    Screen obsolete? Software stop working?
That's not how any of that works.
Go turn on a TV or phone from 10years ago... yes, it's fine. It just need an input.
Software may cease to get updated, but it will still perform the functions built into it.
Outdated and obsolete aren't the same.
If the hardware breaks, it breaks, but it's not just gonna stop working because of time. It can be outdated, and connectivity may get discontinued, but the thought of "throwing it away" after 5 years is dumb.
Now the privacy and viability of this product is a different story.

I'd be more worried about replacement costs. A custom made 48" screen for a specific car model is not going to be cheap to replace, especially if it's not just a screen but a module with all sorts of hardware built in. It only takes an unfortunate bump, or even a few unfortunate dead pixels, to require a swap. If you had two smaller screens and physical buttons the cost would be much lower.
Honestly, that could be more expensive to change than the battery.

If it's still running the original software, maybe... but as we've seen with e.g. mobiles, more and more features etc get added over the years as 'free' updates - resulting in first-gen hardware slowing down to the point of being unusable... and not every company provides a way to uninstall those updates, or roll back to an earlier (faster) version, etc.

When foreign brands come to China, the Chinese government only charges a 5% import tax as a WTO member. And yet, when China can make good cars, the foreign nations charge upward of 20% tariffs, in the name of National Security. But what is more annoying is that those same governments do not charge the same amount of tariffs on Japanese and Korean cars.

China tax rates for foreign imported cars:
Custom duty 25%, Sales Tax 0-40% depends on engine size and 13% VAT, despite charging 0% sales tax for PURE electric cars, I believe you still have to pay custom duty and VAT.

One of the main advantages of a screen is that the interface and controls can be expanded and modified over time. The Tesla user interface has had a number of additions and revisions which add features to the car that didn't exist when I bought it! If the dashboard consisted of fixed switches you wouldn't be able to do this. There's therefore less chance of a screen going "out of date" than a traditional dashboard control layout.

This won't be sold for that price in Europe. You cannot take the Chinese market price and just convert it to European prices. You need to add penalty tax, sales tax, transport, type registration and local adjustments to the price and maybe even more stuff. The price will then be more like 40-50K €.

Why would the screen "not work" in a couple of years time..? Provided that the processor is sufficiently advanced to support future versions of the vehicle's OS, then there's no issue. And that is the key, either the chipset has to be future-proofed, or they have to be easily serviceable and upgradeable...surely, it will be easier/cheaper to swap-out a CPU then junk the entire car.

With EVs, it's allllll about the platform and software. And sharing those to create scale to reduce costs or maximise profits depending on your point of view. The car itself is a tad generic apart from the bonkers screen. But the same comment about that could easily be made about the one(s) in the top end Mercedes after all. It's a thing the modern world needs to get to grips with.

To all the people debunking the screen bit: He kind of has a point, in 5-10 years will Geely be making these screens anymore? If this is a one off kind of part for a car, they won't be very available. Imagine if those 3D, curved TVs of 10 years ago were a key component of a car, they don't make them anymore, they can't be replaced. If this screen bakes in the Brisbane/Sydney sun for 5 years is it going to last that long? Heck even the buttons/screens in my Skoda from 9 years ago are extremely expensive to replace with genuine parts. Imagine what this widescreen will be!

There really should be a requirement for all control interfaces in vehicles meant for public roads to be open source, both hardware and software, and ideally compliant with some set of common standards (again, both hardware and software). That's really the only way you can resolve the issue you mention about the control displays going obsolete before the car does.

The longevity of the screen is a worry for me also. I recently upgraded my Mitubishi Outlander PHEV to a used Kia E Niro. My budget allowed for either a Tesla Model 3 OR the E Niro.
My budget isn’t inexhaustible and I tight with my cash. With the Tesla, I worry about the screen, controlling everything, and how much I’d have to pay to replace/repair it. With the Kia, I’ve got physical buttons, so if the screen fops on me - as long as I can still drive the car, I’d probably cheap out and drive it as-is.. I DO like the screen, but I’d not pay big money to replace it.
The Geely is a nice car - I’d love to know the range and stats

As an example, Ford only have 2 EV's with Mach E was a Cell to Pack in a heavily revise C2 platform while Lightning basically a Battery on frame platform.
GM have 9 cars under their Ultium platform but several cars sales just started in 2023. With its issues, we knew they are far away to reach economic of scale.
