My theory about car prices is similar to George's. People are willing to go into more debt, because they don't look at the total price; they look at the monthly payment. And loans have longer terms so the monthly payment is still considered "manageable." As long as most people care more about the monthly payment and are willing to pay the higher prices, car prices will continue to go up. Supply and demand. A lot of the increased auto expense is mandated government safety and fuel standards. Along with base model accessories that were luxuries 20+ years ago. (power windows, AC, Navigation screens, radio etc.)
Great episode. My parents were paid to go to college and couldn't understand why I needed to spend (at the time) $20k/year for college so they said no. Having student loan debt after B-school (even really manageable) delayed me many years from buying a home. It is interesting because most of my neighbors are from other countries, mostly China and India, and their parents save so much more for their kids' education, weddings and home down payments. It is hard not to be resentful of our country's priorities because we are setting up our young adults for a life of debt.
If buyers didn't pay that price, the prices would come down. But people just look at the monthly payment and have extended loans so it doesn't hurt as bad... until something breaks. A vicious cycle.
Honestly, I think because people don't always know there's another option, or at least a good one. Like parking further away to avoid parking fees. I get my exercise, see the sights, and avoid fees.
George. Can we talk about the 'cleaning fee' that you are always talking about with an AirBNB? I think that you haven't researched this enough. Firstly, the fees that you should be complaining about are the AirBNB platform fees. And we have a few properties listed on that platform that they have automatically added 'community fees' ... ? I don't even know what a community fee is but they've added it onto our properties. We, as a rental management company, need to make sure that they property is clean for your arrival. We charge a flat rate based on what we need to pay our crew to get it ready for your visit. Some people say that the fee should be built into the price. That's ok. But help me understand how to do that? If our cleaning fee is $100 and you are there for 3 days, that means that your nightly rate would increase by $33/night. But let's say that you are there for 10 days, which would mean that your nightly rate would increase by $10/night. That's all well and good, but how do we know know many days an advance booking might book for in order to know how much to raise the rate? If we just raise the rate, based on our nightly minimum, 3 nights, and agree that $33/night addition for cleaning is a great option. But if you book at 10 night's, then that means that you're now paying $330.00 in total for a cleaning fee. We don't ever want to charge someone that much money. We have to charge a cleaning fee, and we do it upfront, so there's no surprises. There are hosts out there who are also owners who choose to clean their own units, and maybe not charge a cleaning fee, because they are profiting from the entire rental rate and not outsourcing cleaning, and that's great. You are free to search those rentals out and it's great to support that host. But you also can't come down on hosts who would like to professionally clean before and after you leave. And we can't always guarantee that guests will actually leave the unit looking half way decent and not completely trashed. We then have nothing to fall back on for assistance in getting it ready in a timely manner for the next guest. In lieu of a cleaning fee, we do not ask you to do anything upon checkout except if there's dishes in the dishwasher, to start it, and please take out the trash so the unit does not smell. That's it. We do not charge a cleaning fee AND give you a long list of chores to do before you check-out ... strip the beds, put all towels in the tub, etc. So with that being said, can you please take a minute to look into what a cleaning fee is, why it's not hidden, and maybe if you want the fee gone, to help figure out a way for hosts to be able to continue hosting if they get rid of the fee. And you've never said on your videos (that I've caught), why you dislike the cleaning fee so much? You just mention, often, about how you don't like it. I have commented before with my questions on it, but have never received any response, but that's ok. Take Care and love the Smart Money Happy Hour episodes. They've quickly become one of my favorites. Keep it up.

It used to be that salty language added something about a character in a book or in a movie. It was artsy. Now, it is just cheap and doesn't add anything to the book/movie. I think we are desentized about school shootings. It is always sad and scary. But, there was one in 1960s. Since Columbine, they have been way too often. Mental health needs to be destigmatized. Small steps have been taken, but there is a long way to go. It used to be you could get a degree in 2 years to be a teacher for example. Then, it became 4 years. And most of just drag ourselves through the courses we have to take, but don't enjoy or have an interest in. I agree exposure to all subjects can make us well rounded. But a good h.s. education should be the beginning of that. I had to take two science classes in h.s. In college, I had to take two more. Part of that, I believe is to keep full time professors in less popular courses, teaching full classes
I agree with the mortgage. I look at what my house payment would be with the current interest rate and market value and it would be near 40% of my salary while it is less than 25% of my after-tax take-home now. around $700 more.
The trick with babysitters is trading off with a friend. Must be a couple. I get to go out with my husband while my friend watches my kids and her husband stays home with their kids. I'll go watch their kids while my husband stays home with ours. Trade off at no cost. As long as you don't abuse it and it becomes one sided.

If buyers didn't pay that price, the prices would come down. But people just look at the monthly payment and have extended loans so it doesn't hurt as bad... until something breaks. A vicious cycle.
George, go to the comedy show!
EXCUSE ME 😤 there are no bad songs on Butterfly
This is all so weird. Agreeing to such high prices. It’d be interesting to do a deep dive why people just do it.
Honestly, I think because people don't always know there's another option, or at least a good one. Like parking further away to avoid parking fees. I get my exercise, see the sights, and avoid fees.
Girl, I think of Ross dressed as Spudnik too! It's just too clever a play off of sputnik .
Can we have Alex cross his legs like Lindsey since he’s replacing her 😂
Something about Rachel gives me the feeling she already has at least one credit card .
Guilty as Charged: I have to let my G-ma know all the time that I have *not* seen “that” commercial ugh 😂 bc I don’t even have cable.
I think we need a live stream movie night of george and rachel watching father of the bride 😂
About the shows being weekly and all, I do miss. However, some services are doing weekly episodes again. Like The Mandolorian and newer stuff.
Keep it up.
Get Dave and Sharon on at the same time.😊
I think we become desensitized to Vet bills. And auto repairs. Car insurances
I was advised to diversify my portfolio among several assets such as stocks and bonds since this can protect my portfolio for retirement of about $750k. I want to know: Do I keep contributing to my portfolio in these unstable markets, or do I look into alternative sectors?
Just try to diversify your portfolio to other market sectors, that way your investment is balanced and you don’t get to make so much losses.
I stopped listening and taking financial advise from these UA-camrs, because at the end of the day, I end up with a bunch of confusing stocks without knowing when to take profit, In reality, all I needed was professional advice.
Interesting, I’ve actually been looking into advisors lately, the news
I've been seeing in the market hasn't been so encouraging. who's the person guiding you?
She goes by 'Wendy Birkett' . I choose to delegate my excesses to her because of her great expertise. I suggest you look her up. To be honest, almost didn't buy the idea of letting someone handle growing my finances, but so glad I did!!!
Really there is no better feeling than coming across a similar name who has helped change ones family life financially, Yes i know her and honestly i can testify her strategy is amazing and truly worth giving the shot.
I would go to Jim Gaffigan for a couple hundred bucks a pop. He’s the GOAT.
He’s worth giving up a week or two of groceries for, even 😂
I am definitely not desensitized to an income of $100K. Lol that would be a dream income for me
Right! It’s so foreign to even think about making over 60k/yr
What you guys do for living? Maybe it's all about your career choices.
@@LittleMopeHead I’m a GIS Analyst. I’m making the appropriate amount of money for my career choice and I love what I do. I’m recently debt free too, so there’s no major concern on my end. It’s just the reality of it, I’ll probably never see a six figure income. But I’m still young and you never know where your career can take you…
Definitely would depend on where I lived. More expensive area, that's just getting by. Low-cost area, soaring high. Or if I had kids or not.
@@janae09 I checked GIS Analyst and the prospective salary is up to around $85k (depending on area of course). I think for certain careers, there's a threshold where they max out, so the only way to get more compensation is by tenure or jump to management role or similar jobs.
For me, I am a Web Developer (senior), so my salary ranges very widely, $60-$160k, depending on location and type of work. I am right there at $103k, but with profit sharing and other benefits, is probably around $125k. Best part is I work remotely. I believe if I jump to another company, I could potentially make $140k+ easily. I am in TX.
Let’s all live affordable, lives and drop all the cute sayings🎉
Having a high self esteem means not caring what others think.I save tons of money riding my e-bike 6 months out of the year rather than my truck
I just want to go out for drinks with Rachel 😂😂
Oversharing on Facebook annoys me 🤣😂
Regarding cursing. I think a lot of that is a substitute for quality writing skills.
I agree with the mortgage. I look at what my house payment would be with the current interest rate and market value and it would be near 40% of my salary while it is less than 25% of my after-tax take-home now. around $700 more.
A $700 mortgage would be a dream… I started working/making money right as everything turned to crap
It's just sad what the $1400 mortgage now will get you with What I paid 15 years ago for the place
What’s bad is when you quote from a movie or show that you’ve never seen😂
I used to make 1 dollar an hour to sit 2-3 kids. 😂
People are desensitized to buying drinks. My coworkers buy several bottles of soda, water, and monsters. $3 to $6 per bottle. Drinks at restaurants are $3.50 or more for tea snd soda and alcohol is $15 to $20 per drink. I usually order water!! I buy diet Dr thunder from Walmart to take to work. One soda and a refillable water bottle. Saves me s fortune.
"Conformism"! The word you're looking for is "conformism" or "conformity".
