The only problem with Japan is they do not want to let go of their traditional thinking, this can be seen in any sector. This leads to older people thinking they are always right and in turn ruins it for everyone in the end. This mentality should change soon or it sounds trouble.
You have a good point. In Japan they call it the escalator system, which basically mean that if you just stand still and don't rock the boat, you will be promoted eventually. This is further fuelled by the fact that it is incredibly hard to fire people in Japan. However, companies are waking up and are reshuffling their sometimes incompetent leadership. Also, worth noting is that companies like Toyota might be lagging behind in some sectors, but they are still the world's most successful car company in history.
Let’s not forget that it was not Tesla, but TOYOTA who pioneered the hybrid initially. It was Toyota who demonstrated that hybrids could actually work, and it was Toyota who actually made the hybrid sell well. Tesla may have made the first EV that caught the public eye, but they did not make it truly popular in the market. Otherwise, Tesla would have been one of the most popular cars in America, but they’re not even close. It was also Toyota who pioneered hydrogen fuel cell technology. Toyota is doing all of these things and is still being innovative in the market, but they’re also not being stupid either. They didn’t survive all this time by just hopping on the trends of their competitors. Toyota knows better. They didn’t hop on the EV bandwagon because they knew it wasn’t going to be a great seller in the market, and they were right. The world isn’t ready for EVs yet, and EVs sure as hell aren’t ready for the world yet either. They will be in time, but that time is not now. As a side note, we should be putting more investment and effort into figuring out efuels so we can get the existing billions of cars on the road to a carbon neutral state (or at least close to it)
Here is why Japan won't catch up to China in EV: 1) The ship has sailed. The tech gap between China and Japan in EV is very wide. It is very hard to catch up to incumbent tech leader without disruptive tech. 2) One of the easiest way to catch up is of course by having price war. That what the Japanese did to rise against north american and european competitors in the 70s and 80s. But they can't be seriously trying to compete with China on price right? 3) So how did China manufacture EV so cheap? Bleeding edge manufacturing tech with industrial AI, integrated supply chain, best logistic in the world. This is crossing many industries and gov sectors. China is the best at this game, I don't see anyone right now can catch up on this. 4) While catching up is not entirely impossible, this last reason is the nail in the coffin for Japan: People. Japan's ageing population and rigid culture prevented it from leading all new tech breakthroughs. Japan has no leading internet company, Japan has no leading com tech manufacturer that produces next gen comm equipment, Japan has no leading AI company, etc. Without people hungry for success, the gov will make conservative decision, the company will just keep employing the old, and the young will be delinquent or disillusioned. In conclusion, don't bet on Japanese car manufacturer in the future. Japan will be excelling on niche products or parts that goes on to cars and various tech. It can no longer create or push new tech. Its allies are all declining colonial power and it fails to compete in global south market when China is competing. It cannot sell its high tech product to China, but its allies has no manufacturing base to use its industrial products. Coupled with its shrinking national power, population and economy....Japan is in a very bad place.
the reason china can reach low prices is because alot of their material processing are byproduct of other industries... Japan tried many years ago to build a battery supply chain with Australia and they never manage to breakeven on that venture even after decade of investment.
@@lagrangewei Japan in general just fails in many overseas projects. They are not capable of building simple infrastructure overseas anymore let alone build an entire industry. Many of their infrastructure projects like railways and airports ends up with huge delays, cost overun, and recently those projects either got cancelled or taken over by China.
I don't agree with point 1, car consumers are one of the most conservative lot, Japanese car brand still command a lot of value. But they need to fix their gap fast, because once BYD, Cherry become household names, it's bye-bye Toyota, Honda. Toyota has been investing in interesting tech such as solid state batteries, so they can catch up quickly if they think it's the way to the future. But the current BEV market meltdown might make them complacent and loose the momentum.

BYD is cheap (€25,000 in Europe) and they managed to pass EuroNCAP, so they're probably safe enough. In Vienna, there are chargers built into lamp posts on the streets. I live in an apartment, no place to charge here. I've been waiting 2 years for a new Prius, hope to have it in September. I've heard that US-built Toyota hybrids aren't as good as the Japanese-built ones, so i was reluctant to settle for one of those.

No doubt EV is the future. I have an EV and gas guzzler 4x4 at home. Both cars were bought brand new in the less than 9 months ago. Those people who said EV is not the future never driven let alone own one. The EV saves me a lot of time every week by not detouring and lining up on gas station. Just plug it in whenever I don't use the car and I have a fully charged car most of the time. Of course there are few occasions EV is simply not adequate for now i.e. 4wd and towing hence I have the 4x4. But for vast majority of car transport, it's more than adequate and much more convenient.
@@konichivalue Having the ability to charge at home makes owning EV much easier. If you cannot plug in your EV at home then the only other choice is a public charger. It will make owning an EV harder but not impossible. My brother has EV and is unable to charge at home so he only relies on public chargers around him. In his case It has been two years since he switched his only car to EV and he has no plan to go back to the ICE car. The EV is simply a better car to drive, more comfortable, so effortless in acceleration and much cheaper than paying for petrol.

I saw a report on how Japan's charging infrastructure is killing EV sales. What little infrastructure they have is dwindling because some of the charging companies have gone bankrupt. Chargers aren't being maintained so an EV owner's range is severely limited.

It is the future in long term. By 2030, most (90%) of the vehicle sales will be Electric, Without any government subsidy or mandate. This is simply because EV will be cheeper than similar ICE cars (although operational cost of EV is already far less than fuel cost, but by 2030 even the upfront cost will be less than ICE) BTW, In China cost of EV is hardly 10% expensive than similar ICE cars. Of course cost of EV in rest of the world is much heigher, this is because of high tarrifs or poor local supply chain. EV will hut price parity in China very soon (2 years max). Hitting price parity in USA will require few more years, although it will happen before 2030. 2nd, There will be no range anxity. Because even today there are cars available mainly in China that can charge upto 80% within 10mins (Li Mega for example) By 2030, this ultra fast charging will be Mainstream around the world and the charging speed will even improve further by then. And 10min charging time is good enough. Because after driving 300kms you will anyways stop for 10min to pee and refreshment. And till to get back from Toilet your car gets additional 300km range. Drive next 300km and then repeat the cycle. 💥 This is the reason EV is the future even without any government incentive or mandate. Yes in short term government incentive is helping them, but they will be compatative on their own By 2030.
It depends on the battery technology, like all tech, it get's better over time, so in the next 5 to 10 years they can make batteries cheaper, better range and faster charge, I don't see why EV is not the future.
I think the next wave is coming. The lowest EV now is $AUD35k. With Tesla about to launch the 2, cars like the seagull lurking, and ever newer batteries coming onto the scene, it is easy to see that this time next year it will be $AUD25k for a decent EV. Then, where will Toyota be? And, the resale value of the mild hybrid car bought today will also plummet...
Japan knows a thing or two about making cars and how impractical pure BEVs are.. If Japan needs to save its future then it's big carmakers needs to stay away from pure electric vehicles. They should either go for hybrid or Ammonia or some other alternative fuel rather than battery.

Who in their right mind would want to buy a 2nd hand EV, knowing it will be out of date within 3 years from new? EV makers are bringing out these bland cars with up to date batteries every year, thus the older models of 2 or 3 years back are half as good, battery wise! I wouldn't want to buy a 50kw car that becomes a 150kw within 2 or 3 years, so where is the 2nd hand market? If there is one, then it's just the battery you are buying, because the car itself is worthless! You buy a 4 year old EV, have 3 or 4 years left before it's a useless battery, unless you want to keep charging it every day to drove 50 miles! Then you have the nasty expense of buying a new battery! If an EV cost say £40k, the battery £20k (when needed) and I 'bought' a 4 year old 2nd hand EV, I'd expect the seller to be paying me £10k to take it of their hands, not me paying them!

IMHo japan has one of the most advanced extremely environmentally friendly Electric Vehicle system ever too bad they don't run on rubber wheels and use overhead wires instead of batteries that most people don't think of them as EV's. The US is a car culture. Few would want to be packed like sardines into a tin can as they do in Japan. Also, public transit is very different for the Japanese than it is for Americans. Their buses and trains are safe, whereas, ours are packed with homeless, mentally ill, thugs, and other gangbangers. In L.A., people are being assaulted and killed while using public transit, or while waiting on train platforms, or bus stops. It's a huge issue.
People around the world still like and want Japanese cars, especially the so-called JDM. Therefore, the World of EVs still needs Japanese EVs to make EVs highest popular globally. Yes, Japanese cars are very popular. People will continue to buy Japanese ICE cars and hybrids...until they can't. Take the state of California for example (it's in the US if you're not American), by 2035, all new cars must be zero emission. California is very lucrative market for car makers since it is the state with the most registered autos in the US.

Meh, they'll be fine. Just because people are buying cheap Chinese EVs now does not mean every Chinese EV maker will be successful in the long run. Just take the example of Xiaomi and mobile phone sales. Xiaomi entered India (my country) and briefly became no. 1 in some quarters in the past, overtaking Samsung. They achieved that by purposely selling phones for very cheap. Not because they wanted to, but they wanted to kill the competitors. Asus smartphones, Sony smartphones, and other Chinese brands like Meizu -- all exited India after a few years. But Xiaomi were making losses for many years and knew that they couldn't go on like this. So they began raising prices in India. Result? They're now in 4th place and sales are down significantly, and Samsung is back to the no. 1 spot. Even Apple is gaining marketshare in India despite higher prices. That's the thing about Chinese brands. Many buy them only because they're cheap. Not because the quality is amazing or the longterm reliability is excellent. And that's where Japanese brands are different. The one thing Japanese brands are known for is RELIABILITY. There's no shortage of exploding EV footage out of China. There's no shortage of data show how badly EVs lose value in the second hand resale market in a short period of time. Toyota and Honda are not short-sighted. Eventually consumers will realize the downsides to current EV technology and the longterm quality of Chinese cars. Not to mention the fact China's primary source of electricity to power all their EVs is still COAL! Next imagine how China is going to recycle all those EV batteries. The Japanese car brands are not going anywhere.
You have a very good point, and might be right, but cars are a different beast to phones. For ICE cars, successful companies have incrementally improved over decades and new competitors have no chance except for niche areas. Chinese companies have the upper hand in this strategy as they've been fully on board on EVs for the longest (except Tesla), so their tech should be better than most competitors. It could be that EVs don't follow the same rules as ICE cars and Japanese makers can jump in when they consider the tech to be ready, but I have a hunch they can't...

While a Prius for instance is impressive and useful, I don't think we can say this in a black and white fashion. My take: BEVs can be used where they meet the requirements of the drivers, which can be vastly different. When they don't fit, hybrids are useful. Little personal story: A hybrid helped me making my mind up, now I drive a BEV. Why is that? I drove a plug-in hybrid for 3 weeks as a company car. I noticed the extreme difference in driving pleasure and softness when the battery was empty and the petrol engine was kicking in. So I explored the possibilities, made an Excel sheet with specs and compared them against my needs. Then I rented a BEV for 10 days and drove 2500 km in it, to experience what it's like to make charging stops and if I'm fine with integrating them into my drives. Turned out it was fine for me.

Car making countries like Japan doesnt want to held hostage by China because of battery supplies. Tbh no other countries wanted to be in that situation. The charging infrastructure is undesireable compared to the gas pump. It takes time to charge up an EV. Next thing is price. If everything about the EV cost more, there will be a slow adoption for sure. For Japan they are not worried at all and their focus is on other energy resources.Very often people do not look at the waste problem until it becomes a major problem. Battery waste cannot be ignored. Building an EV charging infrastructure and battery recycling should be done together. Otherwise countries will be relying on China to solve their battery waste problems in the future.

The advantages of SSB: (1) does not catch fire (2) 15 min charge time (3) higher driving range (4) operate at lower temperature (4) longer life (5) smaller and lighter. Toyota's major competitors are 2 US companies QuantumScape(VW is sponsor) and Solid Power(Ford and BMW are sponsors). Once SSB are commercerized, EV sale will surge. All global car manufacturers are expected to stop making gasoline cars before 2035.
I believe it when I see it. Toyota has consistently pushed back their target date for SSBs and are now saying that they will first only release them in their most luxurious vehicles as they will be far more complex and expensive to produce. We will likely see SSB being the preferred technology in the future, but definitely not in any mass produced vehicles by 2027

I don't think EV infrastructure would work. This is the REALITY. 1. Takes a lot of time to charge. 2. The electricity from the EV still comes from Fossil Fuel (hidden from the masses). 3. The batteries are still an environmental hazzard (hidden from the masses). The batteries themselves are sometimes as expensive as the motor and it lasts shorter. 4. The batteries does not store enough power so it can travel equal to or farther than a petrol/diesel vehicle. 5. If there is a battery leak, the fire is UNSTOPABBLE.... way more dangerous than fuel. 6. Related to number 4, the batteries doesn't hold electricity as efficient as petrol/diesel. It degrades faster.. it also adds another layer of electricity transition from electric station to battery. Therefore, resulting to more energy wasted. Very unpredictable range.. you don't know when you are going to run out of power (not confidence inspiring). 7. The electric engines are still not that efficient. The efficiency is still the same as far as electric motor 100 years ago. There's no really ground breaking technology introduced here. It's still the same electric motor principle being applied. 8. Electric vehicles are much expensive (not sure why, maybe it's aritificially made expensive because it seems "new".. even though the manufacturing is way way simpler than combustion engine.). To prove all of this let me ask. Is there an electric vehicle that is as efficient as a petrol/diesel engine and loads fuel as fast. The answer is NO. If there is, it has compromises. Eletric vehicles are best on the "personal" transportation category. Like e-scooters, electric skateboards, monowheels, E-bikes... etc.. It simply can't compete with the Big Boys.

I am on your side, but I'm still wondering if we have had any successful product with this muchhelp to make people purchase them? Sure, the government subsidized roads for the first gas cars, but people were fighting tooth and nail to buy them! Victor, you are missing the point. Japanese cars only truly matter to Japanese car enthusiasts and the Japanese people. Out of the world population of 7.8 billion the Japanese car fanbase is truly minuscule indeed. You have a good point. In Japan they call it the escalator system, which basically mean that if you just stand still and don't rock the boat, you will be promoted eventually. Let’s not forget that it was not Tesla, but TOYOTA who pioneered the hybrid initially. It was Toyota who demonstrated that hybrids could actually work, and it was Toyota who actually made the hybrid sell well. Tesla may have made the first EV that caught the public eye, but they did not make it truly popular in the market. Otherwise, Tesla would have been one of the most popular cars in America, but they’re not even close. It was also Toyota who pioneered hydrogen fuel cell technology. Toyota is doing all of these things and is still being innovative in the market, but they’re also not being stupid either. They didn’t survive all this time by just hopping on the trends of their competitors. Toyota knows better. They didn’t hop on the EV bandwagon because they knew it wasn’t going to be a great seller in the market, and they were right. The world isn’t ready for EVs yet, and EVs sure as hell aren’t ready for the world yet either. They will be in time, but that time is not now. As a side note, we should be putting more investment and effort into figuring out efuels so we can get the existing billions of cars on the road to a carbon neutral state (or at least close to it)
Here is why Japan won't catch up to China in EV:
1) The ship has sailed. The tech gap between China and Japan in EV is very wide. It is very hard to catch up to incumbent tech leader without disruptive tech.
2) One of the easiest way to catch up is of course by having price war. That what the Japanese did to rise against north american and european competitors in the 70s and 80s. But they can't be seriously trying to compete with China on price right?
3) So how did China manufacture EV so cheap? Bleeding edge manufacturing tech with industrial AI, integrated supply chain, best logistic in the world. This is crossing many industries and gov sectors. China is the best at this game, I don't see anyone right now can catch up on this.
4) While catching up is not entirely impossible, this last reason is the nail in the coffin for Japan: People. Japan's ageing population and rigid culture prevented it from leading all new tech breakthroughs. Japan has no leading internet company, Japan has no leading com tech manufacturer that produces next gen comm equipment, Japan has no leading AI company, etc. Without people hungry for success, the gov will make conservative decision, the company will just keep employing the old, and the young will be delinquent or disillusioned.
In conclusion, don't bet on Japanese car manufacturer in the future. Japan will be excelling on niche products or parts that goes on to cars and various tech. It can no longer create or push new tech. Its allies are all declining colonial power and it fails to compete in global south market when China is competing. It cannot sell its high tech product to China, but its allies has no manufacturing base to use its industrial products. Coupled with its shrinking national power, population and economy....Japan is in a very bad place.
the reason china can reach low prices is because alot of their material processing are byproduct of other industries... Japan tried many years ago to build a battery supply chain with Australia and they never manage to breakeven on that venture even after decade of investment.

But they need to fix their gap fast, because once BYD, Cherry become household names, it's bye-bye Toyota, Honda. I have to correct you here, Japan not building EV has nothing to do with them being early adopter of hybrid, if it is just due to entenchment, why would they invest more on hydrogen which is even further away from their technology base?
the real reason why Japan does not invest in EV is 3 reason:
1stly, Japan cannot make money out of EV because the bulk of EV cost is in batteries and Japan just doesn't have the material to make them in japan, they have to be imported at great cost. Tesla literally FLIES it battery material from China to US, because the material breakdown quickly if not processed into a battery, so they can't even ship it by boat! Japan just don't want to do that.
2ndly, EV requires less precision parts which mean alot of suppliers would be out of the job, you can't just turn mechanical engineers into chemical engineers to make batteries.
3rdly, EV use electricity and Japan does not have energy independence. it is far easier to import oil than it is to import electricity. to install charging station in rest station is not a difficult thing, Japan real reason for not doing so is because they really don't want to add to their electricity consumption after recovering from fukushima that has dented their nuclear power output.
in short, EV are not something Japan can be strong at, their decision is not a mistake but and understanding of their national weakness in which EV would neither bring profit nor job and would not really address their energy shortage problem. they would have to fix their energy grid way before they can consider EV.

BYD is cheap (€25,000 in Europe) and they managed to pass EuroNCAP, so they're probably safe enough. In Vienna, there are chargers built into lamp posts on the streets. I live in an apartment, no place to charge here. I've been waiting 2 years for a new Prius, hope to have it in September. I've heard that US-built Toyota hybrids aren't as good as the Japanese-built ones, so i was reluctant to settle for one of those.

No doubt EV is the future. I have an EV and gas guzzler 4x4 at home. Both cars were bought brand new in the less than 9 months ago. Those people who said EV is not the future never driven let alone own one.
The EV saves me a lot of time every week by not detouring and lining up on gas station. Just plug it in whenever I don't use the car and I have a fully charged car most of the time.
Of course there are few occasions EV is simply not adequate for now i.e. 4wd and towing hence I have the 4x4. But for vast majority of car transport, it's more than adequate and much more convenient.

@@konichivalue Having the ability to charge at home makes owning EV much easier. If you cannot plug in your EV at home then the only other choice is a public charger. It will make owning an EV harder but not impossible. My brother has EV and is unable to charge at home so he only relies on public chargers around him. In his case It has been two years since he switched his only car to EV and he has no plan to go back to the ICE car. The EV is simply a better car to drive, more comfortable, so effortless in acceleration and much cheaper than paying for petrol.

I saw a report on how Japan's charging infrastructure is killing EV sales. What little infrastructure they have is dwindling because some of the charging companies have gone bankrupt. Chargers aren't being maintained so an EV owner's range is severely limited.

Second hand car market is driven by necessity, most people can't afford a new car and only have a couple of 1000 to spend. For this reason the 2nd hand EV market will be very busy for years to come. I swear every single argument people try to use against EV's applies to Gas cars even more so.

IMHo japan has one of the most advanced extremely environmentally friendly Electric Vehicle system ever too bad they don't run on rubber wheels and use overhead wires instead of batteries that most people don't think of them as EV's. The US is a car culture. Few would want to be packed like sardines into a tin can as they do in Japan. Also, public transit is very different for the Japanese than it is for Americans. Their buses and trains are safe, whereas, ours are packed with homeless, mentally ill, thugs, and other gangbangers. In L.A., people are being assaulted and killed while using public transit, or while waiting on train platforms, or bus stops. It's a huge issue.
People around the world still like and want Japanese cars, especially the so-called JDM. Therefore, the World of EVs still needs Japanese EVs to make EVs highest popular globally. Japanese automakers knows this point well. So they can choose to not produce EVs. They can choose to produce only fuel cars and mild-hybrid cars as before. Meh, they'll be fine. Just because people are buying cheap Chinese EVs now does not mean every Chinese EV maker will be successful in the long run. Just take the example of Xiaomi and mobile phone sales. Xiaomi entered India (my country) and briefly became no. 1 in some quarters in the past, overtaking Samsung. They achieved that by purposely selling phones for very cheap. Not because they wanted to, but they wanted to kill the competitors. Asus smartphones, Sony smartphones, and other Chinese brands like Meizu -- all exited India after a few years. But Xiaomi were making losses for many years and knew that they couldn't go on like this.
So they began raising prices in India. Result? They're now in 4th place and sales are down significantly, and Samsung is back to the no. 1 spot. Even Apple is gaining marketshare in India despite higher prices. That's the thing about Chinese brands. Many buy them only because they're cheap. Not because the quality is amazing or the longterm reliability is excellent.
And that's where Japanese brands are different. The one thing Japanese brands are known for is RELIABILITY. There's no shortage of exploding EV footage out of China. There's no shortage of data show how badly EVs lose value in the second hand resale market in a short period of time. Toyota and Honda are not short-sighted. Eventually consumers will realize the downsides to current EV technology and the longterm quality of Chinese cars. Not to mention the fact China's primary source of electricity to power all their EVs is still COAL! Next imagine how China is going to recycle all those EV batteries.

You have a very good point, and might be right, but cars are a different beast to phones. For ICE cars, successful companies have incrementally improved over decades and new competitors have no chance except for niche areas. Chinese companies have the upper hand in this strategy as they've been fully on board on EVs for the longest (except Tesla), so their tech should be better than most competitors. It could be that EVs don't follow the same rules as ICE cars and Japanese makers can jump in when they consider the tech to be ready, but I have a hunch they can't...

While a Prius for instance is impressive and useful, I don't think we can say this in a black and white fashion.
My take:
BEVs can be used where they meet the requirements of the drivers, which can be vastly different. When they don't fit, hybrids are useful.
Little personal story: A hybrid helped me making my mind up, now I drive a BEV. Why is that? I drove a plug-in hybrid for 3 weeks as a company car. I noticed the extreme difference in driving pleasure and softness when the battery was empty and the petrol engine was kicking in. So I explored the possibilities, made an Excel sheet with specs and compared them against my needs. Then I rented a BEV for 10 days and drove 2500 km in it, to experience what it's like to make charging stops and if I'm fine with integrating them into my drives. Turned out it was fine for me.
China has the upper hand because of their abundant nateral resources of battery making materials like lithium and cobalt. Car making countries like Japan doesnt want to held hostage by China because of battery supplies. Tbh no other countries wanted to be in that situation. The charging infrastructure is undesireable compared to the gas pump. It takes time to charge up an EV. Next thing is price. If everything about the EV cost more, there will be a slow adoption for sure. For Japan they are not worried at all and their focus is on other energy resources.Very often people do not look at the waste problem until it becomes a major problem. Battery waste cannot be ignored. Building an EV charging infrastructure and battery recycling should be done together. Otherwise countries will be relying on China to solve their battery waste problems in the future.
And yet, the Japanese plug-in hybrids use lithium batteries. So...

The advantages of SSB: (1) does not catch fire (2) 15 min charge time (3) higher driving range (4) operate at lower temperature (4) longer life (5) smaller and lighter. Toyota's major competitors are 2 US companies QuantumScape(VW is sponsor) and Solid Power(Ford and BMW are sponsors). Once SSB are commercerized, EV sale will surge. All global car manufacturers are expected to stop making gasoline cars before 2035.
I believe it when I see it. Toyota has consistently pushed back their target date for SSBs and are now saying that they will first only release them in their most luxurious vehicles as they will be far more complex and expensive to produce. We will likely see SSB being the preferred technology in the future, but definitely not in any mass produced vehicles by 2027

I don't think EV infrastructure would work. This is the REALITY.
1. Takes a lot of time to charge.
2. The electricity from the EV still comes from Fossil Fuel (hidden from the masses).
3. The batteries are still an environmental hazzard (hidden from the masses). The batteries themselves are sometimes as expensive as the motor and it lasts shorter.
4. The batteries does not store enough power so it can travel equal to or farther than a petrol/diesel vehicle.
5. If there is a battery leak, the fire is UNSTOPABBLE.... way more dangerous than fuel.
6. Related to number 4, the batteries doesn't hold electricity as efficient as petrol/diesel. It degrades faster.. it also adds another layer of electricity transition from electric station to battery. Therefore, resulting to more energy wasted. 7. The electric engines are still not that efficient. The efficiency is still the same as far as electric motor 100 years ago. There's no really ground breaking technology introduced here. It's still the same electric motor principle being applied.
8. Electric vehicles are much expensive (not sure why, maybe it's aritificially made expensive because it seems "new".. even though the manufacturing is way way simpler than combustion engine.).
To prove all of this let me ask. Is there an electric vehicle that is as efficient as a petrol/diesel engine and loads fuel as fast. The answer is NO. If there is, it has compromises.
Eletric vehicles are best on the "personal" transportation category. Like e-scooters, electric skateboards, monowheels, E-bikes... etc..
It simply can't compete with the Big Boys.

Because even today there are cars available mainly in China that can charge upto 80% within 10mins (Li Mega for example)
By 2030, this ultra fast charging will be Mainstream around the world and the charging speed will even improve further by then.
And 10min charging time is good enough.
Because after driving 300kms you will anyways stop for 10min to pee and refreshment.
And till to get back from Toilet your car gets additional 300km range.
Drive next 300km and then repeat the cycle.

Everyone of those people who live in those small cramped apartments in cities use an EV to get to work or get around town everyday anyways. I am on your side, but I'm still wondering if we have had any successful product with this muchhelp to make people purchase them? Sure, the government subsidized roads for the first gas cars, but people were fighting tooth and nail to buy them! Same with basically any household goods today, including smartphones, dishwashers, electric bikes etc etc. But with EVs, most people are not excited at all, unless you dangle a massive carrot in front of it

Frankly i hope they do, i live in Singapore where car owners usually buy a new car every 10 years because we have a cap on how many cars can be on the road at all times so we need to bid for a certificate to entitle us to own and drive one and my family has always bought and driven a Japanese car ever since i can remember, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, and now a Mazda, they've always been super reliable, comfortable and affordable relative to other cars. Japanese car brands deserve to be the most successful in the world, and I hope they can defend their spot in general and also challenge the soulless wannabe ev brands from China that are flooding the market.

Victor, you are missing the point. Japanese cars only truly matter to Japanese car enthusiasts and the Japanese people. Out of the world population of 7.8 billion the Japanese car fanbase is truly minuscule indeed.
Most people around the world will simply opt for whatever is most economically efficient and beneficial, so this leads to EVs being the logical and rational choice.
