because most drummers are idiot, ROTOTONS MUST NEVER BE FORGOTEN......i will put rototons in my recordings......for years ive searched for good rototons like these
As soon as I have the time! I have 2 sort of mountings for them. The bigger ones are mounted on separate cymbalstands. The main bolt is just welded on to a standard cymbal-stand thingy with cogs. The 12" and 14" are mounted on standard on pearl tom-mounts. It looks like a factory-thing to me. The main bolt goes trough two pieces of plastic with a tension-bolt. I'll show you when I have the time.
Roto-toms are so underrated. I owned some and was not able to get the best out of them. I sold them, blaming the "shell" quality, while they actually came with bad drumheads.
Yeah the heads are importans! I know Bill Bruford used diplomats or ambassadors. I recorded this with pinstripes, not my favorite. If you use thinner heads they sound less like normal drums and more like a Tympani on drugs, which is cool.
I love this video! Great job! I have liked Rototoms since I played them in a concert back in High School. I am trying to find the larger ones to buy now, but people are asking some really high prices! I will either save up enough to pay a high price, or keep an eye out for reasonably priced ones :) I want them all! 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and the 18 monster (really beautiful sound). I also want to make a veri pitch snare with either a 14" or maybe a 12" mounted to a 13" piccolo shell.
wonderful.........ROTOTONS MUST NEVER BE FORGOTEN......i will put rototons in my recordings......for years ive searched (include on other rototons videos) for good rototons like these, INCLUDE THESE FILS, GOOD FOR ROCK ENDS.......thanx simon, jesus protect you
Yeah I think I did okay. Not entirely happy though. It's difficult to get that really low boom out of the 16 and 18. I suspect that is why the bigger ones are hard to find, the smaller ones work better and are more easy to tune.
Good day mate and cheers from Greece. I also have a pair of 12 and 14 rotos and I was wodering what kind of stand do you have for those on your kit? I have the standard bar that isn't very ergonomic and I'm looking for ways to get a set up close to yours. I see that you're using the standard long Pearl tom mounts but how do you mount the rotos on them? Thanks for the info and keep up the good work!
sounds great through my system here@ I'm surprised you dont have the 6,8,10. The larger sizes are tough to find! I know, I have over many years 2 bought sets of the smaller rotos but the large ones are tough to find at a decent price and condition.
incredible man, all sound amazing and your drumming is fantastic, all sound like a dream cymbals and snare, remember me andy ward of camel, incredible, dont play more jazz is better for you.....
That was beyond awesome. I really appreciate your drumming skills. I remember when Roto-toms were very popular back in the 70's and 80's. Van Halen Jump video is a prime example. I have a Roland 25KV electric drum kit and I am looking for a solution to get some decent Roto-tom sounds added to my kit, which seems to be a major and costly upgrade. Most e-drum modules I came across did't have Roto-tom sounds, or they had sounds of smaller diameter roto-toms and the tone was 'plastic'. Maybe I will try to hook up my kit to a drum software. Any suggestions? Again, great video, I truly enjoyed it!
Gonçalo Dias Yes they’re all original Remo. The 12 and 14 have clamps for pearl tom-arms. The rest have separate stands. They have a sort of cog mount with a bolt, like the uppermost part of a cymbalstand.
Simon Selsfors Great playing & set up!!....would it be possible to make a separate video showing & explaining how you mounted your Roto toms to the stands!! Thank you!!
Yep! A bit hard to find, and recording them is even more tricky. They tend to be all attack and not enough low end, but if you get it right they're a real treat to have in the studio.
Well they have a quite narrow area of use... Imagine showing up for a modern pop-session with a pile of nostalgic prog-drums... I use mine reasonably often though.
I've often toyed with the idea of building myself a condensed road kit using roto toms, this vid has convinced me it's viable sound wise.
The rototoms sound fucking great.
Thank you for taking one for the team and making this demo, haha. Definitely the best one I’ve heard so far. Looking into some rotos.
Excellent job Simon!! Powerful dynamics and thunderous rotos! Musician/Artist USA- ThomMeinert
That sounds great, I used to play rock in the 70s pubs and clubs. Just the sort of sound I like!👍🏼
Looking for a set of these myself. I've no idea why they aren't more popular these days as they sound amazing
Nicholas Sadlier I have a set for sale. Look on eBay.

@@anticomunistadoms imagine calling drummers idiots, then immediately calling roto-toms "rototons"

Great Job !!

Excellent beautiful sublime 🎼 Roto toms amazing rules 🎼 🥁 💫 🙏 💫 🎶 🎵
Great sound and playing! Thank You for sharing!
Super cool! Great sounding kit, great playing. Keep rocking!
I will!
These sound huge bro! Nice job!
Please make a video to describe / show how you have mounted these!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

Interesting, I concur as the owner of various size Roto Toms, is like to see you version instead of a opti-mount like I have now.
Very cool kit!
Wicked playing...Kit sounds awesome: :)

Add a set of octobons to your left & a 60" paiste gong behind you, you'd be playing my dream kit. Sounds great.
Showing up for a club gig with a singer songwriter with a car full of a behemoth full of rotos, octobans and gongs sounds like my kinda vibe.

These sound amazing!!!
Very impressive love the sound!
2:11 In the air tonight ;)
He he exactly my thoughts
I really like your rig man!
Sounds amazing! Those roto's and your drumming!
I've got a Ludwig kit with a 26in kick looking to add myself a set of roto toms to give me a few more options.....thanks for the video
and for whom will you play? the mirror
Para o forró elétrico atual eletrônico esses kits é o ideal, pra que bateria?!
Awesome drumming skills 👏 👌 😎 I like the techniques of jazz drumming. Very different from rock drumming.
OK sounds great keep it up that’s what they call having fun.
Great sound and demo ! how do you fix them actually ?
Why do they all sound the same
Attn drum nerds, go check out Missing Persons at the 1982 US Festival. Terry Bozzio plays a killer rototom kit.
everythings tuned well and mix sounds great man
Nice chops man!
China Boy sounds awesome!
Damn I wish a set of rototoms like that. Big sizes!
Sounds great bro!
Was waiting for you to hit the SDSV pads 😂
Better recording than most. Most roto recordings sound totally thin and weak. These have some low end.
Yeah I think I did okay. Not entirely happy though. It's difficult to get that really low boom out of the 16 and 18. I suspect that is why the bigger ones are hard to find, the smaller ones work better and are more easy to tune.
I dont hear it. Honestly. Maybe its me
Absolutely love it.

Que som Gigante !
Where can I buy this set,,
Well the big ones (16" and 18") are hard to find, at least the Remo original ones. 6-14" are still made as far as I know.
@@hexadecimalcode ok thanks I will look around where should they be,,, thanks
What drums heads did you slap on those?

Yeah I found a guy in Sweden who used them on tour in the late 70's. I have a 8" as well.
Hi, What heads were you using on the rototoms?
In this video Remo pinstripes. Not my favorite though. I like the Remo CS "black dots" better.
incredible man, all sound amazing and your drumming is fantastic, all sound like a dream cymbals and snare, remember me andy ward of camel, incredible, dont play more jazz is better for you.....
Drumming is fine. All Tom's sound same to me
Great playing and sound! What ride cymbal are you using? Sounds delicious!
Thanks! I think it was a 22" UFIP Ride/crash. Early 80's
The china cymbal is intresting…what it is?
I think its a 16" Wuhan

same idea here, but I could not find ANY roto-samples in any drum-engine. let me know if you found some.

@@laser5able wow, that is awesome - megaTHX
Beautiful !!!
Tune them higher
Where did you find such large sizes? The biggest I can find is a 12"
Skyler McCarthy They are a bit rare yes.
Look on eBay and other sites for used eqipment. The 16” and 18” are the rarest, you have to go vintage.
Are those Remo rototoms? And how did you manage to attatch them to the stands? They sound great by the way.
Bra gjort! :D

I don't know why you said all your jazz have gone wrong. You sound like Bill Bruford.
Sounds like when Phil used them with Brand X
It’s got that missing persons sound.what are words for.
Awesome! 👍
They sound incredible! Not digging the snare so much though, too boxy
Yeah that TRAK looks nice but is hard to tune... Old heads in this video as well.
Is it me? Or are everyone of those Roto Tom's tunes to the same note?
That 18" roto is like....wow
Yep! A bit hard to find, and recording them is even more tricky. They tend to be all attack and not enough low end, but if you get it right they're a real treat to have in the studio.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I dig it
Trak...wow.
They sound like garage doors.
Very simple beat.....
I used the Roto Toms 6" - 18" from 1979 till 1981. I liked them and their sound very much. But in 1982 I sold them to another drummer. Stupid!!!!
Well they have a quite narrow area of use... Imagine showing up for a modern pop-session with a pile of nostalgic prog-drums...
I use mine reasonably often though.
OMG OMG OMG
Ou a bateria eletrônica
those are some low rotos
tre, emdp ataque el de los toms
Using rom toms on drums with drums is not so good and i don't see any drummers doing that on stage
😂😂😂😂... toca bien; pero los rotos suenan igual todos... 😂😂😂😂🤷🏻♂️
