My mistake: It's obviously the Sequential Circuits Prophet VS and not the ''Roland'' prophet VS. I need more sleep loll 😴 Again this is no top 5, every synth deserve love equally lol Did you watch the bloopers at the end? haha 🤣 Should I always add bloopers? haha
I've been studying the industrial scene deeply for the last 3 years, and it's so nice that you're also immersed in it. Thank you so much for the knowledge! Hugs from Russia.
6:25 Testure :) so glad I found your channel recently, I haven't been able to find much on people covering technical stuff about my favorite bands on UA-cam, so this is really good to see!
Love the videos Tonepusher! Also, shout out to "The Usual Suspects" and their synth emulators. So many amazing synths that used that DSP chip, so them being able to use the original hardware synth ROMs make near perfect emulations of all those classic synths. **Yes to bloopers at the end of videos. Bloopers rule.
Haha awesome! Yeah man ''the usual suspects'' are insane! haha looooove that Virus emulation. I had the actual Ti Snow and I can tell you there's no difference at all hehe
99% of what you're talking about I have no idea what you're saying. But I stay because 1) I was 'that kid' in the 90's that was into industrial/NIN. 2) I like how you present your message and you obviously have a love for this music 3) I'm going through a mid life crisis realizing that this music is over THIRTY F--KING YEARS OLD. These bands/records are older than my mom's Meatloaf and Alice Cooper casette tapes were when I first discovered NIN! +1 for 'minimal NIN all digital bedroom studio' ;)
Haha thank you so much man :) Eventho you're not into music production, like you said, I think it's fun to watch because of the ''historical'' part of it too. Music has changed a lot since, especially the gear! hehe And although it looks like a ''bedroom studio'' it's actually a studio rented in an office building which I decorated like a ''bedroom studio'' to feel cozy haha !! 🤘 thanks a lot for the support !! much appreciated 🙏
back in the day we used the JP-8080 for 90% of our synth sounds (virtual analog is amazing for creating, and the effects on that unit are very tweakable), and today I use it quite a bit still. The only draw back are the presets where they layer the crap out of everything and make them unmixable in tracks with a guitar. great content as always
Two I know of, both from Kawai: the K4/K4r and the XD5. The K4 is capable of some gritty, nasty digital racket, but the XD5 is the big win. Every sort of percussive sound it can make (as it's their drum sound module) has this edge to it...gritty (it is related to the K4r, after all), metallic, VERY digital. If you like dystopian, percussion-heavy industrial, it's a must-have.
I love the K4 and it also has a funky drum section with grungy samples. I used to sync the k4 to drums on my w30 and see what I could get. It was usually nasty and bizarre.😂😂
@@TonepusherI think you are thinking of the Korg x5D. They are referring to the Kawai XD5, which is a “drum” rack unit built on the same architecture as the Kawai K4 and K4R synth. It’s a wild drum synth capable of all sorts of bizarre sounds. Highly recommended. I’ll definitely never sell mine.
Ozzy using the ARP xD "I forgot how to use the fukking thing", that's what I say everytime I open the damn VST. Apparently, Pogo used the JP8000 a lot too in the late 90s. Awesome video anyway!
Amazing! thanks a lot your content is gold! there´s an inmense lack of information in UA-cam about EBM and Industrial and any commercial tutorials. Just a suggestion, it could be cool some explaining the most usual scales used.
Thanks man! you're right, there's a HUGE lack of information about industrial music online. I feel like it's one of the most creative music genre ever. I don't know everything obviously, but I'll share what I know the best as I can :)
I had many of these synths back in the days : Waldorf XT,( I got Xenia beta now) MW1, JP-8080, Nord lead 2, still have ESQ1 and virus ti but never knew they have been heavily used in industrial and ebm music except maybe a few.
Yeah the kurz 2500 was used lots on TDS, specially for the wave shaping, and the Vsynth is a major part of skinny puppy’s sound, and one of the few old synths they still use at the heart of the setup
I think the Sequential Pro-3 is a modern worthy addition. Very gritty. Wavetable 3rd Oscillator, and overdrive available at almost every step in the signal chain.
If you are dawless, the Behringer ProVS mini and JT4000, clones of the Prophet VS and JP8000 respectively can both be purchased for under $150. Small, but having owned both of the originals, they are definitely close to the original sound.
Awesome video! JP8000 /8080 is so damn good, would love to get an actual 8080 some day but prices are so crazy for them. It's a shame Roland never made their own VST of it like they did with everything else they made, but there are plenty of supersaw options now thankfully. SH-201 was it's hardware successor (then the two Gaias) and also used by quite a few industrial bands but has a bad reputation - unfairly so IMO.
Gracias me gustaría que hagas algo de Madonna Wayne gacy especialmente los discos antichist superstar y mechanicals animals y también me gustaría que hablaras de las bandas orgy y deadsy
I have a question for you (and maybe a future video...) what guitar is mostly used for metal indus and what effect will do the job, I am talking only about pedals, no emulation on computer. Also I have read that I need active guitar microphones, is it true or I can achieve that sharp sound (Rammstein and Ministry) with passive microphones on my guitar? What would be a cheap setup that will get me "THE" sound I am looking for please? Does the boss ML2 will do the job, or I need something else? Some people are talking about a Zoom GX1? Do you agree? I am very curious about getting your advices... All the best, please keep the good work going.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
@1:33 Waldorf just released the Microwave 1 plugin, their software version of the Microwave XT. I'm guessing maybe you filmed this before the plugin came out?
Is it a vst of xt or mw1? I assumed it was the latter?... There appears to be differences between the two versions of the hardware, xt was based upon mw2 afaik.
@@Tonepusher no probs, great video and some brilliant research into musicians using it thanks, your videos are more informative and fun than equipboard! mw1 waldorf plugin looks pretty good for what it is, the devs did a really in depth show and tell going over how they meticulously worked on it.

Of course you chose a version of Kinda I Want To in which the synth was inaudible lol

Sequential’s final synth until Dave Smith resurrected the brand and got the name back.
