REACTION: Taylor Swift's NEW Set on The Eras Tour - The Tortured Poets Department

- Taylor Swift was live in Paris singing her new songs from The Tortured Poets Department on The Eras Tour as I was frantically trying to watch a livestream from the hallways of a college graduation. I caught glimpses of the new set but it wasn't nearly enough to suffice. So, I decided to sit down and watch the whole performance with the attention it deserves. Taylor's set list included "But Daddy I Love Him," "Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me?" "Down Bad," "Fortnight," "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived," and "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart." Plus, a brief little taste of "So High School" from The Anthology. I was left speechless and yet I somehow managed to talk for almost an hour. Make that make sense. Anyway, I hope you enjoy my reaction and random thoughts. :)

Was there a song from TTPD that you were hoping for? I always thought a full skit dedicated to "I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can) would have been ICONIC!
I can't complain though because I got "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" AHHHHHHHH!!!! SCREAMING, CRYING, PERFECT STORMS!!!! The whole set was immaculate!
I really wanted guilty as sin, but I am just so happy that we got what we already have, it’s so amazing

She would definitely add it to the surprise songs soon, if you didn’t watch any I totally recommend watching Peter, loml, and how did it end. Those acoustic performances were so emotional

Well kind of. She started planning to add a new set 8 months ago. Fortnite wasn’t even recorded until October.
11:44 I’m pretty sure but daddy I love him starts out as Joe and then goes on to matty and the end verse is Travis. That’s why she sings the last verse of but daddy I love him and then goes into so high school
I feel like the whole song is a metaphor about her relationship with Matty Healy and speaks to how the fans reacted to it. We get a lot of info from the bridge about people performing soliloquies she'll never see (aka speak up now people). "I forget how the west was won, I forget if this was ever fun" to me seems to reference the idea of how the west was won in the U.S. Westward expansion or manifest destiny is basically religious zealots believing they were destined to spread gods love by forcibly taking native americans over. To me the ending is taylor idealizing her romance like she did in love story by rewriting the ending of romeo and juliette. "No you can't come to the wedding" is her believing she'd marry the bad boy she ran away with. Either way, I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH!!

My take on Fortnight is that it's written from the perspective of her life her and Matty dated for a short time all those years ago and before they got back together. He was still kind of in her periphery (aka neighbors and sometimes they talk about the weather) and she had to sit there and watch as he had at least one relationship that from the outside looked happy (your wife waters flowers). Although they were only together for a short time (a fortnight) she loves him and always wondering what could have been has ruined her life.

Oh I'm sure they added it in once So High School was written, and rehearsed it a ton still but since she said they've been practicing this new set for 8 months, that's right around the time her and Travis were starting out so there may have been a time when it wasn't part of the original set list

And its pretty clear that the end of But Daddy I Love him is about Travis. Thats why she put that in there, with the transition. Its lost on so many people apparently. "Daddy" never loved Matty Healy, like it says in that part of the song. And shes not running with her dress unbuttoned anymore in that part, shes his lady, and you cant come to the wedding. See the difference?
@@eljobo3258 that is actually a very typical writing tactic that Taylor as done since fearless where she basically writes fan fiction of her own relationship. She was creating the happy ending before it happened similar to how she wrote love story and changed the Romeo and Juliette ending
To try to answer your question, in my mind ICDIWABH is clearly about Matty, and Hits Different is about Joe. I think she's just reusing some metaphores, in the same way "so casually cruel" is used both in ATW and some earlier song that I can'r remember the name of right now.
