2nd gen 4Runner cigarette lighter not working?
Just wanted to put up a quick vid of a issue I’ve been chasing and finally had time to fix. If your cigarette lighter isn’t working and you’ve checked all the fuses and wiring and you’re still scratching your head then hopefully this saves you some time!
The whole cigarette lighter receptacle needs to be replaced. there is a little fusible link on the back Side that burns out when shorted out. Mine was broken when I got the car. Unfortunately I didn’t record how I got it out but let me warn you it’s a pain in the butt! As you can see a lot of the panels must be removed in order to take out the center dash panel so be careful when pulling them out you might crack or break a panel.

2nd gen 4Runner tailgate window fix
Переглядів 14 тис.3 роки тому
Hope this helps at least one person because I was searching for while but couldn’t find any videos or instructions on this specific repair. The rear window was crooked and did not shut completely. The previous owner has taped the window shut and rigged some hangers inside the tailgate to keep the window from falling which rendered the tailgate useless. This is how I replaced the tailgate window...
1995 Toyota 4Runner idler arm and steering stabilizer shock replacement

Hey there! First real video, it’s not quite a tutorial just sort of a quick run down of what I did to replace these parts. Hopefully it’s helpful It’s you’re having clunking noises or the vehicle is wandering and weaving I would highly suggest checking the steering arms and suspension for worn out parts. Also! On these 2nd gen runners there is a steering gear box that you can adjust for play in...

    Did you have to bolt anything up? Or u just put the black rubber and slide the metal sliders in the black rubber? Or is there anything u need to screw down after

    You actually have to tap them on with a rubber mallet. Don’t use any lubricant as they’re not meant to be installed that way and will only create a weak bond if you do end up getting it on since lubricants don’t dry. Tapping them on will not break the glass

      @@jroldan123yt it took me 3ish days of trial and error and muscle 🤣honestly shocked I didn’t break the window. My dad helped with some of the muscle. We tried soap and water. We tried oil to lubricate the glass/rubber. Think the best bet for me was going with the old rubber pieces that I pulled the old metal off of. It fit much better than the new rubber. Tried a mallet and ended up standing the glass n the lawn and using our body weights to slowly finagle it on. Honestly took more time than guessing how to place the gears to get the window aligned right. That was a lucky two tries. The metal glass and rubber took a few days of attempts

    But where are the fuses for it? I cannot find any fuses on my 4runner anywhere but on the engine compartment but there’s only like 6 fuses

      The fusible wire one the back is the fuse essentially

  • @MrClean15
    @MrClean15 Рік тому

    I think you put the brackets on backwards. The one with the extra slot should be on the left. At least that's how the one I was fixing was, it had a little plastic bracket that goes into the hole and has the excess wire from the heating elements attached to the plastic so they stay out of the way.

      The one I replaced it with was cheaper and didn’t have the extra cover the original one had to protect the rod I didn’t think it was a big deal because I have the factory skid plate to protect all that stuff anyway

    Was it the drivers side bracket that was rusted? I have the exact same truck, same year and even white...amazed to find this video considering the unlikely coincidence. Drivers side bracket was rusted to pieces. I can't believe glass did not break, as window was rolled down only on one side and glass came out of both slots. I had to fight with it for hours to get glass into slots so glass could finally be removed. Also found ebay replacements..from Japan I believe. I need a front and rear OEM bumper if anyone has one for sale. 1995 4runner(if limited style bumper will fit I would prefer that multi piece bumper as replacement.)

    • @j1mbOZ31
      @j1mbOZ31 2 роки тому

      Yup my driver side bracket was all but dust! Glad you were able to fix yours. As far as bumpers go I have seen some aftermarket OE front bumpers but they are quite pricey. I would check your local junkyard from 92-95 are all the same bumper.

    Any tips on the rear window heater/defroster?

    • @j1mbOZ31
      @j1mbOZ31 Рік тому

      Hey! Sorry for the late response. from what I know, window defrosters are just giant heating elements and if there is any scratch or knick in the lines it could cause them not to operate. If it isn’t working at all I would do some basic electric diagnostics of the defroster circuit starting with fuses then voltage check the the connections at the rear window and finally and most likely a ohm test of the lines on the window, over time those get scraped and damaged opening the circuit not allowing the lines to heat up. They sell repair kits for that.
