G'day Kernzy P,
I have watched this lengthy 52 minute video twice now, and still find your skill hard to fathom. No, I don't doubt you are doing what I see you doing, and I know this game damn well. You are simply in another league altogether........from almost everybody. Your understanding of the creatures movements, your timing, your repeated optimisation of score, put all together - brilliant. Bombjack is my favourite arcade game ever; I was 15 years old when it came out here in Australia. I have had MAME for many years now, and have played this game a lot in recent years, but watching you just take it apart is almost demoralising you're so bloody good.
Your ego must be solid if other comments haven't affected you much, but I reckon you have every right to feel aptly proud. This game is not easy, even with practice, even with studying the play. You still have to execute, and you do that with exemplary precision and panache!! I am honestly not that easily impressed, but look.....you've caused me to go on and on here like a pathetically besotted fanboy. Just so, so well done....thanks for sharing!

Obviously, you must know the in's and out's of this game to recognize them. And only when you know them, the game becomes superb, and harmony can begin!
This game had a hold of me from the start, and I was rubbish. really crap. There was something I liked, so I played more. Met some other more advanced players, and learned a trick or two. Then, the slave becomes the master, lol!
After 30 years, this game has me coming back for more fun. It has such variety and diversity that people who never played long enough know about. It's more complicated than they think to get it all right.
There are others who are good, too. I am not alone!

We had a code of practice. Get 1 million by round 9. I ended up with it by round seven. Such a great game, can't believe it isn't the new Donkey Kong.

@@kernzyp No way. Round 7 for a million. that's a lot of work. So cool. And yeh, totally, the pizza parlour in town that had all the games hated seeing me come in because they knew they weren't going to make anymore money out of me than maybe 3 X 20c coins. This vid got me inspired and I have been checking out all the other ones I remember like elevator action, moon patrol, hyper olympics, joust, galaga, asteroids, dragons lair, frogger, and all the others I used to pump my paper round money into :).

Oh man, I used to play exactly the same way; milk out the 'B's by shaking down the walls, get the 'P' on grey for highest score, get the score just below 5000 so a 'B' would come out immediately in the next round. The flying sauces were tame as all heck, then they would just get insanely fast. The screw head things were the worst. We had a game in my home town in Maryborough Victoria Australia and I played a game all day once, got up to 30 million before they had to close the shop, I didn't know how many free men I had but I could have kept playing.

You could literally play forever. My neck used to hurt first, looking down all the time.
For anyone who has played this game, you have to appreciate the absolute clinical pixel perfect precision and timing of movement with this play through. I have been playing this for a few weeks on a classic table top arcade set up with my brother, we are addicted to this game. I have cracked 400k at level 11 thinking this was pretty good. But what I just saw on this video play through was just insane. Absolutely bossed it!

@@kernzyp hi mate, yes still playing, although not as often. I’ve got to 910k to date. This seems to be my threshold atm. Can get to 700-800k with a solid routine play through but just make costly mistakes that take lives! Hoping to crack the 1m points mark soon!

I used to run a youth centre/arcade, with an Original Cabinet Bomb Jack that I paid $25k for in 1999. Opened up one particular Saturday at mid-day, popped in a 20c, and away I went. Some young teenagers who were also good at the game, came in ½ hour or so later, so we started taking "turns". Closed at midnight & turned the game off. The four of us had reached level 1180, & had a score of over 30 million.

In 1985 I got to round 765 with a score of 27 million. You couldn't have done any bonus runs at all at 1,180 rounds?
I started at 12.30, then kids came in from school and put their money in, then said "Woah! Look at all those extra men!!" They were heartbroken when their lunch time ended, and went back to school. They were amazed when they came back after school and I was still playing, and said "We can still play our credits!", then they had to go home for dinner!! 7.5 hours.

Very shiny performance indeed, 4.88 million with 1 player! It was a nice game, I always played it in my favourite pub, starting at 19:00 and ending in 01:00 pm, with one coin and several lives and extra games (S). I would say it would have been a hard struggle between us...🙂 Back in 1986...

Crazy skills! In the 80s me and my brother used to ride our BMXs 5 miles to the train station just to play this, if we had been able to watch this video our 10ps would have lasted MUCH longer hahaaa!

I remember getting a 2 million score many years ago. You are a genius
this is not bad this game and underrated. reflexes have to be good. i maintain that zookeeper is one of the toughest games to play and get a high score on and get to many boards as much as any.
Found this by accident, used to play jack along southend seafront in the mid/late 80's. Loved it, had 2 machines both on different settings, around the 2.8mil on one, probably 60mil on the other. I remember getting the 50k for first screen was like a nice 'perfect' score, tapping the sides became 2nd nature, i remember friends used to gather to watch the 'boring' player bounce around the screen, they didn't realise the advantages of the bonus and getting the spinner on silver.

Pike KC google "x-arcade dual". that's what i use. just as good as arcade controls. i have not played a real cab in 25 years. hope your friend does well. there is already a good arcade in southend, about a year or 2 old. do you know it?
I remember my high score was 2.996m must have been around level 40ish, as I watch your replay i remember all the little things to get the next bonus to appear at the 5k mark etc etc
I have to admit, by around level 35 I was using the spinner to clear bombs on some of the levels rather than worrying about getting the silver spinner to maximise points. Oh and I'd lost all of my lives by then too. I had the high score on both machines in southend - but you are on a different planet, back then I woulda loved to play you doubles, maybe given you a run for your money ;-)
yeah, you sound as good as i was back then. i started playing again about 6 years ago on MAME. you should get it. much fun to be had. any game you like!!
The one i mentioned 'Astro city' is about a year old.... Up several flights of stairs, real old school feel to it...

Can't believe what i just witnessed. This game is so hard when i played back in the arcade, just finishing the levels was hard enough but to keep getting all those bonuses is just unfathomable. I bet even the game creators never imagined somebody would play this godly. It must have taken years of practice to get to this level.

Played it back then in 1984 as a kid at the age of 12 or 13. I was not so bad in it, and able to play it after a lot of practise for hours with one coin. Now I play it again for a few weeks, but your skills are far beyond impressive. You are one of this genius player like for other games like Donkey Kong or Galaga etc.

There were 3 of us in 1986/7 who were very good and we played together, getting between 3 and 7 million sometimes. then one day, I played a different machine, and got 26 million, 600 rounds, 7.5 hours. when i met the other two, they both also got over 20 million that same weekend. Amazing weirdness.

Yeah. Getting close to 1 mil on this, you make it look so easy.
If you can get a million you can get 10 million.
Easy way is to eat as many bombs that are lit to get the P out, then clear other bombs when you get the P. Do this on all hard rounds. Good luck!

I only got 1.500 .000 every play, but i could play with a friend at same time he use the joystick and i use the jump button at the same time and we got over 1 000 000 points; 2 player one game.

Masterful performance! I enjoyed watching even though it was a huge blow to my ego. I thought I was a pretty good player up until seeing this. I thought if I got through level 5 with about 300K I was maximizing points (you had like 700K). What's the highest score you've gotten and what was highest level? Also, how long have you been seriously playing? Again, hats off to you Kernzy!

Started playing in 1984. I was useless. played on arcade until 1988, I scored 26 million, took 7 hours.
Highest score on MAME is 76 million, took 16 hours. Got to about 700 levels.

Indeed. I go for 3 p's on round 15 instead. If I go for 3 on 10, it messes with the momentum and ruins it for round 11. On round 11, I need the P in the box early to achieve 50,000 bonus without a death. Which then leaves me perfect for round 12, which can be nasty. Early P's needed, so always end that way.

Looking at this takes me way back , I don’t want to sound big headed but I was as good , as far as I know the jumping and bouncing off the walls was something I believe I introduced in our area certainly along with a kind of typewriter instead of the usual jumper over ur hand back and forwards over the buttons wile playing track and field , I would love to play this again in this format also as if and I honestly think I would give at the least some competition , is this played on a coin op oldskool machine , how can I play this faithful game , it does have to be said that you have game indeed , maybe 2 player when iv had a little practice and ooooh the joys when the special free game token came out and you got it you felt like you had wore an fa cup final medal lol , really enjoyed this thank you

You can play again. This is a program called MAME. It emulates every arcade game. I use an X-Arcade dual joystick, and it's better than some arcade controls of the 80's.

@@kernzyp I’m honestly not being big headed if someone in a conversation about old coin ops or any oldskool games for example and hadn’t seen this video and you hadn’t played for 3 decades what would you say , iv not taken anything from you it’s impressive play and I only said I may be after practice at least some competition not that I would blow you out of the water or something derisory , personally I love a bit of friendly competition for me it’s about simply playing well not stomping all before me turbo blaster style , thanx for the info I’ll see what I can sort out as I loved the game I may even aim for the coin op just for that authentic touch keep playing and enjoying the game for me one of the best games ever and I’ve played most and thanx for replying

Played from 1984 at school, got 27 million in 1987. Never played again until 2008 using keyboard, got X-Arcade in 2014 then played HAAAARD !!

Must correct myself, were "only" 3.9 millions...🙂. But I don't think that this was world record in my times in the 80s...but as far as my game is concerned I did not get so often the full bonus. But 40 rounds without to die, this has happened for sure in some evenings...If I remember correctly, it was not possible to get more than 17-20 millions before pub closed...

Dog Cat always moves towards you, moving only up/down/left/right.
like a Rook in chess.

My best was erery time 1 000 000 or more, some time i came to play, but my friend bomb jack hanging around; but this saturday night, i dont know; highscore 50.000.000 but the game works , he found a posion to mak this game into a "pause" mode.
You mean he watched my video's?? ;) Some rounds on the screens with the square platform, you can trap the enemies inside, then go for a piss!
