Just bought the plugin on sale, I love it!!! It's (almost) exactly what I've been looking for! Two huge requests though: first, please add the ability to record audio directly into the software rather than having to import prerecorded samples. Second is please add a speed adjustment for individual tracks.
Really fun to use, and very inspiring, full of surprises. Two things it needs, multi outs, and a PREV/NEXT button for each track to select new samples from the original folder. The Browser is a little clunky, although the drag and drop feature is so helpful!

Also, what size image can I use for cassette cover and are the default image files stored anywhere on PC, ty Flippin' Nora, more edits* Loop FX, in fact a lot more FX in general hence why I/we need Multi-outs.. loving it though :) *ok found the user guide.. images, sorted!
Fascinating instrument. It's just a bit of a shame it doesn't have it's own REC feature to directly record live samples to itself. Somewhat overcome by recording to say Audacity and dropping that sample on one of the tracks but it is an extra step that can interfere with the flow especially when it may require a few takes to get the performance you want. Still, an interesting little tool.
Wow, I'm having a total blast with Portatron. Such a cool and unique instrument. I'd definitely also like a record button. BUT it totally deserves a touch UI. Please create an iPad version. It's so good for performing but the Midi remote control is not enough to develop real muscle memory.
Hard Rock/Industrial producer here.. this is a wonderful instrument. I'd like Multi outs for mixing in Logic. And a dream scenario would be a standalone Portatron with liverecording ability for ambient guitar creations 👽👾 GOOD WORK GUYS ❤
After watching this video I went out and bought Portatron. It's amazing and I am having a lot of fun with it! Being able to use my own samples is greatly appreciated.
Excellent tool... but I think it would be a good thing if it was a program to record and not use it as a vst inside a DAW and maybe expand it to eight tracks. In any case it is very inspiring and congratulations!
Great instrument. My only issue has to do with the dramatic increase in volume that both fx, and the drive, add to the signal. This makes gain staging an issue. I wish there was volume compensation built in.
I like the plugin and see how I could use it...would like to see a few more sound sculpting tools built in like ADSR and envelopes for filters and such, as most samples need a few minor tweaks to mesh up properly. For the reg price, I would seriously consider those kinds of tools.
I understand that Portatron models a 4-track cassette deck, and it's really cool and fun to use in that regard, but as a piece of software it could really do so much more. My #1 request would be to do what nearly all samplers do: let each sample have its own loop, so that each loop can have its own duration. This way I could do Eno-esque "phased loops", which create ever-changing patterns that take a very long time to repeat . It has a huge creative potential, and I know a physical deck couldn't do it, but a plugin could, and therefore, I believe, should :-) I can do that in other plugins, obviously, but I'd like to do it in Portatron, because I do like it a lot.

Can you record into this on the fly by any chance or will you have to manually import wav files into it?

It's a VST3, it won't work with Ableton Live 9. I'm glad I tried the demo first!
