Btw the lead singer Tomas Kalnoky writes all of the lyrics, guitar melodies, and composes the horn melodies. Dude is low-key one of the greatest artists of our generation and only a few people know about it.
Thanks for that information. I think he is a very talanted guy.
Tokay!!!
Crazy shit right !! And the lyrics themselves are already unbeattable
I love Kalnoky, I love Streetlight and Catch, the music kind of defines a style and even a generation (the ska/punk generation) to some degree... but I can't agree that he's one of the greatest artists of our generation. Kind of a one-trick pony. Very good at what he does, but not very versatile, and I feel each progressive album got worse.
And I say this with a real love for the guy and his music.
It's even more incredible when you realize that Tomas went to school for visual art and every single other member is a university trained musician.
Props to whoever suggested this. Brings back lots of memories.
RIGHT! Seen them live 3 times and each time has been a gem.
If only for memories?
You're welcome.
this band's music is like in every memory of my senior year in high school lol
This was high school for me. Class of 05.
god, the recorded version of this song already goes so hard, and they just play it uptempo live for no good reason
what a tight band
Bands always play faster live... The very good reason being is that you can fit more songs into your set. So people get to hear more songs and hopefully their favorite songs
I saw them live opening for Reel Big Fish way back in like 2008. I had no idea who they were. I was gobsmacked. I wish I could go back to that day.
@@solaflairpunk bands always play faster live, other genres not so much
a lot of bands do that if they have a longer set then they have alloted time on stage. or just because they are hype as fuck in the moment XD
"THEY ARE PERFECT" Yes they are my good fellow! This is now the benchmark for how people should respond to SKA music.
haha and Streetlight in general!
@@donalucino7401 that's already how people react to streetlight if they don't hear a horn and close their mind
They’re better then cliche ska (as much as I love it) beyond talented professional musicians playing punk for the fun of it. They’re in a genre all their own, best live shows I’ve ever seen.
Exactly!
There's very few bands in this level..... streetlight and leftover crack.
MORE SKA!!!! Most fun genre of music that may have a message but as a whole doesn't take itself too seriously
Streetlight is kind of in a league of their own tbh. Professional musicians making fantastic music.
People like to hate on ska, but it's definitely something I like to listen to get in a better mood, or play while I'm working. The upbeat tempo just gets me going.
Voodoo Glow Skulls is another ska band that doesn't get enough love
@@jamesedwards8387 100% agree maybe get him to react to shoot the moon as their most new listener friendly song
Pickitup!
@@seanhutt4621 Or Drunk Tank or maybe Bulletproof. Come to think of it most of their songs although some don't have any horns in them. Great band, saw them a few times when they came to Australia in 1997.
A teacher at my high school was the former saxophone player in this band. The band is from New Brunswick New Jersey. Im from jersey. Ive seen them perform at the college I went to. There really good.
You must have gone to the same school as my friend lol
@@sk8thewater I went to piscataway school. The teachers name is Dan Ross
I believe hes back in Streetlight manifesto currently.
@@Channyg4lyfe yeah dan is back in streetlight, not only live but in the studio too. I cannot believe you got taught by Dan fucking ross
@@SkankmundFreud I actually wasnt in his math class but my twin sister and one of her friends were in his math class. Its interesting he didnt talk about it much. But whats interesting my junior someone thta was apart of the piscataway high school newspaper actually wrote a column about him beong Streetlight Manifesto. It actually would have been to do a radio interview him. I did radio at piscataway high school for 4 years. So that would have been cool.
"Streetlight Manifesto", "Less Than Jake", "NOFX", and my personal favorite band "Me First and the Gimme Gimmes"
You nailed my top 3.
"Country Roads" is probably my favorite punk cover ever. Well done with recomend MF+GG
@Sideways G rock so hard is awesome tho
I always dug the bouncing souls also.
Finally got to see Flogging Molly, Streetlight, and Me First last month here in Charleston. Great set.
This band deserves so much more credit than they get. They perfectly time everything and it sounds just beautiful I could listen to all of their songs 10 times over in a row and not get bored of it.
You cant just have the music ,the lyrics are very meaningful, it's your first time you listening to it, google the lyrics, bro, you will understand that what you're listening is a master piece , streetlight manifesto, has very important lyrics and have a meaning to each of their songs, music like this saves people's lives
Yes!!!
"Toe to Toe" and "One Foot on the Gas, One Foot in the Grave" by this group are both absolute bangers
Watch it crash
Never seen Toe to Toe love
Every single song
The best musical group humanity ever offered humanity
My literal favorite band whomever suggested this bless ur heart
Fuck yeah, Streetlight rules. If you're into lyrical analysis then they're right up your alley. With any sort of certainty is a favourite of mine, both the original and the acoustic version by Tomas.
Same!!
"OK, they arw perfect" my exact reaction when I first heard Streelight
damn they played that song fast as hell live.
I AM HERE SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS CONTENT.
Nostalgia! Ska Punk goodness! Made me smile so much hearing this again!
One of the greatest shows you will ever see
Streetlight has got me through some tough times throughout the years. Glad you liked this song.
Fellow Rude Boy or Girl, I absolutely feel you \m/
This one wasnt my recommendation but I did recommend The Three of Us by them and Im here to recommend it again. That one or Everything Went Numb from their first album. Great band! Also thanks for your videos man, keep being dope!
Alright, who introduced him to ska? Lol
It's about time. @Skatune Network next!
Skatunenetwork!!! That dude is criminally underrated! He’s putting in work though!
@@beefshackles they*
Skatune is just...just...insanely talented
I love this reaction!!! Streetlight has been my favorite band for 16 years.
I never thought that anyone would react to Streetlight Manifesto. Wow. Not only that, someone who could appreciate it. Looooove.
I am so happy that my donation have passed through! This band have the best instrumental ever in ska!
Thank you for this good sir.
Planning on sending him any more? Haha
King
They are absolutely wild live. Roughly 2-2 1/2 hours of nonstop chaotic energy. I was in the pit for one of their shows and I was completely exhausted when I got out. They go that hard for the entire show
Fully agree! I've seen them 3 times and it is always like this. Can't wait to see them in Cleveland in a few days!!!
they are STILL the best live show I've ever been to. incredible vibes in the whole venue. THE WALLS WERE ALIVE WITH LOVE!
Saw them last night and they were absolutely amazing, I’ve been to hundreds of concerts, this one was definitely one of the best shows I’ve ever seen
Maybe it's a "ska thing"? Went to a Fishbone show years ago, and I experienced that same vibe. There was this positive energy that filled the place that I have not encountered at any other concert I've attended.
holy shit. never thought i'd see you react to Streetlight! have fun! great live shows.
They’re still the most fun and maybe the best overall live show I’ve been to, multiple times. Not only are they that good and energetic, but they play a solid hour nonstop. Crazy.
so nice to see someone reacting to this band cause its so under the radar love it
I love how Streetlight are so furious in their playing style! Unmatched in their live energy.
One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands! You HAVE to experience them live, IN the pit! One of the best live bands on the planet!
Love the respect you have for them!! They are truly an anomaly in more ways than one. Such an insanely beautiful group.
Yes!! One of my favorite bands. Ska is such a fun genre I hope you give into it. Other songs I'd request by them are Everything Went Numb, A Moment Or Violence, and A Moment of Silence
If you get over Tom's raspy punk voice all of his lyrics hit you right in the life....streeightlight manifesto is my favorite Ska band
The irony is that as Toh Kay he has such a gentle and melodic voice.
@@deitybox yeah, don't get me wrong he has the perfect voice for streetlight but sometimes I am more in the mood for the Toh Kay versions just cuz of how calming his normal singing voice is
@@randylahey3761 and that his songs are such poetry. Another way to appreciate it, dropped down a few bpm lol
Punk and raspy go together. You can't take him out of Streelight.
It's okay, Claudio. Everybody's got their own thing. I love punk style singing myself, but not everybody does.
My favorite band of all time. I've seen them 5 times now.
THANK YOU! One of my favourite of all time.
First five seconds: "They're perfect. Best thing I'll hear today". Cracked me up. Rock on man! Love your channel...
STREETLIGHT HANDS DOWN THE BEST SKA/PUNK BAND!!! So much talent in this band.
You’re absolutely right. They ARE perfect.
As a trumpeter, many moons ago, hitting those notes is amazing. The trumpet guy deserves so many props. Props are good.
Rest in peace Matt the trumpet player….
Much love to whoever got him to listen to Streetlight.
Ska is so much god damn fun. It always puts me in a good mood
I tell people you just can't stay upset when you listen to ska. It gets in your bones
WOW I didn't think I would ever see someone react to this song. Its soooo good!!
I only found these guys a few years ago, and they're absolutely marvelous!
I appreciate your appreciation of this band. A very special talent in the ska world and legendary at this point.
Man, their live performances are crazy fun, but their studio recordings are truly perfect. They put years and years into writing an album and perfecting every little detail of every song and creating complex and nuanced music. Check out literally any song by them, but for a suggestion from my list of favorites, “With Any Sort of Certainty.”
"Okay, they are perfect." I AM SPECIFICALLY HERE FOR THIS SPECIFIC CONTENT
Perfectly timed erratic nature is one of the best descriptions I’ve ever heard for streetlight manifesto
Their musicianship is incredible.
This is the exact content
No! dont stop. the greatest compliment you could give :)
I love how you get startled by the awesomeness of the horns
Seeing them live is AMAZING. I've done it 4 times already. The raw energy of seeing them live is unmatched.
I know I am late to the party for your youtube, but listened to this band forever. Your reaction is awesome, and Mine at first thought. I got my boomer dad hooked on this band.
I used to work in a bike shop and we ricked Streetlight Manifesto a LOT!
Punk has so many awesome side projects, Catch 22 -> Streetlight Manifest -> Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution. Then solo Toh Kay
"Okay, they're perfect." Ten seconds in, and you responded almost exactly as I did when I first heard them. Same song, too (although it was the album version, which is probably slower by about 15%). They have been my favorite band every since, and I saw them live both in Nashville and in Cincinnati. Their energy live, as you saw, is amazing. Also, from what I understand, every single one of them holds a degree in music on their particular instruments. Chris Thatcher, the drummer, is (or at least was) a drumline instructor at a high school for a long while.
Yea I think one of the sax guys taught also.
Best live shows, great energy, and lyrics that are poetry. Favorite band by far as well. Fucking love these guys. Saw a circle dance pit open up to their song once when it was being played as house music between other bands lol
Remember hearing the horn section in the parking lot of the club back in 2003/2004. First time I’d ever seen them. They were just warming up and blew me away. As a sax player in ska bands myself they’ve been a serious inspiration. The other great ska adjacent band would have to be RX Bandits
My favorite band ever, all time! They hit me in the feels with a sledge hammer
Yup. Thank you
Bloody love seeing that MC Lars tshirt, love that guy
They're fantastic humans as well as fantastic musicians
Their live shows are amazing!
OMFG. HUGE STREETLIGHT FAN HERE. huge excitement to see someone react to it…. Thank you!!! Going to watch more of your videos after my SL kick…
Ive never been so happy to be subscribed to your channel then hearing you call this band perfect.
streetlight manifest live at 930 club in washington DC back in 2005 was one of the best shows iver ever seen EVER
Matt R.I.P.🙏🏾
this video brought me back to the first time I ever heard this song & streetlight manifesto. thank you
Yesss. I've been a huge fan of the music you're exploring, seeing you react and recognize one of my all time favorites is awesome. Their library is also just full of gems. Enjoy Sir
I'm seeing them next month... I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS SHOW!! THE PIT WILL BE INTENSE!!
I saw this video and well I became suddenly...giddy. 42 years old and giddy. Perhaps i should sleep, but first, this video! Tom the vocalist/guitarist is an outstanding songwriter.
MY FAVORITE BAND OF ALL FUCKING TIME!!! Thank you for finding them too. SONGS THAT MEAN SOMETHING!! Lyrics with weight. AND THE HORNS!!!!!$
The 3rd wave of ska was amazing. There was so many talented bands all over the place. FUN FACT: Streetlight Manifesto was called 'Catch 22' before they became Streetlight!
Been listening to catch 22 since 2002ish, not many ppl know that.
They became separate bands catch 22 keep doing music but without Thomas wasn't the same
Receiving end of it all that break down still gives me chills every time I listen to it
Streetlight manifesto lyrics are always amazing. Definitely worth checking them out.
I SOMEHOW MISSED THIS REACTION!!! IM SO HAPPY YOU DID THIS!
I was a big fan of these guys when this CD came out, and I had the same reaction as you when I first heard this song. They took what “ska” could be and turned it into something no one could’ve imagined.
Just saw them again last night in Philly. A must see live experience .
I just saw them live for the first time ever last night.... incredible is not enough to say
Streetlight was something I wanted to aspire to be with my band friends. Never happened but I admire them a lot
I love seeing you discover them for the first time!❤
You’re seriously hitting all my favorite bands. Nothing but respect and gratitude. If you want an instrumental check out Riding the Fourth Wave
Love to see a Mighty Mighty Bosstones reaction
Ska was never dead
"Such beautiful chaos." Absolutely well astute way to describe Streetlight Manifesto, kudos to you fine sir, absolutely amazing reaction you made!
The musical talent of the band is so underrated. They are so good!
this is my favorite band. everything you said is 100% correct
This brought a smile to my face big thanks dawg
I saw these guys in Seattle a few years ago and there was so much energy I could barely stand afterward. Best live show I've ever been to, bar none.
By far the best band I’ve ever seen live. The singing isn’t as good when you’re just watching a video, but at a live venue it’s glorious when everyone is singing along
10 seconds in..."they're perfect" hahaha love this. Subbed
I discovered this band 3 years ago and have only grown to like it more and more, both Catch 22, Streetlight Manifesto and the tranquility of simply listening to Toh Kay (it's like to hear him composing)
Personally, if I had to choose, my favorite without a doubt is "Somewhere in the Between"
That song helped and healed me a lot
If you want a real example of Thomas Kalnoky (the singer)'s skills you should check out his acoustic project Toh Kay, Watch it Crash is a great song to show off his technical skill lol
His collaboration with Dan Potthast from MU330 and the Bricks was so good
woah. first person ive ever seen react to Streetlight
i personally also love everything went numb
If you want a clear instrumental only by this band, check out Riding the Fourth Wave
It saddens me that i only learned of streetlight a couple of years ago. I missed out on so many years of their amazing music. Great reaction video, instant subscribe while watching.
I remember the first time I heard Streetlight Manifesto.
My friend beelined for me as I entered class and he handed me headphones and told me to put them on.
Both really into punk.
It was their first album, Everything Goes Numb, first track, same title.
My mind blew within 10 seconds, well before they started singing.
One of my favorite bands, only Bad Religion tops them.
Ayyyy. Super glad you got to listening to these guys! Believe it or not my band director mentioned this band to me, cuz of my predisposition to being a punk and a 90's kid in general, and wound up being one of my favorite bands ever and I constantly go back to. Brings back memories of me screaming every lyric to every song in my car down the back roads in high school. Every song is worth a listen in my eyes. (I know Catch 22 fans will probably bug but...) Their ver. Of Keasby Nights plz🙏
Love me some Streetlight! Great reaction!
The original group Catch 22 is beast as well. Their EP they put out is CLASSIC
My favorite SKA band! Seen them live multiple times, always fun!
I came up listening to mostly metalcore, and hiphop, but this is one of my favorite bands. But my taste are more artist specific than genre. Do you know any bands that sound like this, with this kind of skill level?
I love streetlight but I've never gotten the chance to see em live. Catch 22, their predecessor however I saw live probably 20 times myself growing up in Jersey and catching shows in Philadelphia and they were some of my greatest memories of my youth. The camaraderie at a ska/punk show makes you feel better about being a complete outcast in your day to day life. Punk rock saved my life three times over. I cannot thank bands like this enough.
