Just finished tarping our Hunter 30. Your tips were invaluable, especially the roll & clamp. Thank you!

Hi Sara, going through this now with a Pearson 30. Welcome any lessons learned and where you bought your tarp, supplies used. Thanks either way. Stay well. Tim

I have a 44' ketch rigged sailboat-- who has a 13' beam-- what size CANVAS TARP would i need to create a Shrink WRAP frame above deck in order to allow for some overhang? I have teak decks and I wanted to work on them this winter UNDER the TARP... Appreciate the advice on advance since you seem to be the TARPOLOGIST... ;) Ha... Skipper T

Hi, thanks for this, informative. I will likely be stepped down this winter (WI) but the rest is applicable. What thickness/quality tarp are you using? My boat is only 16' (Capri) and on the trailer in my driveway so I'll have eyes on it daily.
    Thanks
    Carl

Have you seen my latest video on making a tarp frame?
The tarp should be of the best quality you can afford and be about 50% longer and wider. A 16-foot boat with a five-foot beam should have a 24 x 8 tarp. Please remember the factory installed grommets probably won't do the job as they will tear off. Be prepared to buy some of the other grommets shown in the video.
      I hope this helps.

      Hi,
I don't think I'm going to find a 24x8 tarp, by the time you pass 20L, I think the width typically steps up to 16. Obviously, I could cut it but then I need to sew in a reinforced hem or could fold in half but at that point, I suspect the aftermarket grommets would not accommodate thickness.

Well according to the video, and this is NOT for shrink wrap, it should be 200% of your beam and 160% of your length. In your case that would be about 25 for the beam and less than 70 for the LOA. As far as the frame, watch my video on how to build a frame:

    and secret tarp hacks:

    I hope this helps.

Shrink Wrap, never going back to tarps. I order a roll, sometimes split the cost with friends so we order more and get a better discount, I have an inexpensive roofing torch. Not hard to do.
