  • Hope this helps at least one person because I was searching for while but couldn’t find any videos or instructions on this specific repair. The rear window was crooked and did not shut completely. The previous owner has taped the window shut and rigged some hangers inside the tailgate to keep the window from falling which rendered the tailgate useless.
    This is how I replaced the tailgate window track channels. I don’t know if this was the correct way to do it but it seemed to work for me.

    I think you put the brackets on backwards. The one with the extra slot should be on the left. At least that's how the one I was fixing was, it had a little plastic bracket that goes into the hole and has the excess wire from the heating elements attached to the plastic so they stay out of the way.

    Hey what’s the part number for the rubber inside de Chanel

    You actually have to tap them on with a rubber mallet. Don’t use any lubricant as they’re not meant to be installed that way and will only create a weak bond if you do end up getting it on since lubricants don’t dry. Tapping them on will not break the glass

      Tap the brackets on?? But how do you get them on the control arms?

    Did you have to bolt anything up? Or u just put the black rubber and slide the metal sliders in the black rubber? Or is there anything u need to screw down after

    Was it the drivers side bracket that was rusted? I have the exact same truck, same year and even white...amazed to find this video considering the unlikely coincidence. Drivers side bracket was rusted to pieces. I can't believe glass did not break, as window was rolled down only on one side and glass came out of both slots. I had to fight with it for hours to get glass into slots so glass could finally be removed. Also found ebay replacements..from Japan I believe.
    I need a front and rear OEM bumper if anyone has one for sale. 1995 4runner(if limited style bumper will fit I would prefer that multi piece bumper as replacement.)

      Yup my driver side bracket was all but dust! Glad you were able to fix yours. As far as bumpers go I have seen some aftermarket OE front bumpers but they are quite pricey. I would check your local junkyard from 92-95 are all the same bumper.

    hey, i saw the video and just want to say thank you so so much. Also, did not putting clipping in the metal bit all the way cause any problems later on. Im concerned that it might for me.

      Hey there! Sorry for the really late response I haven’t been active on the channel. Firstly I’m glad you found the video helpful and secondly, no I had not had any issues with the window since the repair. I would suggest maybe lubing the channels every so often if you live in a place with extreme weather though

    So the tracks were rusted/wollered out and thats what was causing it to go up/down crooked? Thats the issue mine is having , and it takes forever to get it straight and back up alone lol

    Good video, but did not show the difficult part, install the metal channel with the rubber to the glass.

    Any tips on the rear window heater/defroster?

    • @j1mbOZ31
      @j1mbOZ31  Рік тому

      Hey! Sorry for the late response. from what I know, window defrosters are just giant heating elements and if there is any scratch or knick in the lines it could cause them not to operate. If it isn’t working at all I would do some basic electric diagnostics of the defroster circuit starting with fuses then voltage check the the connections at the rear window and finally and most likely a ohm test of the lines on the window, over time those get scraped and damaged opening the circuit not allowing the lines to heat up. They sell repair kits for that.

    Do you know how I can remove the window completely?

    • @j1mbOZ31
      @j1mbOZ31  3 роки тому

      Yea basically you need to do the opposite of what I’m doing in the video haha you have to remove the tracks and window should pull completely out of the tail gate

    So how the heck did you get the old rubber off the glass? Mine seems to be glued or something

      I believe I ended up scrapping it off with a razor scraper and WD-40, it was a pain in the butt haha

      I think about half ways like in the video. You kind of have to play and adjust to what works best for you and your hands honestly haha

    How’d you get the track channels on? The metal and rubber on the base of the window?

      I have the same question. It is impossible with the glass out I can't imagine how he did it.

      @@jroldan123yt it took me 3ish days of trial and error and muscle 🤣honestly shocked I didn’t break the window. My dad helped with some of the muscle. We tried soap and water. We tried oil to lubricate the glass/rubber. Think the best bet for me was going with the old rubber pieces that I pulled the old metal off of. It fit much better than the new rubber. Tried a mallet and ended up standing the glass n the lawn and using our body weights to slowly finagle it on. Honestly took more time than guessing how to place the gears to get the window aligned right. That was a lucky two tries. The metal glass and rubber took a few days of attempts
