Great pics, brings back so many memories. 3 generations of my family along with uncles and cousins made their living in the iron and steel industry, starting with Bolckow and Vaughn and ending with Corus. So sad to see it all gone.
The only way channels like this work is if the 'now' photo is taken from exactly the same spot as the the 'then' photo. You've done this superbly well, shows tremendous local knowledge and attention to detail.
The man facing the camera at 12.33 is my Grandad. I remember this so vividly and seeing him there has made me rather emotional, as it is one of the last pictures taken of him. Thank you. Ive been looking for this picture and the other footage taken of him around the plane crash for a long time and found nothing. Please could you tell me where you found this picture. Me and my Dad would be very grateful.
Hello linzi. I am almost certain i came across the picture of your Grandad from an article that appeared in the ‘Remember When’ paper that the Evening Gazette used to publish. I do not have the paper myself but Some libraries may still have past editions still on their shelves, i know Redcar library used to have a few if that’s any help. In the meantime i will also do my best to try and come across the original source and hopefully let you know. I’m really glad you came across the video linzi and i hope it was a happy emotion when you saw your Grandad.
@@MadeInGrangetown ohh thankyou so much for replying with this information 😄it was a mixture of emotions from shock to happiness, sadness, and relief at finally finding it. But it did spur some joyful memories I forgot I had and for that I am so grateful to you. Thank you so much.
@@linzirodger8255 And a big Thankyou to you too. I am so glad to hear the picture brought back some lovely memories for you. Fingers crossed i will be in touch if i find the article. Thankyou for watching linzi and i do apologise for the delay in replying.
started at warrenby works as office boy ,then started my apprentice ship fitter/turner 1961 ,finished my apprentice ship at cleveland works power station thompson boilers ,ended up shift engineer till cleveland shut down in1990 then to redcar power station till 2000 and taken early retirement ,enjoyed all this time and met many people through my working life ,
@captain pugwash remember it well, got many stories can tell you ,remember the time when uclid backed onto is yellow cortina ? so whats your name ,did you work
F@%king great .im born an bread from Redcar and now live in London but I love this sh%t . Grangetown is neither there or here as in half way between boro and Redcar . I worked in Eston square as a young one .the government definitely forgot about our neck of the woods . All hail teeside.parmo's are still the best grub that has ever passed my lips . Introduced by an American who settled here .go figure.
Brilliant use of Mazzy Starr to add melancholy to the opening scenes, but as someone who worked there, now the jobs have gone so should the infrastructure.
I hate the way politicians of all parties throw the area to the dogs when the heavy industry has gone. While its up and running, there's a fair trade off of an uglyish vista for jobs but no effort is made to bring the place back up to scratch when its gone and the people who did the graft are left with no work and a wasteland.
Gosh look what we've lost. I know things change and nothing stays the same - some call it progress but I don't. To rid a country of its ability to survive and remove the tools to grow, it weakens that country and kills it off. Teesside is an incredible sight, even today but just look at the destruction and loss of employment and industry. It saddens me terribly.
Thankyou for watching my video. The change that has taken place just in my lifetime blows my mind. Older people than me have experienced the real loss and change of the area which at its peak was a big part of the UK's overall GDP because of all its heavy industries and all in such a small area compared to all the other much older and bigger towns & cities in the UK.
So much progress and all swept away. It’s a sad ending to what has become a regular feature of this once proud country. Political and Economic failure across the board with whole communities abandoned.

My dad used to take us to see all the industry when I was a kid, it's sad to see it all disappearing. Great clips lovely to see. 👌💜
Hauntingly sad, beautiful and scarey all at the same time. Lovely music and great placement of the transitions to show the changes.

What the council government ever done for us the people who worked in these places. A shocking waste of life’s. 😭
Looks like it used to be an industrial powerhouse, where did it all go ? It's rather sad.

Soooooooooo much heavy industry lost ..
What a crying shame .
A far cry from its heyday.

Now the Dorman long tower has gone
And to think some working people voted Tory!
