I love my at home business! My clients feel safe and relaxed, get a service they can’t get at the other salons in the area, and I get to have a flexible schedule that works with my busy life. No commute, no rent, no extra stress.
i started at home and never would rent a space, im a legit licensed home based salon, its cheaper for me by far, i can write off so many things on my taxes.and my clients like the fact im at home its not a busy salon with the person next to you hearing all your business.....to each their own....i do stalk my clients social media profiles and deny anyone that looks sketchy.
The state of Florida has a new legislation (since 2021) allowing beauty industry professionals (nails, hair, spa, makeup) to be able to work from a non commercial/ non licensed dwelling so long as the individual themselves are licensed. I've ran my nail business very successfully since then and as a gel only salon we don't have the acrylic odor from shared spaces in a public building. There are pros and cons on every situation, each has to weight them, see what works best and find a niche.
Personally I don’t feel comfortable going to someone house for services. I only do my hair with a hair stylist but because it was highly recommended by a good friend who has been getting her hair with this stylist over 20 years but that’s where I draw the line. I totally get why someone would not be comfortable unless they have been your loyal client for years. I agree with the video is just not the same premium experience you would expect for a high end service.
It is so expensive. Unfortunately, I don’t have a choice but to do an at home business. I’m photosensitive and can’t handle regular lighting or outdoor lighting. Luckily I have been able to make my home fit the laws. Thankfully but so know I’m still gonna have some trouble.
I'm a prospective client looking for a certain look that I can't seem to get when I go to a nail salon. So often there's so much trickery, racism, back stabbing, and dishonesty happening at nail salons. I would LOVE to go get my nails done at a home of someone who acts professional, the being professional is key for me it's not very often that people are. You get nasty attitudes, rudeness, only being nice to you if they think you have money, only being nice to white people in the salon... I could go on but you get it. I would love to have the service and not have to listen to other client's screaming kids or nail artists shouting across the room in another language making me feel uncomfortable. Women are looking for a professional spa like environment. As long as I could get the look I wanted and it'a clean nice environment with no screaming kids, the tech could do it outside for all I care.
Unfortunately the pandemic pushed alot of licensed manicurist and stylist to home based salon. I know stylist, that charge more than they did in the salon and they sre busiet than they were in the salon. (Although i do belytnis is not the norm.)
