Since a kid (am 50Yrs old now) I've always loved the E-Type.. But then in 2015 when Clarkson showed off the Eagle E-Type on TopGear, I fell in love all over again. It was a similar feeling with the DB5, and years later (I think on TG again), they showed of a car that was a 'Ground up restomod' of the DB5, looking exactly the same, rebuilt and tuned engine, but, with modern brakes, suspension and other bits to bring it more up to date (similar to what Singer do to the Porsche 011's)... By far, the best restomod of a Jaguar XKE I’ve seen. My own personal take on what was shown would be dual exhaust pipes at each back corners of car, matching wooden handle of the e-brake to the wooden steering, up and down option of the steering wheel to driver’s preference. Again, my own preference, but man, what a beautifully done car.

Thanks for sharing Dave. My father, then myself owned a 1963 XKE OTS for 44 years. Driving and racing it in the late 1960’s was the high point of my car life. Compared to its contemporaries, it was in a league of its own. No American car would go 150 mph stock until the Corvette got the big block. The jag 4 wheel Dunlop disc brakes were not as strong as one would like, but they handled high speeds and repeated stops better than everybody else’s drum brakes. Only my 356 Porsches had better brakes. The independent suspension was better on less than perfect roads than the solid axle competition. There was less wheelspin, too. I thought that the clutch was fairly weak and prone to judder unless driven carefully. The American clutches were much better. The Moss gearbox was an acquired taste. Dating back to the XK 120, the slow deliberate shift, weak syncros, and non syncro first gear required a perceptive and skilled driver to master. Power steering would have really helped in low speed maneuvers, especially with the then new radial tires that were commonly retrofit. Radial tires increased the already weighty steering effort. At the time of its introduction, there really was nothing like the E type. And even today the design still creates visual excitement even to people who are not concerned with automobiles. Of course a new Honda works better in almost every way. But such is progress.
I've have owned a 1963 Series One Roadster for just over 22 years and while it has only just over 43,000 miles on it, its time for a little restoration. Would love to have air on it and a better gearbox, but don't know if I could actually upgrade it.

As has been commented by others, Eagle perform this same service, so that a series 1, 2 or 3 can be upgraded and modernised. As the modifications are bespoke, the extent of the work is up to the customer. I’m guessing E-type UK do the same. I have a modestly upgraded S2 roadster from Eagle, and took it in a 3000 mile trans- European road trip this summer. It was an epic journey.....
Close, perfect e type would have the s1 lightweight body panels and Dunlop knock offs with the lister stroker v12. With a getrag 6spd. Yes I’ve seen one and it was jaw dropping to drive and hear and look at
I was thinking exactly the same thing, to be honest I would want to put Series 1 front and rear bumpers and make it simply look like a widened Series 1 E-Type. It does look stunning though, brilliant spec.
I’d love all these mods on a Series 1. Including that V12, which I hear can be bored & stroked to beyond 7 litres. Now THAT is an E Type I want to see. A beautiful and positively silly creation.
MLP-Hot-Rod Lister used to bore the same V12 out to 7litres on some of their Xjs upgrades, so easily possible on e_type.. I know of one owned by a directors estate that's for sale @£80k.. Puts out approx 565hp with 5spd man box.. I had a 6litre lister manual a few years ago that was dynoed at 427hp at the wheels. Only issue was the gallons per mile consumption!
I don’t need likes, I just wanna spread the message, thank you for reading the text below: Every car has it own soul, it’s own life. To be immortal, they need to be restored. The most beautiful thing is, their soul and body belongs to us. It is our duty to maintain them to their most beautiful and original form, and still can be use for their true excellent purpose; as a car. A car that embrace time and space, should not be forgotten. This is an amazing video, and I feel lucky to witness that beauty of a work.
Personally I think the styling of cars of the 1960s-early 70s (early being important!) was the peak period of automotive beauty, so it is really nice to see these beautiful cars given a delicate and often unseen new lease of life. Mixing that knuckle biting style with modern reliability and road holding manners has to be an irresistable combination. It is no wonder that the well heeled now have so many options in this sector of the market, e.g. Eagle for Jags, Singer for Porsches, Alfaholics for Alfa Romeos, etc. There are companies who also do this sort of thing for early Aston Martin DBs, and even Jensens!
Back in 1970 my Dad rebuilt a series 1 1/2 , even with all its faults I still lust after that car , the sound of the straight six through 1 1/5" copper tail pipes turned grown men to jelly 836 ENW where are you now ?
I'm a fan of restomods like this. Why not have the best of both worlds? I believe that every classic or high performance car should have a completely stock version somewhere in the world (perhaps in a museum) for historical value, but every other model should be allowed to be altered in whichever way the owner desires. That is the point of a personally owned car. It is meant to serve you not the other way around.
I'm a first-time viewer... the video title caught my eye! Enjoyed the driver review...the low-key story of a classic beauty ....the notoriously under-performing E-Type. Once modified,, She regained Her Royal status... and back on my Dream-Car Wishlist!!
, out of all the cars on the planet to choose from, this customized car would be one of the first I would buy along with a hand built singer Porsche 911 . absolutely perfect cars and classics.
Absolutely on the money. Many of these vintage & classic cars were absolute dogs to drive & need to sorted with modern day essentials. I've just done this with a 1931 Ford A Model & turned it from a 1931 plodder into a modern day post vintage classic, still maintaining the original look but capable of doing 100Kph on modern roads.
I have a1973 V12 ROADSTER, the first Jag I bought, with only 23k miles on it. When I take t out I get thumbs up and people let me merge and very curious-and when I park it and come back there is always someone or a few standing by it and looking.
Love driving my S1 E-Type, especially over the Alps. Worth upgrading the brakes though. Prefer mine on original spec tyres for better balance. One of the best cars ever made in my view.
steve gale sorry you are wrong. The original spec Dunlops are available from Longstone tyres. I used to run mine on Avons but have found the Dunlops better. I've had the E type for 19 years now.

Alex...was not the hallmark of this video. Did you notice the car? Did he even mention why it's so different from stock versions?
As has been commented by others, Eagle perform this same service, so that a series 1, 2 or 3 can be upgraded and modernised. As the modifications are bespoke, the extent of the work is up to the customer. I’m guessing E-type UK do the same.
I have a modestly upgraded S2 roadster from Eagle, and took it in a 3000 mile trans- European road trip this summer. It was an epic journey.....
Perfect E-Type would have the V12 with the series 1 front headlights.
And taillights, mostly.... and there is one, Jay Leno had it custom made.
Close, perfect e type would have the s1 lightweight body panels and Dunlop knock offs with the lister stroker v12. With a getrag 6spd. Yes I’ve seen one and it was jaw dropping to drive and hear and look at
Sunyata They are totally standard, factory original, untouched.
I was thinking exactly the same thing, to be honest I would want to put Series 1 front and rear bumpers and make it simply look like a widened Series 1 E-Type. It does look stunning though, brilliant spec.
v12 is slower than the straight 6 man and its too heavey v12? crazy size engine for modern age
This car will always make a comeback again and again!
The E-Type...IMHO by far the most beautiful car ever designed to date.....me likey.
I cannot get over how heart breakingly beautiful this car is. I don't care what it costs. It's absolutely worth it.
crazycardude1984 thank you very much for your kind remarks, they are very much appreciated
I don’t need likes, I just wanna spread the message, thank you for reading the text below:
Every car has it own soul, it’s own life.
It’s the most beautiful E-type I ever seen,, I love it 😍😍
Stunning recreation of an iconic automobile. A proper car for those who 'live' in the 60s life
E-Type UK Please apply this to so many E-types so it actually ends up similar to what Singer Vehicle Design are doing to classic Porsches!
Alex is back! Great!
gotta say the series 3 is my favourite. much better stance, and the chrome trim on the lights and grille look great.
Sideswipe I sooooo agree with you
A timeless classic that just got HOTTER !! :-)
Great video Alex, glad to you see you again in carfection!
This and a Singer 911 are the cars that if you have you really nice taste
They're both beautiful, and tyre technology has evolved a bit. I'm sure it corners better than the orginal.
Can really see where Datsun's got their front end influence from. Beautiful car
Back in 1970 my Dad rebuilt a series 1 1/2 , even with all its faults I still lust after that car , the sound of the straight six through 1 1/5" copper tail pipes turned grown men to jelly
836 ENW where are you now ?
this is my dream car, 20 years ago i found salvage one and left it there :(
Alex you Rock......................... great to hear your voice once again. SPOT ON
I'm a fan of restomods like this.
Totally agree, wish I was rich, as it is, its just a dream.
that E Type is stunning ..best i've ever seen
IF, and that's a big IF, I won the lottery, the very FIRST thing I'll do, it's to buy THAT car.!!!
And also a 3.8L, Series 1.!!!
Enough said.!!!
Copycat ha ha ha !!
My God the most stunning vehicle I have ever seen. This is how cars should be designed even now.
Fine machine!! True blessing from God to have one of these machines!!
The white stripe on the tire with the wire wheels and the ride height makes this car stand out.
"One of thee most iconic" means what???
One of many
Most of which
ICONIC
I'm a first-time viewer... the video title caught my eye!
Enjoyed the driver review...the low-key story of a classic beauty ....the notoriously under-performing E-Type. Once modified,, She regained Her Royal status... and back on my Dream-Car Wishlist!!
Wow! What a car. ...a proper sorted S3 E type...and better to drive than the original
, out of all the cars on the planet to choose from, this customized car would be one of the first I would buy along with a hand built singer Porsche 911 .
absolutely perfect cars and classics.
It actually looks better than the original to me as well. Lowered maybe?
Absolutely on the money. Many of these vintage & classic cars were absolute dogs to drive & need to sorted with modern day essentials. I've just done this with a 1931 Ford A Model & turned it from a 1931 plodder into a modern day post vintage classic, still maintaining the original look but capable of doing 100Kph on modern roads.
myredute I’m in such agreement with you, the car now drives like an absolute dream, thank you for your kind words
@@mvmallinson When you see what some people do with old machinery, it is a pleasure to leave congratulatory comments.
Good to have you back, Alex. Laser surgery or contacts?
I have a1973 V12 ROADSTER, the first Jag I bought, with only 23k miles on it. When I take t out I get thumbs up and people let me merge and very curious-and when I park it and come back there is always someone or a few standing by it and looking.
Excellent presentation.
Fantastic review Xcar!!! What a beautiful machine....
I've had the E type for 19 years now.
steve gale If he's rich enough to own a Ferrari, he's rich enough to own an E-Type.
steve gale "is illegal" you make it sound like they would be criminals if they did produce them after 1981.
I love my f-type, but this looks amazing!
Now thats what you called CAR! Beautiful.
Oh man, I *never* thought of an E-Type restomod! Nice.
OMG those lines are beeeeuuuutiful.
NOW it is the most beautiful car ever made :)
