@@urbanfarmstead I just bought a plastic 300 gallon stock tank yesterday because of your video getting me thinking about it again. prepping for summer. It gets in the 90s on the regular in late july and August and working out on the farm, a pool feels like a necessity. I am weighing the cost differences in the sand versus filter pumps. Sand pump does seem like a better deal.
I run almost 700 feet of black 1 inch poly hose in my back yard on a fence. Any amount of sun and my pool is hot. May thru August it can get to be 104 degrees by the evening. Peeling the cover back at 10pm can reveal 100 degree water at night. The ticket is the 1 inch outdoor blue Styrofoam underneath. This guys pool will be cool in the evening no matter how hot it gets during the day. Love his setup...just insulate it from the ground which is always cold underneath. You go from tin foil, to a thermos.
Many a time while filling my cattle’s stock tank on hot days I think, wouldn’t it be nice to jump in there. Now you have put yet another project on my to do list.
My nephews wife was looking for kiddie pool last month , but being early April it was hard to find. Plus the blow up pools puncture easily , the little plastic pools break from the weight when trying to dump them. So I went to Tractor Supply Co and bout a poly horse trough a it bigger than a jetted bath tub. The kids love it and it will last a few years.
Great idea...we had one of these when I was the tender age of 7. I'm now 69! Folks in the south with livestock had these things! Cows and horses drank...and an extra one made for a pool! 🤣
Chlorine can have a corrosive effect on aluminum components, but homeowners and swimming pool maintainers are sometimes not aware of this corrosion since the corrosion itself takes on a white or gray color that is easily overlooked. it's not sun screen making the water milky. cheers!
Made a bigger one for the kids in AZ with a bamboo cover shade over it , I sprayed it white with food grade paint and had a filter with a gfi on it to the house, when they got older and liked the better school pool I put a bunch of Walmart fish in it eventually I sold it to a rancher for it original use glad I kept the food grade paint paper off the can
My husband grew up in the 60's playing in one of these. We just got one for our granddaughter. It has a drain plug so we just drain and refill when it gets dirty.
Just a heads-up: too much chlorine will eat away the zinc galvanization and rust will start to show up. Once it does, it’ll spread quickly. We’re preparing to apply a coat of epoxy this week so we can get back in the pool we love and enjoy so much. ✌🏼
Thank you! I know, but still appreciate the info. So far no rust and I do use very little chlorine. That said I have the epoxy paint and will be painting it soon. I’m using the pond liner epoxy. It’s linked in the description. Which are you using?
just fill it up and play in it that's what we did in the 60s. this is not new to make a pool from. it's not as complicated as it seems-fill, play, drain, refill, play, etc.
Add one of these when I was a kid in the 60s. Put it in the yard and fill with water and swim. And I came time to change the water we opened the drain plug and watered the backyard. In the winter time just put down some two before turn it over and let it sit on those.
Yep... Zinc lead tin nickle.... Bury it, & it will rust, even if you paint it ! You'd need a rubber or vinyl liner...leave it above ground and stand plants n shrubs all around it... Trellis way over it...

Depends on your irrigation needs, but instead of using chlorine and a filter, you can just pump the water from the pool into your veggies and then refill the pool with fresh water.
I love look of metal ones but considering the poly ones too. I don’t know if the galvanized metal would leash zinc? Would love to know if anyone researched the metal ones with chemicals too.

@@urbanfarmstead - Excellent point. You'd have to maybe arrange things as a circle. Nothing DEAD center, just a circle of plants near the center, then a bigger circle near the edge. Maybe a decorative statue in the middle or something. I'd still love to try it since it's attractive.

Thank you for sharing your experience
God damn, your poor pump must be tired 😂
@@hubbabubba5177 grundfos circulation pump. You want a very slow circulation. 4 years so far.
Many a time while filling my cattle’s stock tank on hot days I think, wouldn’t it be nice to jump in there. Now you have put yet another project on my to do list.
Haha, yes it’s quite refreshing
Very creative!!
Love a man that's good with his hands!
Thank you
My nephews wife was looking for kiddie pool last month , but being early April it was hard to find. Plus the blow up pools puncture easily , the little plastic pools break from the weight when trying to dump them. So I went to Tractor Supply Co and bout a poly horse trough a it bigger than a jetted bath tub. The kids love it and it will last a few years.
That’s awesome!
Did you put anything in it like chlorine or a pump or just empty it when it got yucky
How can anyone dislike this video?? Its simple and to the point and its awesome!! Good job sir
Adrian Cruz thank you so much! I’ve come to the realization that some people just really enjoy hitting that dislike button.
It's actually very easy. Just move your mouse over the "thumbs down" icon and hit the button.
I can’t wait to build ours! We don’t have $50k to shell out for a typical pool and this is all we need!
Great video. I really enjoyed your process and you’ve really inspired me to do that in my back yard. Can’t wait to show the wife and get her on board.
Thank you
Great idea...we had one of these when I was the tender age of 7. I'm now 69! Folks in the south with livestock had these things! Cows and horses drank...and an extra one made for a pool! 🤣
That’s awesome! Yeah people have been using these as pools for as long as they’ve been used for livestock
Nice truck ❤️ Cool pool 🏊♀️ Bummer we don’t have those kinds of stock tanks in New Zealand I’d be so keen to try this 😉👍
Nayz Anduze that you, thank you! Oh that is a bummer!
That extra gasket blew the whole DYI budget! 😂 love it !!!! Great idea!
Saw the thumbnail and thought “what is mark cuban doing in a stock tank pool?!?” Lol
Jaime Jimenez 😂
Same
Ditto
Did you even read the title?
Cuban wasn't lying in a stock tank....it was a shark tank.
Chlorine can have a corrosive effect on aluminum components, but homeowners and swimming pool maintainers are sometimes not aware of this corrosion since the corrosion itself takes on a white or gray color that is easily overlooked. it's not sun screen making the water milky. cheers!
Thank you for sharing this insight
Thats all you need in life. No fear of doing something
stuart blackwood exactly! 🙌🏼
Great pool addition without dig a hole. Thanks Kyle.
Thanks!
This video is Creative, Inspiring and so well done. Thank you for being so descriptive
PLANTBuilt Mami thank you! I really appreciate your feedback and I’m glad you enjoyed my video!
Thats legit honestly perfect for kids and it'd last forever
I think so too!
I have no intention on building this I just watched it to see you with your shirt off lol. Your wife is lucky
Made a bigger one for the kids in AZ with a bamboo cover shade over it , I sprayed it white with food grade paint and had a filter with a gfi on it to the house, when they got older and liked the better school pool I put a bunch of Walmart fish in it eventually I sold it to a rancher for it original use glad I kept the food grade paint paper off the can
That’s sounds awesome! Thanks for sharing
My husband grew up in the 60's playing in one of these. We just got one for our granddaughter. It has a drain plug so we just drain and refill when it gets dirty.
That’s awesome!
Had one growing up and my kids had one until we bought a house that had a pool
@@denisekoenig9479 awesome!
He made his way too difficult This is nothing new
Awesome. My husband bought similar with plans like this. I was skeptical. Looks like I'll eat my words.
It works great, I think y’all will love it.
Yo that's awesome
How about using bromine instead of chlorine?
@@suzukibn1131 bromine is only for hot water like hot tubs, but thank you, I did look into it
Add one of these when I was a kid in the 60s. Put it in the yard and fill with water and swim. And I came time to change the water we opened the drain plug and watered the backyard. In the winter time just put down some two before turn it over and let it sit on those.
Awesome
This would be great as an in-ground Koi pond, too!
Yes!
When I was a kid (30+ years ago - yikes!) we had a stock tank pool too - which my father later turned into a koi pond. 😂
Isn’t the galvanized metal toxic to koi and other fish?
Yep...
Zinc lead tin nickle....
Bury it, & it will rust,
even if you paint it !
You'd need a rubber or vinyl liner...leave it above ground and stand plants n shrubs all around it...
Trellis way over it...
Never going to be able to do this, but it was interesting to watch you. I see your wife enjoys your labors. 😊
You can do it!
@@urbanfarmstead thanks, probably can once we move where it would be allowed. Hate stupid city zoning restrictions on just about everything. (but not as bad as an HOA) 😁 You really did a nice job.
@@freespirit3891 I hope you can make one soon!
I just did this in my backyard. Great job. I do like the vacuum addition. Could you maybe blog about or break that down a bit more in detail? The steps for that? That would be greatly appreciated.
Nate Brunner Awesome! Thank you! I don’t have a blog but I would be happy to answer any questions about it that you have. Sorry I wasn’t able to illustrate it more thoroughly in this video.
@@urbanfarmstead
Yeah man I need to make one of those vacuums too but don’t really understand it. We have a 6’ stock tank pool and a sand filter pump. Sweet vid dude!! Gotta stay cool.
For anyone interested but with less open space available, you can use one of the oblong tanks and do the same thing. We had one in a very skinny space back in the day.
That’s a great tip, thank you for sharing
Been swimming in these since I can remember. Love this!
Norma Wingo awesome! Thank you
Great content, short and to the point. I’m in the process of building mine so my two daughters can cool off . I need to get the plunger valves then I can assemble. I’m going to add the vacuum that you made too.
Thanks! Some people experience mixed results with the vacuum pump just so you know.
My brother is an electrician and he thinks I’m completely out of my mind for making a pool that’s made out of metal with an electric pump attached. I told him he made a valid point so we are grounding it.
@@dini1046 cool
I'm in Vegas, we actually use an oblong one as an outside bathtub for the dogs.
Can't beat it for the price, in fall I'll be upgrading it to be used as a rinse shower station for the pool next summer.
Really didn't expect it to work so well!
Brings back some memories, our first pool was one of these. Only downside was that you'd scrape your toenails over the bottom and it felt weird to me, would probably put something on the bottom to walk on.
Awesome!
I love it!! Thanks so much! I'd bought an 8 ft. stock tank for my grandkids to play in several years ago out here on our farm, but I never thought of doing all this, so we had to deal with a fair amount of yuck. What a great idea! You give terrific instructions! I think I'll get on it.....the grandkids are grown, but gramps and I are enjoying our second childhood, so it'll work fine, lol! 🙂 🤣😊
P.S. Gramps wants to know where he can get a hot babe to go with the pool?? 🤣🤣😡
Thanks. And thanks for the jokes haha
@@urbanfarmstead You're welcome 😊 Least I could do.
We went out to look at the stock tank, and discovered I was wrong....(now there's a first 🤣🤣).....it's a 12 footer, not 8!! I guess size really does matter, lol!
Gramps says that's ok.....more room for girls, haha!! 🤔🤔🤨
@@julierichens4218 😂
Tell gramps I'm on my way! 🤣🤣 mine is only a 6 footer, so a 12 footer sounds perfect! 😂
When I was a kid we swam in a big tank like this! It was a great pool.
Awesome
That's seriously amazing, I'm completely inspired! Now I'm literally working on upgrading my Intex pool pump well I'm trying at least lol thanks for the inspiration.
Mallory Justice thank you so much! It’s my pleasure to share!
@@davysanders4922 if it was epoxy painted I think it would be okay. Though with the added price of etching and painting, an Intex pool is probably cheaper lol
LOVE this! Thank you for sharing. I have been contemplating doing one of these and hadn't researched it yet and all of a sudden this popped up on my feed. Fate. Thanks again.
Happy to share! Thanks! It works great!
Very nice, one could even stock that with fish. Take a bow 🙇♂️
I was thinking same 😂
had this as a kid with my 2 sibilings, keeps the water really cool
Nice!
Hell, everybody in Missourri does this! Infact my friend has one made out of that hard plastic you can buy now at tractor supply.
Awesome!
I don't want a pool, but I have been looking for a small sand filter for our well water. What you show looks promising.
This pump has worked great for me here. I have a link to it in the video description if you’re interested.
You never fail to amaze me, your creativity is off the charts.
As usual, GREAT JOB!!
Mad Lad thank you so much! I can’t take credit for the overall idea, but I certainly used a few original ideas with my design.
It's a container with water in it....
OMG!! We had a stock tank "swimming pool" when we were kids....that's been at least 55 years ago!!
Dude, awesome video! Great information presented clearly and concisely with excellent filming and editing. New subscriber!!!👍
The Upside of Downsizing thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
You are a genius! I love this idea and how smart you are ! Thank you so much!!!!
Well thank you
Depends on your irrigation needs, but instead of using chlorine and a filter, you can just pump the water from the pool into your veggies and then refill the pool with fresh water.
Yes, you certainly could
This is true but it'll be much colder
We got a polyurethane stock pond pool for our grandsons last year. Much better than most blow up or walled pool assemblies.
That’s awesome! Those seem great!
I love look of metal ones but considering the poly ones too. I don’t know if the galvanized metal would leash zinc? Would love to know if anyone researched the metal ones with chemicals too.
We had a stock tank pool growing up in the 90's, Dad still has it.

VERY impressive skills you got there! Love the pool and I'd imagine your household LOVES to get cooled off in it!
Thank you
That's actually a great item for a raised bed.
Chaplin these tanks do work great for raised beds, and I know someone who made one with a large one like this but i think this size is too large because it’s difficult to reach into the center.
@@urbanfarmstead - Excellent point. You'd have to maybe arrange things as a circle. Nothing DEAD center, just a circle of plants near the center, then a bigger circle near the edge. Maybe a decorative statue in the middle or something. I'd still love to try it since it's attractive.
Chaplin yes! Maybe something to attract bees or other pollinators in the center, like a water fountain, a bee hive, or just a bunch of native flowers.
@@urbanfarmstead ooh good call!

Very cool. The vacuum wand is brilliant use of scientific properties! Maybe add foam pipe insulation around the rim to make it safer should one come down on it. ( kids )
