This song, is among the greatest black metal songs...maybe even the best out there. Soo many people listen to this song and then find out how melodic black metal can be....not about Satan and all that other crap. It's about creating atmosphere that is soothing but yet so extreme. Emperor are legend's!!
I don't know HOW Ihsahn does vocals like that! I've been trying for so long to figure it out, and no matter how much I warm up, I can't get it loud enough without gagging. His throat must simply be rawhide.
If Ihsahn is perhaps reading our comments, I would like him to know that he's giving me the inspiraton to attend the University of Oslo and drive forward a black metal career in Norway. I love this song, so fast and still melodic. It's the song that got me into listening to black metal. At first it was so strange and different from the other forms of metal I listened to but after a few listens I got the atmosphere.
I remember getting In The Nightside Eclipse when it was first released, I still have the vinyl. This album stood out even back then, there was no other like it at the time. Today it still remains one of my all time favorites and I still feel the same impact as I did when I first got it 15 years ago back in 1994.

fair enough man, the thing is, people judge nile heavily by watching these 'betcha cant play this' videos and stuff where the guitarists are really in their element. seriously, you wouldnt be saying they sucked if you tried to play some of the riffs. and you're right about the drummer. probably the best in modern metal imo

This is the song that got me into Metal altogether. Some guy was trying to get me into Metal by listening to Slipknot, I hated it, and I found this instead. That was the best day of my life.
Weakling, limbonic art, capathian forests, COF (earlier albums), and loads of other bands have this beautiful dark black metal sound. Most of them aren't known. And there are a few german bands that I can't think of right now that give off a chilling black metal sound. Keep searching. ;]

Emperor does. They're the ones that broke new ground with their sound while still staying "true", which was always the issue in those days. Dimmu had something going with their first two albums but... shame really because "For All Tid" is really pretty amazing.
Yes immortal cracks me up too. The music is awesome and he does the funny crab walk all the time! I personally think that image is important because image compliments the music. It gives it more depth and meaning. I'm a particularly big fan of gothic corpse paint or just plain gothic make-up. I love pure corpse paint too but only if it's exotic. For some, they don't care, but people like me are very visual and literally see the dark image a band has created while listening to the music.
My life changed when I accidentally recieved a black sabbath double live album. It changed again when my freind gave me this album. Emperor never beat In the Nightside Eclipse, but I hail them because this material is just so F'ng majestic and awesome. This is what black metal is really about.

As the musicians get older it feeds the fuel for the fire of black metal to burn on. They skill kick as much ass now as they did back in the 90s.
