer and bassist in general.
back in high school, streetlight manifesto got me through some tough times. your son is part of am amazing group that never fails to impress and motivate me to continue my music career.
It would take me 9 monsters and some bath salts to be this pumped to play music with that enthusiasm as the bass sax player
Ikr, his energy makes you wanna get up and wave your arms like spaghetti
Love the energy. Guy cracks me up when he sings his parts.
Baritone 😅
This could very well be the best live recording of a sky performance ever.
Seriously, you listen to the studio version of this and you think "this is so fucking awesome, there's no way anyone could replicate this in real life".
And yet here I am, witnessing an even more incredible version performed live.
Tbf they've always sounded better live for some crazy reason. I know
Not to mention the fact that they played it a lot faster than in the studio recorded version.
Amazing musicians
Yeah, they're crazy tight.
That is some of the sickest trombone playing I've ever seen in my life.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the way these guys are enjoying their own performance? They are always so fun to watch at shows.
Bass player is a fucking champion. Listen for it.
3:18 Holy fuck man
Claptrap Pete McCollough, one of the best and most under rated in the business. Dude is a fucking MONSTER.
Can't forget about Matt Freeman from Rancid
Claptrap 3:17 I came so hard at 3:17!
Let’s not forget the drummer, either. That dude has an uncanny sense of rhythm and an insanely unique, ever-changing style. He’s not quite Danny Carey, but he’s fuckin UP THERE
That's the most insane bass-playing I've seen in a long time
I actually noticed he simplified a few runs on this show.
For real! He’s amazing!
for real. the bassist is such a beast. i think his fingers are made of forged steel
Drummer needs more love, his is so fucking solid at keeping up with everyone else.
+epicwhaleburger I believe they're keeping up with him. cuz hes a drummer
+epicwhaleburger yeah, the drummer is a total bad ass
+epicwhaleburger That is Chris Thatcher and he is one of my favorite drummers.
He’s insanely talented. Few people can navigate a kit with that much precision and adaptation. Everyone in this band is extremely talented, but Chris is a fucking prodigy. (So is Tomas, of course.)
Drummer sets the tempo
jeez.....the group chorus at 3:55 is too perfect
That hook near the end when they all sing "and when we fall, we will fall together" all ways gets me in the best mood
Just saying, I've never heard a better bass player than this guy, its not even that it's on rhythm, its because it's on rhythm and crazy complex. HES NOT EVEN LOOKING AT THE STRINGS!!!! that's how much time he has had a bass guitar in it hands. Über respect man
how is it even possible? they play SO FAST! bunch of legends :)
As a multi-instrumentist myself, I could be watching this perfomance for hours and would still being mindblowing. Bro, they're rushing, they don't miss a single note and brass players got some serious lungs to be able to play all of this. Props to the bass player too, simply exceptional!
This is my first time ever seeing Streetlight Manifesto, didnt think the looked like this. These guys havr the sickest horn solos i've ever heard
RIP Matt Stewart, what an amazing horn player. Gonna miss his energy during the shows!! Fly high
Streetlight takes ska punk music to another level. Still got the same energy, but the musicianship is incredible. These guys shred.
They also got some kinda Eastern European flavor to them, anyone else hear that? I'm reminded of Gogol Bordello

yeah they're insanely good ive seen em.only three times, as far as genre they're arrangement is ska.but I'd.have.to day post-punk jazz
Most of their influence comes from Eastern-European Gypsy and Ska-Punk, but I'd call them Mariachi-Punk fusion. Which, if that's not a musical trend yet, it should definitely be by now.
The Sax solo kills me everytime
It sounds like a guitar at first to me its soo good
They look like they are having so much fun.
Nobody told me that Ricky from Trailer Park Boys moved out of Sunnyvale trailer park and played in the greatest ska punk band ever.
saw these guys they were supporting Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish and these guys really stole the show. Musically way more talented
As a Bari player, all I can say is...wow.
Cecil Palmer Mike brown is the man he is so good
He looks insane lmaoo
This song has been here for 13 years and no one has mentioned how incredibly impressive the drummer during this. He must've been exhausted after this
god i still get chills when toh Kay and Jim belt out "they're coming after all of us with everything they've got" so good
Chris thatcher- how fast do we want to do this one tonight boys
The band - yes 💥
can this bass player be in the front line for the next shows... for ever..
I think this is the best live recording I've ever heard across any genre ever. I can hear everything so clearly even through my shitty job box.
Paying my Respects to Matthew .
RIP
SOMEBODY STOP THEM! This much talent condensed into such a small space might cause a rip in the universe!
best horn section ever
The stamina is unbelievable
The bassist is a hidden god
Rest in peace mathew 💜💜💜💜
This is an extraordinary and life-asserting blend of energy, ardour and skill. I can never stop admiring this music! Thank you and cheers from Russia!

As a trumpet player all I can say is OMG HE IS GREAT!
Holy crap: 3:49 the true power of brass

The trombone part is played so clean it hurts.
ferocious tempo, peak Streetlight
thats the face of someone who really enjoys what they are doing, and are putting their soul into it. and his dancing makes this so awesome to watch. streetlight is my fave band ever.
just when you think "This guy is my favourite" one of the others does something brilliant. the last 3 notes of the tenor solo are fucking brilliant, then the bass player was all like "I'm good, give me some airtime!" and totally justified it.
Discovering Streetlight Manifesto was probably one of the best things that has ever happened to me.
freaking awesome! Mike sure does have some happy feet when he's playing...
The bassist just silently killing it in the back. Jesus christ this band is soooo dope.
the bassist is phenomenal.
Everything about this is perfect, but can we just acknowledge how much of a beast their bass player is? Its truly insane.
Remember the 2 gals walking past you r beach house balcony in so ocnj ? You were elated becuz YOUR SONG made Spotify - Congrats. Ocnj south side is the best
I think you are the trinket player
That Bari player just be vibing
These guys are incredible. They're so tight it looks like they could do this in their sleep.
The bassist is A MONSTER!
Just saw these guys in St. Augustine, FL on Sunday. Holy cow…. The energy and sound is crazy. As many have said… I still have no clue how they never were more famous. What a showing
Rip Mathew Stewart 🫡
Came here to say this. Trumpet playing at his level is no joke. Matt was an absolute beast at his job
It’s a chaotic master piece
That sax solo gives me chills every time.
Wow, that was without a doubt pure as the driven snow, pure as the puro, pure as the shit needed to keep up. My respect for these musicians could not be higher.
That bassist is absolutely tearing it up.
Saw them and BOTAR at Chicago Theatre a couple weeks ago and damn this song was incredible. He said the name of it and the crowd went nuts, and everyone was singing along, not a single person in the crowd was sitting (although that was true for the whole concert). God I need to see them again

Easily the most talented band I've ever heard as a group of musicians and it's not even close. Each one of them is a master at their craft.
Cant wait till they pump out a new album.
I've seen these guys twice at The Chameleon Club. The energy you get from these dudes is so intense
Rest in Peace, Mathew Stewart. 🎺
I fucking love this band with all my heart man, Pete the bassist is a damn saint of a bassist, Toh is one of the most consistent vocalists I've ever seen, they play with so much energy, their shows are all perfect. Damn man if there was one band I could listen to forever and nothing else it'd be these
Holy drums.
ive seen 167 separate artists/bands live and their concert in Edmonton might be the greatest musical experience of my life
They sound perfect live. Really rare especially for a band with this many members.
Now this is why I want to play the saxophone xD
I feel you bro xD sax is the shit!
Nah, trombone....
Bass guitar....
Barry sax man, barry sax.
Hightower489

Incredibly talented musicians, every one of them. Hope we hear even more from them soon!

I will never stop listening to this.
to be honest, 2 years ago i thought this band was mediocre, i started listening more, understanding music with the help of classes. now i believe they are the 7 angels from music heaven
Wish I were there
That was fucking dope! Love this band! So much energy!
Best ska horn section of all time, bar none.

Amazing Bass!!!
This band has a passion unmatched by anyone.
Seeing them on my 18th birthday this year!
There's almost never enough bari... C'MON!!! You're taking away the best instrument from my ears.
I never get tired of watching this!
Saw these guys last night in Mtl.!!!!
This is a song that’s been with me since my childhood and I still adore it. Best band out there!
It is incredible how tight this band plays together
Watched this guys live in a punk and ska festival with bands like Rise Against, Alkaline Trio, Anti Flag, etc. Anyway, they were so amazing, so intense, that i felt in love. Im counting the days to see they live again on Warped Tour.
wow crazy brass
The Trombonist is SICK
I wish I could see these guys live.
You're on every single Streetlight Manifesto video ahaha
can.never.get.enough streetlight!
Their drummer is underrated, man is a fucking beast and never misses a single beat
That bari-sax player has the scariest face. Love it.
Young Streetlight is so fassst
Fan for years, finally saw them live at warped tour Dallas a whiiiile back. Gexa pavilion (awful acoustic venue)
So much energy, it felt like they inhaled all of the air in the park and blew it right in our faces! Gave a stellar performance. Watching them play together is like watching a locomotive at full steam... perfectly in balance, but full of fury.
fuck i LOVE the energy!
