I find it a little to funny that we go from Archie's version of Robotnik being the typical kids show bad guy. To Robo-Robotnik/Eggman whos just like, "Yes, I'm gonna use the Roboticizer to Nuke every technologically advanced civilization on the planet instantaneously. What ya gonna do about it?". Like, DAMN, Eggman would make PALPATINE look good.
I mean, Palpatine allowed the destruction of Alderaan, an entire planet, in Episode IV, without a care in the world. That's not just the sentient civilizations, it's all life and nowhere for it to sprout again. And in the sequels (as much as I hate to mention them), he orchestrated behind the shadows in Episode VII the destruction of several planets from a distance.

So at that point it was easier to just axe *everyone's* original characters, even those of the returning creatives like Flynn, Stanley, Baker, etc.

The majority of his actions post issue 200, Knothole being destroyed, Dark Egg Legion, blowing up Antoine and leaving him in a coma, Mecha Sally, abd nuking his old home and coming to the Prime universe all because he got bored with victory over his Sonic and wanted to fill the power vacuum? It's all lost to the void. New 252 Eggman has an empire, but it's far lesser than Robo-Robotnik Eggman's, and nowhere near the grip he had on the world... Archie Eggman was truly something that could not be replicated...

the genesis wave was the worst and most epic thing that happened ins onci canon after hyper sonic. that shit literally erased infinite universes in its multiverse, the muktiples universes (zones) were gone, scourge? gone? good metal sonic? gone! I said it before, but Archie Eggman actually won in the previous timeline. With the roboticization of Sally, it was the beginning of the end. He was able to destroy the world to the point that it couldn't recover that even hundreds of years into the future, everything is still devastated. Silver going back in time to fix that was the only way to undo that future.

This was Eggman at his most horrifying and god do i miss it. I miss the Archie Sonic verse so much. Such a shame it was cut short like it was. Decades of build up, hustory and characters all wiped out.

Wow, Archie Eggman is far worse than Homelander. I'm surprised that no one decides to end him for good, I know he's important because he's the main villain in the sonic franchise but he has gone too far. He's a completely different character to the point that he's not even Eggman but a devil wedding the skin of him.
One of the things skipped here is the SatAM version's fate when he is temporarily brought back. The Freedom Fighters reprogram MKII Eggman's device to destabilize and send back into not existing again the SatAM version. One certainly had payback gotten on him as one last plan blows up in his face for defeat before getting erased. The Super Genesis Wave finishing off the Legacy of the Doctors being the final insult on their street cred.
well it was considered, but sonic couldn't bring himself to do it personnaly, and at the time knothole was run by an infighting bearuacracy that couldn't agree and made the insane decision to make Ixis Naugus, a literal evil wizard, king, so yeah they aren't great at deciding things. for the most part most of the cast are good people who don't want to do anything remotely similar to Eggman and so cannot bring themselves to outright murder if they can avoid it. and also when they captured him and defeated him seemingly for good, he was rendered harmless by his insanity so noone could quite bring up the nerve to hurt him because he wasn't even MALICIOUS anymore. then he reasoned himself sane and escaped.

My favorite interpretation of the difference between the names "Robotnik" and "Eggman" is that Robotnik is his official name, and the one he uses for his more legal businesses. Where as Eggman is the pseudonym he uses for his criminal empires and illegal businesses. "The Eggman" being more like a nickname you would refer to the mob boss as.
Even in the original Japanese instruction manual for the first Sonic game, it clearly stated that his real name was Robotnik and that 'Eggman' was a nickname everyone called him. Just like how 'Sonic' isn't even his real name.

I get that of course they aren’t going to kill off Eggman a second time since you know Sega needed to sell more comics and I know he’s basically exactly like his game counterpart post reboot but pre reboot? In universe How did nobody decide or attempt to execute Eggman? Not that I am much into the series, much lesst he comics, but what I overheard from the reboot is that the realtionships were also toned down, which sounds like a bummer to me. I know the series, it's fans and even creators are... questionable, but it can still be a series with harmless and wholesome moments. I mainly mean Sonic and Sally. It's just like with Shadow and Maria. Just let them have their stupid good ending already. All these sorry excuse about "getting over it", new timeline and opening endings just stink. For me, the stories can get as crazy and dire as they want, so long as the disasters get fixed after all and the characters do their romantic shenanigans. Without it, it's not a good ending.

and now, with idw we basically have to accept that sally, freddom fighters and a lot of secondary characters as old as the franchise itself are not coming bakc, they are erased since they dont exist in the games (that the idw continuity is located)

I said it before, but Archie Eggman actually won in the previous timeline. With the roboticization of Sally, it was the beginning of the end. He was able to destroy the world to the point that it couldn't recover that even hundreds of years into the future, everything is still devastated. Silver going back in time to fix that was the only way to undo that future.

I used to pick up these comics at the grocery whenever growing up but as time went on half the stores stopped carrying them so I got bits and pieces. Holy cow that was a way to fill in the gaps

Wow, Archie Eggman is far worse than Homelander. I'm surprised that no one decides to end him for good, I know he's important because he's the main villain in the sonic franchise but he has gone too far. He's a completely different character to the point that he's not even Eggman but a devil wedding the skin of him.

One certainly had payback gotten on him as one last plan blows up in his face for defeat before getting erased. The Super Genesis Wave finishing off the Legacy of the Doctors being the final insult on their street cred.

well it was considered, but sonic couldn't bring himself to do it personnaly, and at the time knothole was run by an infighting bearuacracy that couldn't agree and made the insane decision to make Ixis Naugus, a literal evil wizard, king, so yeah they aren't great at deciding things.
for the most part most of the cast are good people who don't want to do anything remotely similar to Eggman and so cannot bring themselves to outright murder if they can avoid it.
and also when they captured him and defeated him seemingly for good, he was rendered harmless by his insanity so noone could quite bring up the nerve to hurt him because he wasn't even MALICIOUS anymore.

My favorite interpretation of the difference between the names "Robotnik" and "Eggman" is that Robotnik is his official name, and the one he uses for his more legal businesses. Where as Eggman is the pseudonym he uses for his criminal empires and illegal businesses. "The Eggman" being more like a nickname you would refer to the mob boss as.
Even in the original Japanese instruction manual for the first Sonic game, it clearly stated that his real name was Robotnik and that 'Eggman' was a nickname everyone called him. Just like how 'Sonic' isn't even his real name.

In the comics Robotnic (Eggman) met Dr. Wily and the two tried to become Gods and did several nefarious acts like turning all of Sonic’s friends into The Robotized Masters and pitting Mega Man and Sonic against one another. It was wild.
I get that of course they aren’t going to kill off Eggman a second time since you know Sega needed to sell more comics and I know he’s basically exactly like his game counterpart post reboot but pre reboot? In universe How did nobody decide or attempt to execute Eggman? Cause pre reboot Eggman was beyond just a menace like I get it’s not in Sonic’s (well actually Archie Sonic had killed a few people from what I heard) but considering he teams up with Wily twice and causes the Genesis Wave which permanently erases not only a good majority of the cast’s family members (well some of them still remain post reboot but they are no longer related by blood) but also screwed over a lot of people
Like when they had him in a straight jacket they should have executed him. Like sparing him led to Multiversal genocide and Im sure Sonic and the Freedom Fighters would be blamed if say a random character who not only survived a character but remembered the old world found out. Actually that could be an interesting story have a character who existed during the Pre genesis wave continuity remember the pre reboot world and realize that their changed life and erased loved ones are technically Sonic and the Freedom Fighters fault. If a story liked that happened I wonder how Sonic and other characters would try to defend themselves? Like is that situation even defendable?
Unfortunately the Genesis Wave was actually indirectly caused by Ken Penders... Eggman is not liable for the crime because it was a result of the former author disputing the comic's ownership.
Maybe they were afraid he had some plan to destroy everything if he's dead like the previous one? Also maybe they thought he could be needed to deal with bigger threats, there were still 2 powerful alien species fighting each other nearby and a lot of other stuff after all.
at least he never committed the worst crime of all; stealing 40 cakes while noone is looking

Not that I am much into the series, much lesst he comics, but what I overheard from the reboot is that the realtionships were also toned down, which sounds like a bummer to me.
I know the series, it's fans and even creators are... questionable, but it can still be a series with harmless and wholesome moments. I mainly mean Sonic and Sally.
It's just like with Shadow and Maria. Just let them have their stupid good ending already. All these sorry excuse about "getting over it", new timeline and opening endings just stink.
For me, the stories can get as crazy and dire as they want, so long as the disasters get fixed after all and the characters do their romantic shenanigans. Without it, it's not a good ending.
