- We bought a 230 year old Alpine Chalet, dismantled it, and rebuilt it in ONE DAY. Today we make our new garden folly water-tight and answer some of our followers questions!
We live in a medieval castle with a huge, derelict estate in southern France. Follow our ambitious garden projects, from vineyards to formal gardens, tropical plants to self-sustainability. Our project is enormous and our enthusiasm contagious. We'd love you to join us.

The old Chalet is a wonderful addition to your land - I’m glad for Marc’s commitment to maintaining it’s historic integrity.
200 years old, perfectly ripened and tasty. What a treasure. Glad you are saving it.
What a wonderful childhood you're giving your precious children.
Can not blame marc not putting a different door on the chalet for covinience because it just would spoil the intergrity of the historical building 😊😊❤❤ 😊
What a beautiful garden shed it makes! And I’m so glad you have another to make into a little house for yourselves.
Your chalet is lovely, and Juliet is so sweet climbing in and out! Thanks for taking us along on the adventure!
Thanks for coming along!
Your vlogs are always different and show us interesting things. You certainly have vision Marc lol🤗
Please everyone subscribe so this lovely family will continue these amazing videos. The garden shed is beautiful including that very special head ducking door. I watch Martijn Doolard who is restoring two stone cottages (with low doors) in the Italian Alps. He replaced the large slab stone roof with a new one from the stone on his land. It looks like the roof you were talking about Marc. He too, is doing everything to preserve the old. ❤️❤️❤️
I love his channel!
Great to have that family getaway project for the future 😊
Super fun to watch this project.
What a wonderful addition to your garden and home. Good to know there are people who respect the history of old buildings. And we all will say ouch each time you bump you heads
I'm picturing Juliette and Clement's grandchildren playing in the new old chalet 80 years from now.
Clement always wants to help out and be involved. Juliette is becoming more able to help as well and loves to be where the action is. They are a joy to watch 🥰
How great that you bought both. The children are at the right age to enjoy the other one for years to come. Best wishes.
I love that Mark bought both of them, family camping spot is perfect!
What a cutesy Juliette is growing into, your children have such a sense of adventure x
What a lovely chalet, Marc is quite a worker, right.
Ana is so calm and clear in her explanation.
Good luck to all.
It’s beautiful and so characterful. The door is amazing.
Such a perfect addition to the Chateau 😊
😊 Your place gets more beautiful all the time. And loved watching Juliette!
Good for you buying two. Excellent decision.
I am enjoying the history. Keep vloging & TY for sharing.
Love the idea of the second chalet! ❤❤
We're really looking forward to it too!
Terrific episode. I’m excited to see the next one!
So glad you were able to buy the second chalet. Even more special is that it will be tucked away in the woods as your children's very own enchanted cottage. What great memories they will make there on family camping trips.
Such beautiful buildings, thank you for preserving them!
It's such a pleasure to do so!
Such a great project that frees up kitchen space too. A win / win for everybody!
Those Swiss are serious builders! Their buildings last as long as the European chateaux.
It's French! (I keep calling it Swiss and getting told off by Marc)
As you were talking about the floor, I was thinking of the possibility & difficulty of digging out the center for a lower floor, while leaving & adding to the granite support (those gaps). This way would create granite ledges for storage. Possibly a gravity fed sink for cleaning the tools? Another idea would be to build a roof over cover like she had at her previous residence, like a carport or Porte cochere? It could even have 3 sides in order to protect her from harsh wind & weather! Because she is an older lady in the twilight of her life & helping to protect her remaining beauty would most likely be advantageous!
This building really is beautiful❤!!!
Yay! There IS another one for a family playhouse- in the woods, no less❤
Thanks for answering all the questions and for finishing off the video with that darling footage of Juliette in the doorway🥰
Love this little cabin. Do you follow Martijin Doolaard? He's been building in northen Italy and has put a slate roof on his cabins. Thanks for sharing with us today.
As soon as I saw the flat stones, I thought of Martijin Doolaard as well. 👍
Little Juliette is so sweet. ❤❤❤❤
Wonderful to see the Chalet shed up. How exciting to have another ancient building for your family. I'm very envious but very happy for you all. I have enjoyed watching your videos and dreaming of being in France. For now we are in Australie.
split wood "tiles" = shingles
Ahhhhh that’s it. I couldn’t think!
Also, wood shingles are sometimes referred to as shakes.
In New England Cedar shingles are a common siding material. White Cedar shingles will last 40 + years. Shakes for roofs are also a special process for roofing. The TV show This Old House is the best for this type of questions. Very professional.
Marc, I am so proud of you for maintaining this 200 year old building. The idea of cutting a taller door way is horrific!
Love the old Chalet as a garden tool shed. How wonderful that you got the second one as well. It will be the source of many wonderful family memories and adventures 😍😘
So happy for Marc having his own garden shed, he is so excited about it. Thank you for the Q&A....so much fun and loved the history of the shed. Congratulations for purchasing another for the family.....that will be fun!!!
Thank you so much for the additional information - it’s as if you read my mind! (Or perhaps all the comments from people who asked what I was wondering. 😉)
I’m so glad that you got a second one for a woodland getaway. That sounds absolutely perfect! ♥️♥️♥️
Such a find. It’s beautiful
LOVE the mazot and your love of preserving and repurposing history! Brilliant idea for the second too❤
So happy you were able to buy both chalets! They are amazing and treasures! Love seeing Clement and Juliette helping Marc. ❤
It is such a good garden shed, it should last another 100 years
Hopefully more!
Thank you for. ShRing😊
The chalet shed is absolutely gorgeous. You are saving history and making more history. How wonderful is
that? Juliette and Clement are growing so fast.❤
Thanks Peter!
So…how envious are we? The Mazot is fabulous…
It’s beautiful
Absolutely love that you are reusing something with its own history to complement the rest of the Chateau buildings.
The second storey is perfect for storing less used tools and equipment. This is what we do at home. My garden tools are in the garage and we are lucky enough to have a boarded ‘loft’ which we use for spares, bean net, fleece etc. Far better than the kitchen. Poor Amy!
The content of your videos are always so interesting and I have to say you are one of my favourite. Your love of history and the care which you give the Chateau is so rewarding for you and for us to watch. What a charming family you have. Best wishes.
I’m with you, Mark! You admired it as it was originally so don’t muck it up by making changes (leave the door as it is!)!
That's wonderful look forward to seeing the family chalet being built 🤗👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🌹💐🌹
Love Sue❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
I read that King Charles had one of these shepherds huts installed at high Grove for prince George on his first birthday and that it's been used as a playhouse for George, Charlotte, and Louis.
Another very cool garden project! You built it like an ancient Ikea flat pack DIY shed. Im with Amy on the stone floor. If you're going to build stone foundations under the walls, a few more stones can't be that much more work.😉
Wonderful chalet :-) It would also have made an awesome shelter, but fits the old garden really well :-)
10:13 “Shingles”… I think that’s what the wooden roof ‘tiles’ are called. Such a lovely building! I’m with you… put up with the low door. I’m desperate to see the next stage of the glasshouse (both lean-to and tropical!!).
Heading back to the greenhouse next week!
I love this little house. I can perfectly understand why Marc wanted one. It is perfect as a garden shed. And it is wonderful that it despite its age still can be used, and not left as a museum artifact. And how amazing that you have bought another one for the family ❤ Good decicion! 👏 In Sweden where I´m originally from, we have a lot of these old houses in the countryside. I love them. And watching them now on the video, I can almost smell them. They have this very special smell of old warm wooden house. Congrats to the 2 new chateau additions ❤
Hello from Texas!
Thank you for answering all our questions! And delighted you will have a "play house" as well😊.
Hooray!!! Marc got a (well deserved) shed!🥳 Every garden needs one or things end up living in the kitchen. Like at my house, too. 😘 Juliette has the most beautiful curls!
What a unique garden shed! Hope you get some good weather this summer to enjoy it!
Beautiful chalet. Love seeing your progress on your projects. Much love to you all ❤
Will you be putting in a timber floor in the chalet and complete the stone foundation at the back of the chalet (to keep some of small animals who might seek shelter there)?
What a lovely re-build....bringing history back to life.
Good on you Marc! What a beautiful old structure, so beautifully built. A kit shed from the hardware store would just be wrong at an ancient chateau. You're an ideas man, thinking outside the square. 👏👏👏
Wonderful location for The folly amongst the trees. Great idea to find an authentic building that matches close to the age of the château. Your efforts have definitely not been in vain!
So good!
It is a fabulous historic building & should be kept safely & to continue to preserve it as well as making it useful. Just remember to hunker down when entering & exiting 😊❤
I’m so pleased you continued with your channel and even expanded to two channels as I love following your adventures xx
"Лобаз" для хранения продуктов питания, он ставился на высокие столбы, опоры.
BEST
Beautiful building, cedar shingles would be nice too! Great idea with the slate!
Fabulous 😀
Awesome idea and find guys. Garden shed is amazing and I loved Josephine’s history behind the idea!! ❤🎉
Short door but it must be 3" thick! Beautiful old growth wood cannot be replaced.
So excited that he bought both. Great fun. Thinking that build should happen while the carpenters are available, since they know how it came apart ....and their marks show the way it goes together.
Besides camping with the kids, guest house, man/she cave.... 😍😘
that view 😍
What a adventure 😊 clement is such a hard worker so cute 😊❤all the best hugs and love ❤
Very good news about the other chalet.
You could let it for glamping.
I love that youre always coming up with unique projects to preserve the past.
I just love your chalet. I love the fern leaves on Marc T shirt. It reminds me of all the different ferns in my garden. There are enormous and tiny ones which grow wild around the mountains which surround me.
The Mazo is a beautiful building, I’m so glad you are planning on keeping it in near original condition
What an incredible little garden shed. I love the bench at the front.
Most interesting. Thank you for the tour. Great purchasing with another treat in store.
Ooo I’d love to camp in one of these! I stayed at a place in hew Hampshire US that had Adirondack cabins which were about that size but open on 3 sides with canvas walls you could drop at night. It was such a neat experience.
What marvelous fun.
LOVE this channel!
Gorgeous!
🥰🥰🥰🥰
Your shed is gorgeous. Awesome character.
To me it looked as if ther was a "first floor" in there, how are you planning on using that? Or will that just stay empty? Ah, obviously I wasn't paying proper attention. It's such a beautiful structure
I love the chalet and what you are doing with your property. Great work and good luck from New Zealand 🥰🥰
I didn't realise you have 2 channels! Where have I been 😂❤😊🇦🇺
Your commitment to preserve this structure is impressive. Love the carved hearts in the door and the bench addition from the beam extensions. What were the beam extensions used for midway up the structure?
What a amazing structure…id love to find one 😂❤
They're often for sale on leboncoin!
Such a lovely addition to your home ❤🎉❤
Love the size of the key 🗝️ and the lock . I'm wondering how old are the hearts on the little door , can't wait to see the next project.dare I ask if you have moved into the coach house yet ? it's amazing how you find all these beautiful things to make your gardens look just as old as the chateau xxx
the chalet would make a nice gardeners cottage ...maybe? any volunteers out there
Ha ha they'd have to coexist with Marc's extensive farm tool collection.
What an unusual but fascinating vlog from you both. How exciting to have the space to indulge in this project. I love them, especially with the history attached. Sorry about Marks predicament, I imagine it's torture for him, but I remember all those gardening volumes he purchased at auction a while back. Perhaps he is able loose himself in those whilst recovering. ❤WCL
So beautiful!
So intriguing, love it!
👋👍❤️
Loving these videos!
Love this so much!!❤
