  • This is a quick explanation on how to fix a Magic Chef dual climate controlled wine cooler. If you have an E3 or E4 error message on either the top or bottom temperature readout, this will explain a very quick and easy repair. The small connectors for the fans have a tendency to either come out or corrode. I walk through how to get to them and what to do. I hope this helps!!

This worked perfectly. Had E4 error as lower fan was not working. I did not have to remove the middle shelf or disconnect it or remove the back panel. I was able to pull the middle shelf forward 4 inches then worked behind it by laying in the wine chiller. head first-like working under a car (unplugged of course) The red wire was disconnected. Connected it , electrical taped it, and works perfectly.

You made this video 7 years ago and I used it today! Thanks for taking the time to do it - you saved me time, money and possibly my wine! It’s hot right now and my cooler reached 78 before I noticed. Cheers!

Thanks for posting this. I bought 2 of these wine coolers a few years ago. One for us and one for my father. After 2 years my father's got this error and he called an electrician who fixed it for $240 !!!! Ours just got both E3 and E4 and I fixed it myself, thanks to your video.
One more tip to add to everyone else's tips: on the large white plug that must be disconnected from the side of the pull-out plastic tray; after disconnecting this plug clip off the 2 large white tabs on the sides of this large white plug (leave the 2 smaller tabs alone). This will make it a lot easier to push it back inside the hole in the pull-out plastic tray. Getting all of the wires and connectors back inside the pull-out plastic tray was the most difficult part of the fix as space is limited.

This video was a huge help. Thanks for posting it!!! Here are a couple of tips for anyone else attempting this repair: 1.) the two connectors in the back and four connectors on the side may be crammed into their slots, requiring a bit of patience and maneuvering in order to free them to be disconnected, and 2.) a flashlight, wire stripper, and wire nuts makes the job a bit easier.

This fixed my Magic Chef wine cooler...thank you! The wires were so corroded that two of them had broken completely away from the connectors. A couple of comments: I fixed mine by cutting off the connectors, stripping about 1/2-in. from each wire and twisting the appropriate ones together and then soldering them to make a permanent bond. Before twisting them, I ran one end of each wire pair through about 2-in. of very small diameter shrink tubing, so that when the soldering was complete, I could slide the shrink tube over the repair and use a hair dryer to shrink it down for a tight seal. To add even more protection, I wrapped the whole thing in electrical tape. One suggestion to try is that if you undo the back and shelf as described in the video, you may be able to slide everything forward enough that you don't have to try to fish the connectors out of the right, front of the shelf. I was able to access the corroded wires by lying on the floor and getting at them from under the back of the shelf avoiding what may be the hardest part which is trying to get the front connectors out of the shelf and then back in at the end.

Just noting here that this model was sold under quite a few brand names - mine was a salton WC-2039, identical error and this fixed it.

Thanks for posting! I had code E3 and bypassed the black connector. I didn't even pull the middle shelf out all the way. I just pulled it out about 4". I soldered the connections and put shrink tubing over the bare spots. BTW, I swapped connectors first to ensure that the upper fan was still good!

I bow down to you, oh great one! We bought a used Wine Enthusiat Cooler (exact same model as this one) and both error messages, E3 and E4, were lit. Followed your example and it worked PERFECTLY! Too bad we don't have someone as intelligent as you in the White House! Thanks for the help!

So just an FYI for anyone who still watches this video... IT works!! The connections on the fans corroded due to condensation build up behind the fan channel. It's really not a good design. I originally had an E3 error and was only using one zone then the second went bad. I could still hear the compressor so I found this video.
I thought the fans were dead...which Sears has the replacement fans (expensive $49 for each, probably only costs $.50), but decided to give this a try first. After cutting off the connectors and hardwiring it works like a champ! I have had this cooler for going on 6 years and I would recommend to anyone. No, it's not a Viking or JenAir but under 1k and dual zones you can go wrong. If you want a really nice unit and you have a budget, this is a solid unit (now if you don't have a budget then you probably aren't reading this anyways)
I did take off the door to gain more access as its only 3 screws. Overall it took me about 1.5 - 2 hours.

Thank you for doing this video. We have this wine fridge and have had this error for a while, your video saved us from having to have it serviced or replace it, both would have been pricey. In response to the question below, not sure of the model number, but is very similar to the one in the video, seems as soon as we stocked it fully, we started having problems, we keep soda and canned beer in the top and bottled wine in the lower section. The fans are fussy and like lots of "air" space, I might have purchased something different if I knew I couldn't stock it 100%.

Greg S, sorry I am not an active participant in discussions on my videos. never really thought many pepople would use it, but figured I would post just in case. I would have to check on the exact model I have (HAD). This fix worked for awhile and then the compressor actually went out and it completely died. I dont know how old it was as it came with the house when we moved in over a year ago. I agree, its not the best of quality, but for a budget, its great, esp when wanting to seperate white and reds. The wine coolers I really liked were over 1K and there is no way I was going to spend that just to get chilled wine. I since bought a new version of this same exact model and it works just fine and is pretty quiet.

Worked like a charm for me! 39F/39F constant temp top and bottom! One of the pins on one of the connectors was completely gone. I simply cut off the connectors and use PosiLock connectors on the wires.

So after I have the shelf out and disconnect the wires, do I strip a bit of the wire to add one wire nut each to the black and the white wire, thereby disregarding how they were wired in the first place? Are we getting rid of the "white connector"? Because it looks like he's got his still on there with two open wires next to it on the shelf piece.

Shane great video, I had a question for you. I am getting an "E3" error on one side and a temperature of 78 on the other. The side that reads 78 will not cool down as well. Did you have the same issue or was your temperature side able to cool down? I just was wondering if I might have another issue as well. Thanks for time and great post.

I get an E3 and an E4 , I took out the black shelf behind the shelf wires both red wires were out Not in the black and white holder thing . Would that be why both sides have an Error?

  • @sharxboy
    @sharxboy 2 роки тому

So disconnect the wire, but then just connect them with a wire nut? How do you do that? "Basically you hard wire them", how do I do that? Is that what the wire nut does? I wish this was a little more detailed. Obviously I'm not a DIYer, but I will study and get this done if I can.

Had the E3 code for quite a while, when the E4 also showed up I tried following this video. I hard connected red to red and black to black wires from the white connectors, leaving the black connector as is. Now the fans still don't turn on and in addition the LED display doesn't come on. Any thoughts? Thanks.

We tried that but the wires were not the issue. The fan runs for a second and then stops right after when it is plugged back in. What do you recommend to do now? Thanks

Hi Shane, I think the problem is that the connectors failed to do a good contact is that what you mean..? I have a customer that just ask me about it, same model as the one on this video.
That is an easy fix, in my case, I'll replace the connectors for a better quality and be done with it, some like moister/water proof i guess...
    Nice video tho...
