I have never witnessed such a personal and tragic story provided with such honesty, sensitivity and tolerance , realizing the various indirect victims besides his brother and not making judgements on the circumstances of the various tragic acts. When I heard the circumstances of the murder I couldn't help recall the revelations about so called charity workers, including the Red Cross, sexually exploiting youngsters who were victims of a natural disaster in Haiti. This is not blaming the victim, this is being alert to what people with power over others can do and how it can be covered up, sometimes for decades.

What a thought-provoking documentary conducted with respect, dignity, and tolerance. I, like most people, felt the outcome was appalling and unsatisfactory. Apete, should have served a very very long time in prison, the justice system has failed Scott's family. May Greg and John rest in peace.

This was very profound on so very many levels. Living in the U.S. a week or so after an attempted coup, my fascination with the colonials in spite of hating their hubris and exploitation of others, my growing disdain for the religion in which I was inculcated, and frustration with the hypocracy of those who think they have an absolute right to dictate how others live , this film documentary touched on all of these.

Your comment does not reflect the documentary with the least bit of accuracy. Take off your biased glasses, check yourself, and watch it again. However, if you are unable in the least to critically assess that which is fed to you, perhaps the effort would just be a waste.

I really didn't expect this excellent documentary when I clicked on this. A good example of colonial missionary preaching and moralising coming back to bite you. Thanks a lot for uploading this , I learnt a lot. Btw an very worthy book which have many tales of the South Pacific in the colonial period is the Complete works of Jack London.
Whenever i came across those stories, it's irritated me, how those bastards invaded the world and charmingly belittle our ancestors, abusing their gratitude and oppressed them, divided the sub and take advantage over the native.

I almost ignored this documentary. Thank goodness I watched it. I highly recommend it, not that I liked the outcome, but it is truly a wonderful documentary, music and all.

This was extremely heartbreaking to watch. I was just a kid when John and Greg died and was ignorant of the facts of this case. Today I just learnt where they were murdered. I go past it everyday on my way to work and didn't even know it....

Such a remarkable documentary, narrated with such honesty, tolerance and without judgement. I say this because its difficult to ignore what the producers are clearly not telling you about the underlying motive for this dastardly crime. Legally, I think justice was not served to the two victims (RIP) and he should have been charged with premeditated murder. If motive had been the element for the crime of murder (which it is not) then I agree with the prosecutor that the verdict was overwhelmingly satisfactory. I applaud the producers, and particularly Owen, for courageously exploring all sides of this tragic story which has left me with the 'fuckbuddy gone wrong' scenario, and as such left me feeling compassionate towards Apete for the trauma he had tried to suppress but that was triggered when he watched the lone figure of John in his Red Cross vest and being lauded as an angel. Anyone who has understood someone struggling to survive a traumatic past of being groomed as an impressionable teenager for sex and idolizing your abuser and then being rejected will know what a volatile cocktail it stirs in someone once they realize the shame and guilt of what they allowed. Tragic outcome for all involved.

Right? People are not generally happy to be colonized.
Colonization has a lot of benefits for the colony in question. They get technology, education and military protection from a more advanced culture (if the colonizer wasn't more advanced than the other country wouldn't have become their colony).
In material terms it makes complete sense that people would accept colonization. The reason people typically dispute colonial claims are for non-material reasons, typically philosophical or cultural in nature

Colonialism was no such thing, and allowed for some relative autonomy and symbiosis. Despite conflict and power struggles, it also was not a product of invasion, as were the previous examples given, and also the expansions by invasion of the more recent totalitarian Communist and fascist states of the USSR and (defeated) Nazis and Imperialist Japan.

By the end of the documentary they given up on putting subtitles on the indigenan's. This fact was BODERING ME. WHY did someone choosed to subtitle only them when all of them talk in perfect english? The murderer's mother speaks perfectly clear. Then some brit would talk and you could barely undertand... but there was no subtitles.
As a Christian myself in my own understanding of the bible.
