Part of what makes something a "little treat" (at least for me) is not having it very often. I really enjoy/appreciate these because it does not happen every day/week.
Rebuttal for George going after Rachel reading fiction. Studies show reading fiction is beneficial for mental health, EQ/social awareness as well as simply reading. “Reading can even relax your body by lowering your heart rate and easing the tension in your muscles. A 2009 study at the University of Sussex found that reading can reduce stress by up to 68%.” Much better than scrolling for over all health. Love the banter between you two.
In regards to coffee: I used to stop and get a venti every single day. My now husband found out how much I spent and I think it nearly gave his young 20s heart an attack. That week we went out and got a Nespresso machine and frother. It has lasted me 6 years and is still going. It’s not as cost effective as regular coffee but we buy the Starbucks brand syrups so I still get my little treat but at home for a fraction of the cost. It also saved my sanity during COVID 😂
we've had a nespresso for years, tons of pods that are not nespresso, on amazon. the frother sux and we got a SMEG brand off amazon. a total game cjhanger. 4 years old and going strong
Financial planning is like navigation. If you know where you are and where you want to go, navigation isn't such a great problem. It's when you don't know the two points that it's difficult
Very possible! especially at this moment. Profits can be made in many different ways, but such intricate transactions should only be handled by seasoned market professionals.
My little treat back when I was broke was a croissant from a nearby bakery on payday. That’s one every two weeks for about the cost of a Starbucks. Was it extra? Yeah, about $100 a year. But it made watching the rest of my paycheck go to bills and necessities less painful
Rachel, on your next Amazon or Target jaunt, purchase a rice cooker. Wash the rice and hit the button. Fresh, steamed rice in about 20 minutes. Best part, you can walk away so you don't have to worry about getting distracted and forget to cancel your unneeded subscriptions.
I gotta say... This is THE show (all the Ramsey shows and George's show, any of them) that has been missing from my life. I've had the broke to baby steps *half* millionaire life. I struggled through all of these steps for a decade and didn't even know these shows and this type of encouragement existed. Whew, I tell everyone about these shows, but just wish I knew about all this in my thirties 😏
There was a British reality show about 15 yrs ago. I think it was called the 1900s. It placed a single family of 5 or 6 people in a home from the early 1900s. They lived there for a few months at least. Breadwinners still worked outside the home at their job. I remember one family whose dad was in the military, so he had to wear the uniform of his rank from the 1900 time at work. The whole family wore the clothes. Gender rules were strong re: household chores. Period Bathing suits when at the community pool. No electronics, had wood stove, etc. I loved that show. I was definitely more grateful for what I had after watching each episode!
The country song is Just Another Day in Paradise by Phil Vassar. “Kids screaming, the phone ringing, dog barking at the mailman bringing that stack of bills overdue…” :)
Heck yeah, I hide treats in my house. I’ve got 5 kids. I try to sneak my own treats during their nap time, but we live in a camper, so any crinkle of a bag opening and I hear a voice go, “Mama, what’s that??”. But I’m a problem solver. So I play the audio Bible during nap time and they can’t hear what I’m doing anymore. Amen, hallelujah 😅
My grandmother had 6 kids and 2 step kids and she used to say that she would put her Hershey bar inside of a magazine and pour her Dr Pepper in a coffee mug because by the time each kid got one square of chocolate and one sip of I her DP, she was left with no soda and only 1 square of chocolate for herself!! So she would take her 'black coffee' and her magazine and go into the bathroom and lock the door to enjoy her treat 😆 🤣
I don’t do little treats, but I’m guilty of big treats. I’ll cut back and save like crazy to stay in a castle hotel in Ireland instead of the average hotel, but I buy coffee, maybe, once a month. I’m debt free, except the mortgage, and travel overseas once every two years from Australia.
Excellent show! Loved hearing what your spouses had to say regarding sweet treats and money leaks for you both. Shows just how real you guys are - which I didn't doubt. Just fun to hear what your family has to say. 🙂 The chemistry you guys have together is fun to watch, too. I learn something every time I watch this show. Please keep it going for a long time!
When you two where talking about " Group of a Society", crazy funny by the way. I was on vaction in the Philippines to vist my friend and we went to his wifes family home in the province. There I realized that I dont need alot to survive and be comfortable. I had limited cell service, showers outside, and no AC and slet pn a thin foam pad. It was so weird that made me happy. This go the show that, there are alot of things that we really dont need to make us happy.
Dr Squatch is AMAZING, it's the best soap. It doesn't leave any gross residue like all the chemical liquid soaps, which are way closer to laundry detergent than the soap our great grandparents used to use. Dr squatch is great for your skin and makes you feel so much cleaner.
Re: soap. I like foam soap too! To save money, I make my own. You can use up your favorite gel soap; pump maybe 3-4 good squirts into a foam soap bottle and then add water. Shake the bottle and that’s it!
Small treat solution...instead of buying books...head to the library! All the books you want for FREE and then no book clutter in your house!! Double treat!!
Yes, my daughter and I hide our favorite chips in her closet because the husband and brother will eat them gone in short order 😅. Love family, but they are not to be trusted with treats 😅
Nice! Spindrift is pretty much the only drink out there that is flavored with a little bit of juice. Other brands like La Croix have the ghost of a flavor or if they’re sweetened are too sweet or artificial 😖
First time watching and I loved this episode. I was just talking with my husband about money leaks. We are debt free and I’m currently pregnant with our 4th. When the cravings hit, they hit hard. When I did a month review in Feb… we had spent 108 in Starbucks Fraps. I’m normally not a Starbucks person. I haven’t been back since! We now make the drink at home. My 3 boys are young (6,4 and2) and I feel we are constantly getting treats like Sluprees at Wawa or eating a fast food meal while we are on outings. We homeschool and eat every meal homemade but once every two weeks the kids will ask for outside food as a treat -problem is as a family of 5 McDs will be a 50 dollar outing. I’ve started a treat budget to keep this in line. But yes money leak are for real and can be damaging. Good insight
PBS did that reality show. 20 years ago they took three “city people” families and dropped them in Wild West homestead. It was one of the best series ever.
Hey guys!❤ As a housekeeper, I approve George's Dr. Squatch bar soap! I made sure to let a client know (often) the Dr. S soap smelled good, was supposed to be good(ish) for him, and that it cut my SCRUBBING time from 1 hour (just to do his shower!!) to almost half that! He has unsealed tile walls (dark brown, so shows soap scum) and small , also brown, tile floors. So, LOTS of grout SCRUBBING to get all of the built up soap scum out. Ugghh 😢😢😢 I let him know I did the rest of the house entirely in the amount of time it took me to clean just his bathroom! (His wife and kids were not as high maintenance as he was 😂) anyhow, he stuck with it for a while then one day, the ol ' Dial and Ivory bars were baaaacck !!!😂 I think it was a Christmas present. And since we did exchange gifts, foe the years I was with them, I thought...hmmmm, maybe I need to gift him a big box of Dr. Squatch soap! 😂😂😂 I mean, it was also a gift for mw!🎉🎉
house cleaner for 30 years. wished i thought of that in the early days. what a great hack.., nothing worse than unsealed grout AND giant glass doors in the bright sunlight!!
Im with George on Dr Squatch. That soap bar is the bomb. I work in a pvc manufacturing facility, and after a 12 hr shift it feels like im wearing it. Squatch gets that grunge off, my old go to was Irish Spring but it can't do the job nearly as well. I had to put Dr Squatch on hold tho as i put down my unsecured debt. 8 bux a bar vs 6 bux for 8 bars of Dial. Frugality over vanity.. until the last 6k has been put down.
I love mudslides. They're my favorite cruise drink. I think they would be ready too make at home, because most of those ingredients are the kind people have at home on a semi regular basis. Some of them other cocktails, while cheaper, have included things most normal people wouldn't necessarily have on hand. Really really fun show today.
Great episode. Very entertaining. I am pretty good at avoiding the small treats and budget leaks. Mostly because I live in a small town without many options. No cupcake shops or Starbucks here. :]
Love y'all! White Russian is one of my favorite drinks and it's almost like a mudslide. P.S. I just canceled Apple TV after finishing The Morning show and hubby wanted to watch The Beekeeper. I only subscribe streaming when there is something specific I want to watch.
I used to treat myself with coffee drinks each time I went shopping. It does add up. So now I make an iced coffee from home and take it with me and store bought coffee is only occasional. Saves cash. And not to brag but we do the Every Dollar budget every month and keep track with app and if you are done with a category you are Done. Each month we manage to stay under or at budget. Sure it takes discipline, but keeping on budget now since 2015 we have much less stress! ❤
Do you have tips to contentment? I know you say scorched earth in the debt paying off stage. My husband and I are in baby step 6ish and it's hard not to notice all the shiny new things some of our family members are getting. I'm confident we're in a more secure place and making wise decisions, the trade offs are hard sometimes in other ways.
It’s especially tough when everyone is congratulating those of their shiny new objects but don’t acknowledge you of paying off debt and living debt free
100% debt free is not the only way to build wealth, I don't think the process has to be frustrating. I have a mortgage and financed cars. The house and cars are nice, not extravagant. Does this debt bother me? Nope. Do my wife and I have the income to pay down this debt? Yep. Why do we finance instead of cash? because that income is being routed to tax deferred retirement accounts instead of paying down cheap debt. We pay 3% in interest in exchange for 30% tax savings on the same money. Once you include company matches and market gains, the interest is not even a concern. We're talking upwards of +80% on the income we defer instead of paying down debt, every year. Where is this "snowball method" in any of Ramsey's processes? Maybe a real financial advisor could offer up more options than Ramsey. What's your tax rate? What accounts do you have access to for tax deferment? these are important questions with answers that are different for everyone. Any financial plan should be matched to the individual. We have a seven figure net worth. We built that over the last 10 years and we didn't get there by avoiding debt. And we didn't eat bologna sandwiches either. We have tried to balance enjoying life while making the best cost benefit decisions as they came along. Just another perspective..
@@blanketwodahs6741 I’d be interested in hearing yours and your wife income. $5k a month in mortgage and car loans does not hurt as much when your earning $150k+ a year
@@itsandrew8758 The payment amounts on debt are not important for the process I am describing. What is important is whatever excess cash you have to put toward debt vs directing that somewhere to save on taxes and have tax free growth. If you simplify a plan of "debt free", this requires a certain amount of excess cash flow. This cash flow is either to pay down debt or to build cash reserves to pay cash for things like cars. If you are somehow to pay off your mortgage, for example, you can't do it without excess cash flow. This cash flow has already been reduced by taxes. Avoiding taxation on this money puts more money in your pocket immediately. Depending on your tax bracket (state and federal), what you pay on taxes on that cash flow can be very significant. If your excess cash flow is $1500/mo, and you're in a 30% tax bracket (state and federal, pretty easy to end up there in CA), $1500 without taxes becomes $2,142 when you direct it to a tax deferred account. Every month. Now - there is a point low enough on the income scale where the tax burden can be very low, and in that case, the "debt free" axiom is probably the way to go. Maybe you are only in the 12% fed bracket and you live in a low or zero tax state. At that point things do look different. There are still a handful of other potentials I am not including here, but the long and short is: finance is situational and should be tailored to the individual. If someone is struggling too much with the super simplified, "cold turkey" financial plan, maybe there are some other options for them that a real financial advisor could offer.
Pizza delivery can get expensive fast. I ordered Pizza recently from Pizza Hut. A medium pizza, 2 sodas, a ‘cookie pie’, and breadsticks was almost $60 with delivery and tip.
Leaks are life and death for some families facing inflation and layoffs right now. Every bit helps. It really does! Those little treats can add up to 3 extra meals per week or a health insurance payment…
Parts of this were so funny, I'm in my mid thirties and I grew up hauling, chopping, stacking wood, caring for animals hauling grain, throwing hay etc, having a large garden we worked. Some people do still live like that today even lol
Oh Rachel! Stop Subway! They are sloppy with cleanliness in their stores. I use to go to Subway fairly often. But I stopped completely the day I saw a cockaroach trotting across the area where they prepare sandwiches. I was so grossed out that I haven’t been back for years and years.
George! Let me recommend Duke Cannon for men's soaps! I think they are cheaper but still the great same quality. They also have hair products and beard products (and more!) and a portion of their proceeds goes to support Veterans!!!
I am proud to say I have never paid for cable TV or streaming services or any subscription for that matter my whole adult life. My mobile phone monthly bill has average about $8-$12 for the past 15 years. Wonder how much I've saved in the past 20 years.
agreed so much free content, i will never catch up. have you tried TUBI? HAD CONSUMER CELLULAR FOR YEARS. ALWAYS AROUND 30 A MONTH switched to tello. 9 a month, 11 after tax. love it.
non intentional clothing shopping can make all your other budget disciple evaporate. months later, still with tags on, the sweater goes to good will for the tax write-off. magical thinking at it's finest.
George I'm also OCD but my thing is I have to lint roll my bed every day and all my clothes when they come out of the washing machine...I don't like loose hair or fluff in the bed ....I feel you 😬
If George ever finds himself in Colorado Springs, he should go into the Rocky Mountain Soap Market. I have a little soap addiction as well and my little treat when I lived there was to get a Pikes Peak lemonade then go get soap.
My litlle treat is Dutch Bros for coffee. I put $35/mo on the mobile app on the 1st of each month. Sometimes i use all of it, usually not. I only get a latte once a week. I also jave a Starbucks gift card i use when i travel. I put all groceries, gas, Costco, pet supplies on my credit card and as soon as the charge goes from pending to posted i pay it in full before the bill ever processes. Every quarter i use the cash back for debit cards ro use for Christmas shopping. It is another way i do not overspend on Christmas gifts.
For me it’s definitely kids clothes. I buy too many. Recently I’ve started keeping some in my online shopping cart for a day or two and waiting if I stop “needing” or “wanting” it. I’ve saved some money that way. Also going to Costco / BJs less often helps. I always overspend at those big stores.
Omg do an episode on forgotten bills and laziness to call to get that bill reduced or the fatigue related to make change to a cheaper service maybe sprinkle a bit of adhd in there lol
Everytime the wife and I budget it comes down to "little treats" being in the way of starting the debt snowball. We started another budget talk, I'm leaving my debit card at home in my dresser except on the days I need gas and I am once again going to begin getting out of debt. I've been debt free twice and debt free but the house once. I can do it, I already have.
George would pass out if he tried our favorite Mexican place. One day I decided to splurge and get one of their margaritas (even though I thought it was a little strange they didn't list the price), one or two sizes smaller than their biggest and it was almost 20 dollars, I spent less on the meal than I did on the drink
Even if we earn them. There is no such thing as “deserve”. This is real life. There is “can afford” as in “what do I need to sell, save, or shift in order to make space for this within the limits of our realistic budget?” I wanted subscriptions $7 or less… Dude - WTH is the Apple Charge?!? It’s like $5.49. But 4 times per month.
Okay I get the money leaks from going to the drive-thru or Target or places like that. Uber eats is My kryptonite, or was until last month. We'll see how long I can stay off of it. That being said, grocery store prices for basic food are getting ridiculous
Get Dave and Sharon on, Together.
Dave's never been on this show.
Yes!
It would be a fun guest-takeover show idea.
YES!!!!
Sharon is a walking leak and the origin of daves simping
The audible gasp I made when George said he washes his hands between washing his hair and his body in the shower. 😂😂😂
I heard him say he washes his hands between shampooing and using hair conditioner. 🤷🏻♀️
OMG OCD y'all. It shows up differently in every one of us!!
I wash my hands first thing when I get in the shower so they’re clean before they clean everything else. 😅
@@LisaPFrampton Thank you, as someone who does the same. Also, some of us are allergic to regular soaps and have to buy specialty soaps.

Loved the end of video. Treats are so cool when they come as gifts.
Do it. Blcktken300 already in my bags. I had a Blcktken300 after ( your should I buy ) and I agreed and bought. I'm looking to stack more, too.
This epsiode was super fun keep it up guys and gals ❤
I need a sonic tea now. Thanks. 🙄😬🤣
Also..... if you have kids, who has NOT hidden food/treats?😂
I feel backwards about the ratings!! The reflexology is self-care, but books you can get for free at the library...
I feel so much better after listening to this.
Pizza delivery can get expensive fast. I ordered Pizza recently from Pizza Hut. A medium pizza, 2 sodas, a ‘cookie pie’, and breadsticks was almost $60 with delivery and tip.
I keep pizzas in the freezer for those hectic days when cooking feels like too much work and I'm tempted to order out. Much cheaper.
@@autumnjereneI’m obsessed with the thin great value ones. They scratch the pizza itch but sometimes I will cave and get papa johns 😂
That made that show. A bunch of families try to survive like it was 1600. It’s called Frontier House. We watched it in school on 9th grade.
Money leaks do make a lot of difference. Great share💡
Dr. Squatch is AWESOME!
Can comfirm that Dr. Squatch is great haha
The TV show Alone is a more real survivalist version of that kind of TV show.
Money is a tool. Use it. Have it in your budget as long ad you are achieving your goals.
Oh Rachel! Stop Subway! They are sloppy with cleanliness in their stores. I use to go to Subway fairly often. But I stopped completely the day I saw a cockaroach trotting across the area where they prepare sandwiches. I was so grossed out that I haven’t been back for years and years.
😱😱😱😳
back in the day we walked out of more subways than we ordered from. finally gave it up.
George! Let me recommend Duke Cannon for men's soaps! I think they are cheaper but still the great same quality. They also have hair products and beard products (and more!) and a portion of their proceeds goes to support Veterans!!!
My sweet treat is getting a $2 donut (includes tax) about twice a month ($48/year). If they were only $1, I'd probably get one every week. BS7.
I am proud to say I have never paid for cable TV or streaming services or any subscription for that matter my whole adult life. My mobile phone monthly bill has average about $8-$12 for the past 15 years.
Wonder how much I've saved in the past 20 years.
agreed
so much free content, i will never catch up.
have you tried TUBI?
HAD CONSUMER CELLULAR FOR YEARS. ALWAYS AROUND 30 A MONTH
switched to tello. 9 a month, 11 after tax. love it.
Im with you George, foam hand soap is a life changing!🙈
I feel like you are talking bout the song "it happens" sugarland i think sings it.
Spindrift is the only sparkling water that tastes good!! I recommend the grapefruit or blood orange.
Rachel....read "Comfort Crisis" by Michael Easter.
She actually read it and did a vlog on it on her UA-cam page.
I second the gel soap thing it has to be foaming lol
George, I feel the foaming soap necessity. We only use foaming dish soap, I even put my shampoo in a foaming pump bottle. Try it out!
non intentional clothing shopping can make all your other budget disciple evaporate. months later, still with tags on, the sweater goes to good will for the tax write-off. magical thinking at it's finest.
Hey guys, great episode!! I keep meaning to ask, does every dollar work in the UK? Does it connect to UK banks at all?
All in with Geo on the sparkling water. Calms my stomach and it's water!
George I'm also OCD but my thing is I have to lint roll my bed every day and all my clothes when they come out of the washing machine...I don't like loose hair or fluff in the bed ....I feel you 😬
George, you make it hard not to judge you.
Great Day to Be Alive is my wake up song on my alarm. Travis Tritt!
They do have a reality show called “Alone” where it truly is surviving out there in the wilderness
That show is amazing! Way better than sniping on Survivor.
When Rachel said My crackly hands - I busted out laughing 🤪
If George ever finds himself in Colorado Springs, he should go into the Rocky Mountain Soap Market. I have a little soap addiction as well and my little treat when I lived there was to get a Pikes Peak lemonade then go get soap.
We canceled other streaming services to keep Apple since we got into Silo
“Life is short. Get the guac.” Wrecked me😂
My litlle treat is Dutch Bros for coffee.
George- me too! Foaming hand soap!!❤
This was so enjoyable 😂 thanks for the great laugh
Omg do an episode on forgotten bills and laziness to call to get that bill reduced or the fatigue related to make change to a cheaper service maybe sprinkle a bit of adhd in there lol
I love this one
Haha!! I am also a soap snob. Why are we so alike!? 😂😂
25:59 can someone please explain the throwback reference? I know "smh" means "shake my head" but don't get the rest.
Books are definitely a drain, but sometimes you gain knowledge.
First time watching. Omg this was so funny!!
Story of our family life right here. One little treat after another add up fast…
Even if we earn them.
There is no such thing as “deserve”.
This is real life.
There is “can afford” as in “what do I need to sell, save, or shift in order to make space for this within the limits of our realistic budget?”
I wanted subscriptions $7 or less…
Dude - WTH is the Apple Charge?!? It’s like $5.49. But 4 times per month.
Okay I get the money leaks from going to the drive-thru or Target or places like that. Uber eats is My kryptonite, or was until last month. We'll see how long I can stay off of it. That being said, grocery store prices for basic food are getting ridiculous
